New Year’s Resolutions Suggestions… Deep Thoughts by Chris Hollar

1. Spend time with your family (even if you do not

like some of your family). 2. Play board games and card games with humans

and not on a screen. 3. Spend time in nature (easier to make your way

through the woods without all the leaves and almost ZERO bugs in the dead of winter).

4. Be grateful for the joys in your life. 5. Learn from the sorrows in your life. 6. Spend time with animals you are not allergic too. 7. Make a snow angel in the winter and a sand

angel in the summer. 8. Enjoy the little things

(indoor plumbing rather than an out house).

9. Pick up a hobby that requires no money (climbing trees, watching the clouds, picking rocks).

10. Be kinder to yourself (if your winter cloths no longer fit go to Good Will and get new clothes).

11. Pick one resolution per year, the odds are better to succeed.

Clark County 4-H Leaders Federation Minutes December 10, 2018 at ADS

Board Members Present: Amy Gerhardt, Jennie Whitmire, John Brost, Courtney Schoessow, Joan Buchholz, Sam Jacque, Kyle Johnson, Nicolas Stiemann, Susan Stiemann, and Chris Hollar Board Members Absent: Bridget Canfield, Kathy Meyers, Dakota Gorton, and Bryana Meyers Visitors: Annette Haase, Willow Haase, and Kent Johnson Amy Gerhardt called the meeting to order at 6:59 p.m. Pledges to the American and 4-H flags were said. Secretary’s Report: The secretary’s minutes for the November 12, 2018 meeting were reviewed. Courtney Schoessow moved to approve. Motion seconded by John Brost and carried. Financial Report:

Joan Buchholz reviewed the financial report. The ending balance as of 12/8/18 was $52,534.81 which includes $11,823.28 of self-supporting project balances. No corrections were noted. Nicolas Stiemann moved to approve. Sam Jacques seconded, and the motion carried.

Kyle Johnson presented request for funding of bus to the state fair on behalf of the Maplewood Badgers. Courtney Schoessow moved that the Leaders Federation reimburse Maplewood Badgers for $632.50 or one half the cost of the bus. Motion seconded by Sam Jacques and carried.

There are 850-900 2016 plat books remaining. John Brost moved to reduce the sale price of those books to $15 in an effort to increase sales before working on a new plat book for 2020. Courtney Schoessow seconded the motion. It carried.

Discussion was held regarding raising funds for the fairgrounds building project. Clubs will be encouraged at the January all leaders meeting to consider making a financial donation. We will also pursue plans for fundraising efforts at the fair, which might include raffle baskets, “rounding up” of food stand purchases, bouncy house, etc.

Susan Stiemann moved to sponsor the Kids Rodeo up to $3000. Jennie Whitmire seconded, and the motion carried. Old Business:

Chris Hollar reported that seven teams have signed up for the Bowling Tournament.

Bruce Mound has been reserved for a four-hour evening on February 9. Trempealeau County has suggested that we work together to have a potluck. Following discussion, board members agreed that we will plan to serve hotdogs, pickles, chips, and hot chocolate again this year, but not pursue holding a potluck.

The Herdsmanship judging forms for the fair have been revised to reflect which days each particular animal show is being held. Herdsmanship will not be judged for those animal exhibits during their show. Each club will be asked to carry out judging and submit the judging forms for all exhibits.

Chris Hollar noted that she has put together two binders containing record book forms that she will bring to 4-H events. These forms are for members to remove and take as needed for their record books.

Discussion was held regarding the possibility of purchasing portable bleachers for the dining hall and fine arts building to be used for seating during judging at the fair.

New Business:

Loyal Lads & Lassies is donating dairy products to the local food pantry. They have suggested challenging other 4-H clubs to do the same. More information will be coming regarding this challenge.

Chris Hollar will get quotes for a Wisconsin Hall O Fame plaque to be displayed at the Clark County Fair.

The Permanent Record Pages for record books have been revised to allow for members to receive a point for any project in which they have exhibited work at the fair and completed a record book page. In the past this has been limited to only four points.

The Leaders Federation Executive Board Retreat is scheduled for Saturday, January 12, at Sunset Pines from 9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.

Sam Jacques presented an idea for creating 4-H promotional face-in-hole boards at the fair for each of the animal barns. Sam will follow up with getting this plan rolling.

Committee Reports: Chris Hollar noted the Dairy Junior/Open Shows will remain the same at the Clark County Fair. Amy Gerhardt reported that the In State Trip will be tentatively in the Apostle Island/Bayfield area. They have room for more participants. Discovery Day is scheduled for December 27. There is a need for more volunteers. Kyle Johnson moved to adjourn the meeting. The motion was seconded by Jennie Whitmire and carried. Meeting adjourned at 8:21 p.m. The next board meeting will be held on January 14, 2018, 7:00 p.m., Loyal City Hall. It will be an all leaders’ meeting with a coaches meeting to be held before it at 6:00 p.m. Respectfully submitted, Susan Stiemann, Secretary
