VICE PRINCIPAL’S CORNER

Tidbits from Ms. Conner

I hope all had a wonderful, fun, and relaxing Spring

Break and that you enjoy your upcoming Easter

weekend, with family and friends! Look for us in

our local parish bulletins and sharing about our in-

credible school at some of our Easter Masses.

Track is in full swing!! There are over 40 5th-8th

graders out for the track team. Most of our meets

will be on Wednesdays in April and the season con-

tinues into the first two weeks of May. Our first

meet is next Wednesday at Illinois Valley High

volunteer hours we can use your help! We will need

lots of volunteers to make these meets happen. If

you can time or measure this is the place for you!

And a huge thank you to Lisa Young, our former PE

and Spanish teacher who is volunteering as track

coach this year. Welcome back!

I recently attended a English/Language Arts curricu-

lum committee meeting at the Archdiocese of Port-

land. As you know our focus last year was on read-

ing standards and this year the focus has been writ-

ing standards. The goal of the committee will be to

Pear Blossom Parade NEXT SATURDAY!!!

APRIL 11TH

Please join us NEXT Saturday to march in

the Pear Blossom Parade to spread the word about our GREAT school! We would love to get as many families in-

volved as possible with students in uniform marching with our

Sacred Heart bus and banner. We will hand out invitations to our Open House and Academic Showcase on May 7th and

advertise the great programs we have to offer. Thank you to Elizabeth Petersen who is heading up this

project and Misty Williams who will be working on the

banners for the bus. We will have more info next week regarding the times and

locations to meet the bus.

Don’t forget to put Tuesday, April 14th on your calendar as a night to head over to Wild River Pizza for dinner. Richard Clements (father of Sage Clements, 7th Grade) has offered to donate a portion of the food sales that day to SHCS! THANKS Richard and Wild River for supporting our SHCS Community. You will not need a coupon or flyer. So tell your friends and neighbors about it! You can eat some great pizza, enjoy dinner AND make money for our wonderful school!

The Eighth Grade Religion Class will be presenting a

silhouette version of the Stations of the Cross on

Thursday, 4.2.15, at 8:15 AM in the gym. Every

student participates in the presentation by writing

their own reflection of one of the stations. As a re-

flection is read, the station is presented by casting a

shadow upon the screen as a silhouette. Blessings

upon your Holy Week!

PRE K AND CATERPILLARS Pre-k has been watching painted caterpil-lars in our classroom now for the last 3 weeks or so. So far, it has been a really interested experience for the children to watch their transformation as caterpillars who started as tiny (3mm) caterpillars and grew to about an 3cm in size. The caterpil-lars changed right before spring break into their chrysalis, which the children saw them hang from the top of their container in the shape of a ‘J’ and the next day

transformed into a chrysalis. As of yesterday, one of the chrysalis hatched and we have one butterfly. Metamorphosis has taken place! The children witnessed the change this week and saw the butterfly hatch right out of the chrysalis. They observed the butterfly wiggle right out, and start unfolding their wings, and pumping them. We will release the butterflies by the end of the week out by the garden.

SPRING BEAUTIFICATION PROJECT

Thanks so much to some of our hard work-ing parents who came in over during Spring Break and revitalized our front door flower bed. They freshened up the bed and put down new bark. Thanks to Dawna McGill, Helen Jones, Andrea Seus, Corrine Payer and Elizabeth Petersen.

LENTEN PROJECT

We will continue to collect money for the Rubanda Solidarity School in Uganda until Friday, April 10th. Please be generous. For more information about this program, please visit the website of the US organiza-tion which supports the students and the school-yambaabaana.org

BOX TOPS

I will submit Our Spring Bonus sheets for Labels for Education after Spring Break. Please remember to turn in as many Pepperidge Farm Labels as possible

during the week after Spring Break. I only need 22 more Pepperidge Labels to

fill our Spring Bonus sheets. Remember that the labels may not all say Labels

for Education, but still submit them, because I can look up the point value. Just a

little fact the V8 Splash Juice has Labels for Education on them (just cut the

upc) and I can look up the point value. Our school benefits from everything we

submit, so please continue to send in all the Labels for Education including Pepper-

idge Labels and Box Tops. Tamara Spence

Tamara Spence has been an over achiever in the annuls of Box Top history.

In addition to all the playground items we have received so far, she has also

ordered:

A multi-pack of balls that have all official sizes: 2 Footballs, 2 Soccer Balls, 2

Volleyballs and 2 Basketballs for a total of 8 new balls.

2 intermediate size 4 Soccer Balls

1 Intermediate Football

2 Intermediate Basketballs

We are hoping these will arrive shortly after Spring Break.

Thanks, Tamara!
