The Focus of the Committee

• What we focused on the most was Reducing Child Mortality.

– Raising the awareness of the general public starting from our generations about child mortality and emphasis the importance of the issues.

– Being support for the children who are in need (financially&emotionally)

– Helping the children by providing them shelter, food and clothing.

– Providing donation to the children shelters ( Child Haven1Organization) & NGO’s

Target Groups:

• a) High school Students

• b) Primary school Students

• c) Kindergarten

Expectancy:

– Rise awareness of the public,

– Being able to help at least a small amount of people

– Being an emotional support to children and having an influence on them

Procedure:

• In order to achieve these expectancies:

• What Enka Schools have done:

• Raised awareness by making posters in our school

• Contacted Doç. Dr.Gülnur Tokuç to get information about this issue

• Contacted the principal of Kazım Karabekir Middle School and talked to him about giving seminars in the school

What Koç School have done:

• During mid-April 2007, as a group consisting of 16 students they went to east of Turkey to help the local children

• For five days, they helped them restoring their schools and houses

• Helped by donating food and clothing

What Enka Adapazarı have done:

• Helped restoring a primary school and kindergarten.

• Building a library

• Textile cooperative

What Billings Middle School have done:

• Donation of clothing to Child Haven with money they got a via fund raiser

• Went to Guetemala and helped orphan children

• Went to New Orleans to help with the damage of hurricane Katrina by help building houses

• Taught disabled children horseback riding

What HEV High School have done:

• Connected with NGO’s

• Connected with a target school that was in need

• Seperated to groups and gave lessons

• Held fund raisers and we increased our budget from this activity

The Areas That Were Not Fulfilled:

• The things that we couldn’t achieve throughout the action plan were;

• We couldn’t give seminars to children because we were having a hard time getting permission.

• Collecting and donating money as much as we wanted.

Problems That Appeared:

• Some NGO’s were reluctant to work with a group of students (we had negative responses to our communication attempts).

• Difficulty in finding NGO’s just about Child Mortality (mainly NGO’s were dealing with the problem in the second hand, next to their main topic).

• NGO’s were responding the e-mails in a long period of time.

Problems That Appeared:

• The difficulty in finding and contact sponsors who were willing to support the topic.

• Some NGO’s were reluctant to work with a group of students (we had negative responses to our communication attempts).

• In trying to organize charity events, it was demanding to get a permission to organize.

Reasons of the Problem:

• People were not really aware of the problem, they were disinclined to support our Action Plan

• The demanding process of getting permission from the education ministry, schools

What We Should Have Done:

a) The Permission Process:

• Participants can prepare presentation to the school board or petitions to the ministry of education in order to convince them to give permission

b) Advertising the Action Plan

• Participant should make people aware of the fund raisers and charity events. In order to capture the attention of the public and make our voice heard, more advertisement should be established.
