Through the Virginia Department of Emergency Management, members of the Virginia Beach

Fire Department responded to a request to assist Howard County Government (Maryland) with

managing the areas affected by severe flooding from recent storms. For seven days, District

Chief James Ramsey, Battalion Chiefs Bill Skelaney and Steve Lesinski, who are also

members of the Hampton Roads Incident Management Team, assisted with managing search

and rescue operations, assessing damage for cost recovery, and coordinating safety measures

within the historic district of Ellicott City so volunteers, shop owners, occupants and contractors

could begin restoration efforts.

This past week, the Sandler Center for Performing Arts hosted The Ability Center of

Virginia’s Summer Camp for the second year in a row. This year, 26 campers participated,

culminating in a performance the campers had been rehearsing throughout the week. The Ability

Center of Virginia serves children and adults with disabilities in our community. This art camp in

particular is geared toward teens and young adults.

Dear Mayor Sessoms and Council,

P.O. BOX 6098 VIRGINIA BEACH, VIRGINIA 23456-9073

FAX (757) 427-5037

The Virginia Beach Sheriff's Office and I had the pleasure of having City Manager Dave Hansen

as the commencement speaker for our 38th Basic Academy graduation yesterday, Thursday,

Aug. 11, 2016. Mr. Hansen delivered an inspiring and heartfelt message that was, in short, one

of the best we've had in recent times. Not only did he assure my deputies and me that we have

the full support of our City Manager, he also reinforced the value he places in our work to every

deputy, civilian, friend and family member in the audience. That kind of reinforcement is

invaluable, especially at a time when law enforcement now more than ever needs to know that

we have our leaders' support.

Since his first day in office, Mr. Hansen has been a friend to the Sheriff's Office. I cannot

imagine anyone better to fill the job of Virginia Beach City Manager and to continue to do what

is necessary to ensure we remain the safest city of our size.

I for one am glad to have a friend in that office and I hope he will continue to receive your

support.

Sincerely,

Ken Stolle

Virginia Beach Sheriff/High Constable
