A Brief explanation with the modify situation.

From the begging of the organization in 2007, Mihin Lanka is using Airbus Aircrafts and

existing fleet is Two A321 Aircrafts and One A320 Aircraft.

Now we are planning to acquire two brand new Boeing aircrafts in early 2015.

As our lease agreement of the current fleet of three Airbuses ends in early 2015, we are looking

forward in replacing them by acquiring modern Boeings .The two Boeings will have

approximately 180 passenger seats each and this will step into shoes of two A321 aircrafts.

There will be an additional cost involves for updating ‘Airbus’ to ‘Boeing’. We will be able to

cover the cost of  upgrading the ‘Boeings’ and also better fuel consumption will lead us to reduce

the operating cost than Airbus.

In addition to the two Boeings we will also operate a A320 aircraft.

For additional fuel saving and safety we will have fixed ETOP to our present fleet.

From the help of ETOP an Aircraft can fly 90 minutes with one engine.

With new Boeings we are planning to start Singapore and Bangkok sectors from 2015.

Process for System Definition The aircraft systems and avionics have discussed between engineering / Flt Ops and other

related parties.

A techno commercial decision considering the organization need vs cost and other improvements may drive this.

Support will be provided by Boeing, vendors and our teams to define the requirement fully.

The system definition time frame must be met to keep to the milestones of the program.

Vendor Contract BFE – Buyer Furnished Equipment

This means the Buyer (MJ) is responsible to award the program, procure the parts and manage the program to the level of delivery of the BFE items to Boeing on time.

10 | P a g e

Page 11: Change effort in a business organization (Air Bus to Boeing)

To do the above, upon vendor selection, contracts or agreements needs to be established with each vendor

These agreements would stipulate payments terms, delivery terms, customer support, guarantees , etc

MJ would require to establish these contract and project manage the BFE parts until all aircraft are delivered

SFE – Seller Furnished Equipment

These equipment / parts are items procured and managed by Boeing, under their responsibility.

Here the MJ responsibility would be only to decide on the vendor for these items.

The Next Step

Consider Resources requirements?

Set up a team to take lead from the airline perspective

Budgetary requirements

Contractual terms

Definition of the trim and finish for the overall aircraft.

Conclusion

Strengths of the implementation strategy

11 | P a g e

Page 12: Change effort in a business organization (Air Bus to Boeing)

Lufthansa   Maintainers Company is going to place a new Boeing MRO in Mattala Airport by early 2015

By this our Service and maintenance cost will be lower and there will be professional engineers and service staff to help us .

Fuel consumption will be low.

Weaknesses of the implementation strategy

We have to recruit Boeing rated Tech crew for the operation.

Have to train our ground handling staff and cabin crew about the new operation methods.

Engineers have to get the rating from CAA.

Have to procure new ground handling equipments.
