From the pastor… ARE YOU CURSED? “Thus says the Lord: Cursed it the one who trusts in human beings, who seeks his strength in flesh, whose heart turns away from the Lord.” (Jeremiah 17:5) We remember the song – put your hands in the hand of the one (Jesus) who stilled the water, …who calmed the sea. But, to whom can we confide in this world? What is the etymology of the word “confide”? “Con fide” = “with faith”. Confide in God & those who exhibit genuine faith in God. Next Sunday’s Word - 1Samuel 26: 2, 7-9, 12-13, 22-23; 1Corinthians 15: 45-49; Luke 6:27-38. Administrative Assistant/Part-time Church Secretary needed – 8:30 a.m. – 1 p.m. Monday through Friday. This position requires a dependable individual with people skills; proficient in computer skills (including experience with Excel), and bookkeeping; conversational Spanish would be helpful but not required. Send your résumé with your employment history and recommendations to: Search Committee, C/O Rev. Thomas J. Kessler, P.O. Box 509, Statesville, North Carolina 28687 or on-line – [email protected] Knights of Columbus Spaghetti Dinner – from 3 – 6 p.m., Sunday, February 17, in our Social Hall or “Take Out”. A Liturgy Committee Meeting – will be held this Thursday, February 21 at 7 p.m. The liturgy is the most important event of our parish activ-ities. Committee Members - Please be present. We Need Prayer Warriors for our Par ish Prayer Tree! “Never cease praying” (1Thessalonians 5:17) – thus we have been praying for the needs of our parishioners, families and friends. You can enter your intentions & needs in the notebook to the left, at the entrance of the church. We are grateful to God for so many blessings received and shared. We need more Prayer Warriors – all that is required is that you are a registered member of St. Philip’s Parish and are willing to pray for the intentions on the Prayer Tree. E-mails with the requests are sent on a regular basis. There is no set way to pray – let the Holy Spirit guide you. If you can help us – please send Jean Danckert an e-mail with your name and e-mail address to [email protected]. Thank you Our Daily Bread delivery Program – is in need of a volunteer driver to deliver “day old bread”, etc. every-other Saturday, 9 a.m. from Publix Grocery Store to 5th Street Ministries Shelter here in Statesville. While this is an important corporal work of mercy, it is not difficult work nor time consuming. A passenger car provides ample room for the boxes. We need someone to begin this mission of charity on Satur-day, March 2nd. Please contact Joyce Marquez at 704-657-3440. FORWARD WITH CHRIST – Social Hall construction update – The construction trailer for our building project was suppose to be delivered on Tuesday, February 12th. Site work is supposed to be done this week (2/17). The transformer is to be relocated the following week followed by the demolition of the old rectory. Safety fences will be installed and there will be necessary changes with the parking arrangements. I beg you to please be careful and patient. A TEMPORARY INCONVEN-IENCE FOR A PERMANENT IMPROVEMENT. Thank you. Last weekend we kicked off the annual Diocesan Support Appeal. “We Are His Hands”. Our assessment and goal for this year is $46,753. Parishioners should complete the pledge card and return it to the Diocesan Office and deposit it in any collection basket at Mass. You may also make pledges or gifts using the cards on the tables at the entrance/exit of the church. Finally you can also make pledges online at www.charlottediocese.org/dsa. Please be sure to indicate the name of our parish in the comments section of the online form or in the bottom left hand corner of the check. Thank you so much. To date we have received -$1,763.13 in donations and pledges.
