Small 4to. Pp. 24. Numerous corrections and deletions in ink to the text. With three hand drawn maps (on three pages) rendered in black, red and blue ink. In ad-dition there is a hand written list (1,5 pages) titled “Voyages to & from, Marches, & Travels in India” made between 1866 and 1875. Contemporary half calf over pebble grained cloth.Presumably a printed proof of an unpublished travel account, maybe an article for a journal, annotated by the author and provided with interesting cartographic mate-rial. This travel journal describes Rosser’s journey into Himachal Pradesh which started out on April 12th,1872 from Mian-Mir (close to Lahore) into the Himalayas across mountains, through remote lands and beautiful valleys, by faraway villages and carried on right up to the Tibetan border. Parts of the journey became quite dangerous and difficult especially when crossing frozen snow drifts. Rosser came to Lama settlements in the Himalayas (Murung and Nisung) which previously had not been visited by any Europeans. After 450 miles mainly on foot crossing seven snow passes of between 12500 and 15000 feet the journey ended in Simla on June 5, the same year. At Simla he met with Robert Shaw who just had been appointed British Minister at Lek in Ladak. The journal describes the route with detailed in-formation about the scenery, wildlife, flora and fauna, the villages, what the people look like, their dresses, food, the camps, etc. Rosser is a curious observer and he writes about the landscape and the natives in a very expressive and humble way. Captain Richard Henry Rosser served between early 1872 and 1875 at the British Army Fort at Lahore, during which time he made this journey. We haven’t been able to find any published work by him.

Since the beginning of the 16th century Makassar was the major trading center of eastern Indonesia where Chinese, Indi-ans, Arabs, Siamese, Javanese and Malays came to exchange commodities (spices, metal goods, textiles, gold, copper, pearls, etc). The Dutch arrived in the beginning of the 17th century with the aim of establishing a hegemony over the spice trade in the area. In 1666 Speelman headed a Dutch expedition to Makassar, aided by Bugis soldiers, and managed to destroy the strongholds of the Sultanate of Gowa. The Treaty of Bongaja was signed in 1667 between Sultan Hasanudin of Gowa and the Dutch East India Company (VOC) which meant that all traders from Gowa had to apply for license in order to do business in regions controlled by VOC. gorgeous copy of this beautiful and rare work. Tristan Tzara (1896–1963) was the renowned Roman born writer and artist who was known for being one of the cen-tral figures of the anti-establishment Dada movement. His noted play “Le cœur à gaz” was first staged as part of the 1921 “Dada Salon” at the Galerie Montaigne in Paris. It was written as a parody of classical drama in the form of an absurd dia-logue between characters named after human body parts; mouth, ear, eye, nose, neck and eyebrow (Tzara himself). The second stage production, also titled “Le Cœur à barbe” was performed at Théâtre Michel in July 1923. Sonia Delaunay, the famous Ukrainian-born French artist, designed and costumed the production, cre-ating bright coloured eccentric geometrically-shaped costumes of thick cardboard. The play has been viewed as the final event in the evolution of Dada as a cultural movement.
