Concepts

Initial Concepts: From starting with an initial brief, creating the first ideas through to developing the complete concept we work with you and your team to create the right environment that strengthens your brand and drives sales. We have the skills in-house to sketch and model our ideas to show you how your new stores will look and feel. Concept Development: Working with your existing supply chain or suppliers, or with our supply partners, we are able to take initial ideas and transform them into fully developed stores. The benefit to our clients is that we are able to deliver the whole package from developing bespoke joinery and shop fitting through to entire store layouts and national store rollouts. For Boots the Chemist we have developed numerous concepts from individual shop fittings to complete store concepts tailored to specific markets or locations. Initial Concept Sketch - Hobbs

Store Roll Out

Good management and efficient processes are fundamental to the delivery of a national store roll out. Our retail team has fine-tuned their working practices to our clients and in turn provide an exemplary service to deliver rapid responses whilst adding value throughout the design and delivery process. For Boots, our experience of delivering circa 350 stores has enabled us to streamline our processes in order to reduce the time from conception to store opening by a matter of weeks and we have key relationships with contractors in place to ensure this is achieved. We value the long standing relationships we have developed with our clients. We have worked with Vision Express for more than 14 years and delivered 3 new concepts as well as more than 200 stores across the UK, Ireland and now the Middle East.

Store Roll Out

No two stores are the same and we work hard for our clients to achieve the best possible outcome. We have worked within listed buildings, conservation areas, modern shopping centres and airports, often to strict parameters, and we always take our client’s concept and adapt it to the particular building whilst ensuring the core brand is never compromised. Nike’s new Flagship store in a Grade B building in Glasgow provided challenges to a concept originally developed for a shopping mall store – delivering a store that the Council approved of as well as providing a unique design of ‘Flagship quality’ – visited by Nike’s Head of Retail based in the USA. We also designed and delivered 2 stores in 4 weeks for Aston Villa Football Club along with Nike’s supply chain to coincide with the launch of a new kit.

Interior & Furniture Design

Our interiors experience spans across all sectors; it’s this flexibility that allows us to look at internal spaces with a discerning eye and harnessing this knowledge to deliver design solutions. We design innovative and cost effective furniture and shopfitting solutions for our clients, this allows the for each and every detail to be carefully managed and one point of communication with our supply chain, this worked extremely well for stores such as 1948 London for Nike and Hobbs (pictured above centre & right) both finalists in design awards.

Retail Design Management

Having extensive experience of delivering national rollouts for major brands, such as Boots, Wilkinson and Vision Express, we know how vital it is to ensure that Brand Standards are protected and never compromised and involves the careful evolution and management of the concept from store to store. Adding this ‘scope’ to our remit ensures that the ‘evolution’ remains to the core Brand Standards, it is managed effectively (including amendments and updates) and communicated coherently and periodically to the supply chain. We have worked closely with Boots to introduce “value-added engineering” where the concept would be developed in a more cost-effective way but only if it maintained or added to the core brand identity.

VERSION 6 - 2010

The new corporate colours are used effectively to create honest, inviting and dynamic shop fronts on the high street. The dark red fascia band will extend across the whole length of the store, where possible, to denote the extent of the store on the high street. The new Wilkinson logo will be applied strategically to ensure impact while highlighting the store entrance. The new dark red fascia retains the strength of red from the old Wilkinson brand while presenting a new confident personality on the high street.

This image depicts a generic ideal application of a Wilkinson Shopfront. The variety of the Wilkinson portfolio will mean that the application of the new brand elements will differ from store to store, however the basic rules set out in the manual should be adhered to. Any variations that do not allow intelligent application of the brand elements should be referred back to the Wilkinson look and feel design team, for comment and approval.

Design Guides & ManualsOur clients have vast supply chains and one of the key tools to ensure that there is consistency across their estates is the implementation of their Design Guides. We can look at everything from the overall store layout right down to the individual fixtures and fittings. We present the information in a clear and graphical language that ensures that the entire supply chain and our client’s in-house teams all understand what expected in every store and the particular design requirements that are to be implemented. We have managed Wilkinson’s Design Guide for the past 4 years and the Boots Customer Journey Manual for the past 8 years.

Landlord Refurbishment

As a practice we have a wealth of knowledge across all sectors and because we know our retail clients inside-out we are able to transfer these skills to assist our landlord clients to refurbish and remodel their existing portfolio in order to maximise the space to attract the best retailers but to also ensure that they are getting the maximum return on their investment. We provide shell schemes and core fit outs for a number of mixed use landlords and have also produced Tenant Design Guides for our landlords to assist with the ongoing management of their portfolios.

For South Kensington Estates, we have been working with them to revitalise the estate through retail-led regeneration. The sensitive reconfiguration of some of their property has enabled them to improve the quality of their retail space and attract better quality tenants as well as refurbishing the above residential accommodation to provide high end housing.

Mixed Use

As mentioned on the previous page, our flexibility and design knowledge spans across all sectors and we are in a unique position to offer our clients this holistic approach. We regularly present and discuss our projects across internal design teams and share knowledge which benefits our retail clients, landlords and developers alike. We understand the commercial value of ground floor retail and commercial space and the intricate balance of the providing the right mix of accommodation on the upper floors. We have produced a number of high quality mixed use developments in areas of London that are now thriving - such as Shoreditch, Hackney and Covent Garden.
