    Todays National Parks serve more

    purposes and provide greater benefits

than when first envisioned over a

    century ago.

Yet they also face threats to their

survival not imagined in the beginning,

and change must be undertaken toensure their relevance in the 21st

    century.

    The NPS leadership has developed

a Call to Action Plan that expands

the role of the NPS beyond traditionalboundaries and actively engaging

communities. JON JARVIS, DIRECTORNATIONAL PARK SERVICE
