Robitussin• Also known as

Guaifenesin.• It is an expectorant.• Helps loosen congestion

in your chest and throat.• Makes it easier to cough

out through your mouth.

Dosage• Use exactly as directed on the label or as prescribed by your

doctor.• Children younger than 4 years old should not take this.• Drink extra fluids while taking Robitussin to help loosen the

congestion.• If taking the liquid form, use the dose-measuring spoon or cup

instead of a regular table spoon.• If taking the tablet or capsule, swallow it whole. Breaking it

may cause too much of the drug to be released at one time.• Take Robitussin with food if it gives you an upset stomach.

Side Effects of Robitussin• Can result in an allergic reaction such as hives,

swelling of the throat, lips, or face.• Nausea or vomiting• Upset stomach.• Dizziness or headache.• Rash.

Allegra• Also known as

Fexofenadine.• It is an antihistamine.• It reduces histamine in the

body, which produces the symptoms of sneezing, itching, watery eyes and runny nose.

• Treats seasonal allergies.

Dosage• Take it as prescribed.• If taking the liquid, shake before you measure the dose.

Measure it with a dose-measuring spoon.• The regular tablet should be taken with a full glass of water.• Keep the disintegrating tablets in its packaging until it is ready

to be taken. Do not push the tablets through the foil because it can be damaged.

• The disintegrating tablets will begin to dissolve right away. Do not chew or swallow the tablet whole. These should be taken on an empty stomach one or two hours after a meal.

Side Effects of Allegra• Can also result in an allergic reaction such as hives,

swelling of the throat, lips, or face.• Nausea, diarrhea, or upset stomach.• Menstrual cramps.• Drowsiness.• Headache.• Back or muscle pain.

Ventolin• Also known as Albuterol. • It is a bronchodilator.• It relaxes the muscles in the

airways and increases air flow to the lungs.

• It is used to treat or prevent bronchospasm, which is wheezing or shortness of breath, associated with reversible obstructive airway disease.

Dosage• Take it exactly as it was prescribed.• When using the inhaler:

– Shake it before each spray.– Breathe out fully then breath in slowly while pushing down the canister.– Hold your breath for 10 seconds then breathe out slowly.

• When using the solution with a nebulizer:– Measure the correct amount of medicine.– Attach the mouthpiece or face mask to the drug chamber. Then attach

the chamber to the compressor.– Sit upright and place the mouthpiece into your mouth. Breathe slowly

and evenly until you have inhaled all of the medicine.

Side Effects of Ventolin• Bronchospasm.• Chest pain or uneven heart beats.• Nervousness or tremors.• Low potassium causing confusion, extreme thirst, increased urination, leg

discomfort, or muscle weakness.• High blood pressure causing severe headaches, blurred vision, buzzing in

your ears, anxiety, confusion, shortness of breath, etc.• Insomnia.• Cough, sore throat, runny or stuffy nose.• Diarrhea.
