True Love
5th Sunday Special Contribution — Ghana Work
Before Haley and I were married I introduced her to the movie, “A Princess Bride.” Although the movie is filled with many memo-rable scene, the one that stood out to us was the wedding scene. In it the preacher begins the cer-emony with the words, “Luv twwroo Lluuv.” No, that is not a typo, but an attempt to phonically mimic the lisp with which the preacher spoke.
Often, one thinks of a wedding when contemplating true love, but my, my how it grows so much deeper from that point forward. Love explain why, without com-plaint or expectation I will be tak-ing care of Haley following her surgery. Love also explains why parents selflessly care for their children. A child often does not realize the full scope of their par-ents love for them until they have children themselves.
However, God show man an even greater love.
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoev-er believes in him should not per-ish but have eternal life. (17) For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. (ESV,
John 3:16-17)
For while we were still weak, at the right time Christ died for the ungodly. (7) For one will scarce-ly die for a righteous person--though perhaps for a good person one would dare even to die-- (8) but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. (ESV, Ro-mans 5:6-8)
As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you. Abide in my love. (10) If you keep my com-mandments, you will abide in my

love, just as I have kept my Father's commandments and abide in his love. (11) These things I have spoken to you, that my joy may be in you, and that your joy may be full. (12) "This is my commandment, that you love one anoth-er as I have loved you. (13) Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends. (14) You are my friends if you do what I command you. (ESV, John 15:9-14)
At its root Christianity is all about love. God’s love for man, and the expectation of the return of love. "If you love me, you will keep my commandments” (ESV, John 14:15).
With Love,
Jim Bradshaw
