A publication of First Christian Church of Edmond, OK

    Vol. 3 No. 20 June 2, 2011

    CONNECTION

Looking For PearlsRev. Dr. Jerry Black, Associate MinisterIn what would

    be considered

    the narthex of

    our church

    or lobby,

    the area thatis used by

    most of us

    as the main

entrance into the sanctuary, there hang

a series of compelling prints by Kenneth

Wyatt. Although known primarily for his

paintings of western life, his deep faith

in God inspired this incredible series

featuring Jesus, Paul, and the Disciples.

For each piece, Dr. Wyatt completed

a vast amount of research, and from

that research, formed a vision of the

individuals he wanted for models. As

you read the description placed adjacent

to each framed print, you will also read

about the person chosen to model for that

particular painting. In some cases, the

search was simply a fortunate encounter.

In others, it was more of an intenseprocess; time consuming. Dr. Wyatt

wanted the perfect model and as one

can only imagine, there were times when

that person was difficult to find. But oh

the joy when at last he had been found.

In this Sundays Gospel lesson, there are

two discoveries. One is a treasure that a

very fortunate person just happens to find.

The other is a priceless pearl for which

    a merchant intentionally searches with

endless patience, knowing that his find will

be more than precious. (Read Matthew

    13:44-46)

    Through our June Re:New, table

conversations, we too are looking for

    something precious and pricelessgra

    moments in our life togethermomen

that are simply too rich to lose. We wa

to recall those moments, share them, celebrate them, capture them, and then

look for ways in which we can have mo

of them in our future together.

    So come,Re:New, each Sunday in

June at 9:15 am and then join us in a

unified worship and celebration of God

living presence, power, and work in ou

    lives.

    Our Sunday MorningSchedule for

    June 5, 12, 19 and 26

9:15am: Table ConversationsEach Sunday morning at 9:15, we

will gather around round tables in

Fellowship Hall to share our stories

    10:45am: Unied Worship

    Our Table Conversations

experience will be followed by a

    fellowship gathering, hosted by

    Membership Ministries. Children in

3rd through 5th grade will take

part in the June 5 and 12 Table

    Conversations. 6th through 12th

grade will join in all four weeks.

    Summer is

    here, which

    means another

    great mission

    trip is just

    around the

    corner. Our

    students and

    sponsors have

    been preparing

since January for the trip, and now we are

    only weeks away from departure!

This year our students are participating

in a musical tour. 28 students, 12 adults,

and 3 college interns will spend two weeks

on the road traveling across the country

sharing the musical, Life on the Edge,

    with churches in Missouri, Tennessee,

    Kentucky, Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, and

Oklahoma! While on the road, we willalso spend 5 days in Nashville at the

General Assembly of the Christian Church

(Disciples of Christ), and will perform at

the youth assembly as well as sing in an

    all-assembly choir for closing worship.

On Sunday, June 19, our students

will be sharing a piece of music from the

show during our unified worship, and

on Wednesday, July 20, they will offer

the entire musical as their homecoming

    performance.

We thank you for your support of

our fundraisers that have made this trip

possible, and we invite you to begin

praying for our students and our trip. We

leave on Wednesday, July 6, and return

on Wednesday, July 20. We look forward

to the ministry that lies ahead, and we

cant wait to share our musical with you

    when we return!
