Safety instructions and warnings• To prevent injury or damage to the unit, the appliance

should be unpacked and set up by two people.• In the event that the appliance is damaged on delivery, contact

the supplier immediately before connecting to the mains.• To guarantee safe operation, ensure that the appliance is set up

and connected as described in these operating instructions.• Disconnect the appliance from the mains if any fault occurs. Pull

out the plug, switch off or remove the fuse.• When disconnecting the appliance, pull on the plug, not on the

cable.• Any repairs and work on the appliance should only be carried

out by the customer service department, as unauthor ised work could prove highly dangerous for the user. The same applies to changing the mains power cable.

• Do not allow naked flames or ignition sources to enter the appli-ance. When transporting and cleaning the appliance ensure that the refrigerant circuit is not damaged. In the event of damage, make sure that there are no ignition sources nearby and keep the room well ventilated.

• Do not stand on the plinth, drawers or doors or use them to support anything else.

• Do not let children play with the appliance, e.g. do not allow them to sit in the drawers or swing on the doors.

• This appliance is not intended for use by persons (including children) with reduced physical, sensory or mental capabilities or lack of experience and knowledge unless they have been given initial supervision or instruction concerning use of the appliance by a person responsible for their safety. Children should be supervised to ensure that they do not play with the appliance.

• Avoid prolonged skin contact with cold surfaces or chilled/frozen food. This could cause pain, numbness and frostbite. In the case of prolonged skin contact, protective measures should be taken, e.g. gloves should be worn.

• Do not eat ice-cream, particulary ice lollies or ice-cubes, imme-diately after taking them from the freezer compartment as there is a risk of "burning" because of the very cold temperatures.

• Do not consume food which has been stored for too long, as it could cause food poisoning.

• The appliance is designed for cooling, freezing and storage of food, and for making ice and is intended for domestic use. If used for commercial purposes, the relevant legal regulations applicable to the trade concerned must be observed.

• Do not store explosives or sprays using combustible propellants such as butane, propane, pentane etc. in the appliance. Electrical components might cause leaking gas to ignite. You can identify such sprays by the printed contents or a flame symbol.

• Do not use electrical appliances inside the appliance.

Hausbus-ModulThe Hausbus-Modul-Slave enables you to integrate your ap-pliance into a home network (EHS Powerline). You can then- operate all the functions of the appliance or- display the status of the appliance, e.g. door open alarm,

current refrigerator/freezer temperature, or- assemble the Liebherr HomeDialogSystem. In this way a freezer installed in the basement can be control-

led via the display on the combined refrigerator-freezer in the kitchen (setting the temperature, switching SuperFrost or DuraFrost on and off). All display functions (temperature, door alarm, mains failure) can also be called up.

The Hausbus-Modul-Master enables you to control an exter-nal freezer via the display on your combined refrigerator-freezer. For this, the following requirements must be met: installation of the Hausbus-Modul-Master in the combined refrigerator-freezer and installation of the Hausbus-Modul-Slave in the external freezer.With the help of the resulting HomeDialogSystem you can- monitor the external appliance,- display error messages, e.g. door not closed or mains failure,- operate all functions of the external appliance via the display.

A value will only be displayed when the temperature in the freezer com-partment reaches 0°C or lower. This indicates the current temperature in the freezer compartment.The pre-set temperatures will be dis-played above or below the respective temperature display. Connecting to the mainsPower supply (AC) and voltage at the operating point must comply with the details on the type plate, which is located on the inside left of the appliance. The socket must be fused with a 10 A fuse or higher, it must be away from the rear of the appliance and must be easily accessible.Connect the appliance with a properly earthed fused plug and socket only.The wires in the mains lead are coloured in accordance with the following code: green/yellow = earth, blue = neutral, brown = live. Setting up• Avoid positioning the appliance in direct sunlight or near cookers,

radiators and similar sources of heat.• The floor on which the appliance stands should be horizontal and level.

To compensate for any unevenness, adjust the height of the feet with the open-ended spanner supplied.

• The ventilation grilles should not be obstructed. Always ensure that there is good ventilation and that the outward flowing air is able to escape.

• Do not place heat-emitting appliances, e.g. microwave oven, toaster, etc., on top of the appliance.

• Standard EN 378 specifies that the room in which you install your ap-pliance must have a volume of 1 m3 per 8 g of R 600a refrigerant used in the appliance, so as to avoid the formation of inflammable gas/air mixtures in the room where the appliance is located in the event of a leak in the refrigerant circuit. The quantity of refrigerant used in your ap-pliance is indicated on the type plate on the inside of the appliance.

VACATION MODEIn the case of lengthy periods of absence, the refrigerator can be switched to an individual operating mode. After removing all food, the vacation mode can be activated. Due to the constant temperature in the refrigerator, the build-up of odours will be avoided, even if the appliance door remains closed.

SUPERFROSTFresh food should be frozen to the core as rapidly as possible. This is provided by the SuperFrost facility. The maximum amount of food (in kg) which can be frozen in 24 hours is shown on the type plate ("Freezing capacity" ➍).

BIOFRESHThe BioFresh compartment enables you to keep a range of fresh food fresh for up to 3 times longer than usual whilst maintaining the same quality as with conventional refrigerators.The automatically controlled storage temperature, which is kept constantly at just above 0°C, and the resultant humidity provide the ideal storage conditions for different types of food.

Notes on freezing and storage• Items suitable for freezing: meat, game, poultry, fresh fish,

vegetables, fruit, dairy products, bread, baked goods, pre-cooked meals. Not suitable: lettuce, radishes, grapes, whole apples and pears, fatty meat.

• Pack food which you are freezing yourself in quantities appropriate to your household. To ensure that the food freezes right through, the following quantities should not be exceeded per pack age:

fruit, vegetables: up to 1 kg, meat: up to 2.5 kg.• Blanch vegetables after washing and cutting them. (Add to boil-

ing water for 2-3 minutes, remove and quickly cool down in cold water).

• Do not salt or season fresh food or blanched vegetables before freezing. Only lightly salt and season other food. The intensity of flavour of some spices can change.

• Pack frozen food in standard freezer bags or reuseable plastic, metal or aluminium containers.

• Do not allow fresh food which is to be frozen to come into contact with food already frozen. Always keep packs dry in order to avoid them sticking together.

• Always write the date and contents on the pack and do not exceed the stated storage time for the food.

• Do not freeze bottles and cans which contain carbonated drinks as they might burst.

• Only take out as much food as is immediately required for thaw-ing. Cook food which has been thawed as quickly as possible.

Frozen food can be thawed in the following ways:– in a fan oven– in a microwave oven– at room temperature– in the refrigerator: the cold given off by the frozen food is used

for cooling.Flat portions of meat and fish can be cooked when partly thawed. Vegetables can be cooked from frozen (in half the normal time).

EquipmentYou can re-arrange the storage shelves as required. Lift up shelves at the front, pull them out halfway and remove by tilting upwards or downwards.When inserting a shelf, the guard bar / raised edge at the back must be facing upwards, otherwise food may freeze to the rear wall.

Repositioning the door racks- Lift door rack vertically, lift out to the front

and re-insert at a different height, follow-ing these steps in the reverse order.

- By shifting the bottle holder you can protect the bottles from falling over when opening or closing the door.

Sectioned shelffor tall containersIf you require space for large bottles and containers, slide one half of the glass shelf to the back.

Note• Food which gives off or absorbs odours and flavours as well as

liquids should always be stored covered or in closed containers. High-percentage alcohols should be tightly sealed and stored upright.

BioFresh compartmentThe top drawer ➑ is suitable for storing dry or wrapped food (e.g. dairy products, meat, fish, cold meats). The storage climate in this drawer is relatively dry.The drawer with humidity control ➒: When set to "humid" this drawer can be used for storing salad, vegetables and fruit. When the drawer is full, the climate will be "dew-fresh", with approximately 90% humidity. You can set the humidity in this drawer to dry or moist as required.Humidity selection:• "dry" setting: small humidity symbol - slide control to left.

Insert food that is suitable for being stored in a dry climate.• "humid" setting: high relative humidity of max. 90%, large

humidity symbol - slide control to right. This setting is suitable for storing unwrapped food with a high moisture content such as fresh lettuce.

Notes• The humidity in the compartment depends on the moisture

content of the food in it, and the frequency with which the com-partment is opened.

• The fresher the product and the higher its quality, the longer it will keep.

• Unwrapped animal and vegetable foods should be stored sepa-rately in the drawers. If there is not enough space for them to be stored separately, make sure that they are wrapped. Do not allow different types of meat to come into contact with one another but keep them packaged separately so as to avoid premature bacterial spoilage.

• The following products should not be stored in the BioFresh compartment: hard cheese, potatoes, cold-sensitive vegetables such as cucumber, peppers, aubergines, avocados, semi-ripe tomatoes, beans, zucchini, and all cold-sensitive tropical fruits such as pineapple, bananas, grapefruit, melons, mangoes, papaya, etc.

Interior lightThis switches off automatically after the door has been opened for approx. 15 minutes. If it does not switch on when the door is opened briefly, but the temperature display is working, the bulb may be defective.Replacing the bulb:• Bulb data: max. 25 W; current and voltage must agree with the

details on the type plate. Only use bulbs of the same size. Bulb fitting: E 14.

• Switch off the appliance. Disconnect from the mains or remove or unscrew the fuse.

• Press the light cover together at the sides as in fig. F1 (1). Lift it out and unclip at back (2).

• Replace the bulb as in fig. F2.• Clip the back end of the cover in and clip the sides into place.

- To clean the BioFresh drawers, pull the drawers right out, grip at back

and lift out.- To re-insert: place the drawers on the

extended rails - the rails must be aligned with the front of the drawer-and slide in.

- Simply pull the drawer cover out towards you. When replacing, slot the bearing pins into position in the guide slots.

The drawer and the cover must be flush with one another.

Shutting your appliance downIf your appliance is to be shut down for any length of time, switch it off and disconnect the plug or switch off or unscrew the fuse. Clean the appliance and leave the door open in order to prevent unpleasant smells.

The refrigerant circuit has been tested for leaks. The appliance is radio-suppressed to EN 55014 and thus complies with EC Directive 87/308/EEC.

All types and models are subject to continuous improvement and the manufacturer therefore reserves the right to make modifica tions to the shape, equipment and technology.

DefrostingRefrigerator compartmentThe refrigerator compartment defrosts automatically. The water that forms on the rear wall drains into a reservoir at the back of the appliance and evaporates automatically through the compressor heat. Simply ensure that the drain opening in the rear wall behind the top BioFresh drawer is not blocked and that the defrost water can drain off properly.Clean the drain hole (arrow) on the rear wall behind the BioFresh drawers frequently.If necessary, clean with a thin object, e.g. a cotton swab or similar.

Freezer compartmentThe NoFrost system automatically defrosts the appliance.Any moisture arising collects on the evaporator and freezes, and is periodically defrosted and evaporated.

CleaningBefore cleaning, always switch off the appliance. Disconnect from the mains or unscrew or switch off the fuse.Clean the inside, equipment parts and outer walls with lukewarm water and a little detergent. Do not use abrasive or acid cleaners or chemical solvents.Do not use steam cleaning equipment because of the risk of injury and damage. • Ensure that no cleaning water penetrates into the electrical

components or ventilation grille.• Dry all parts well with a cloth.• The dust should be removed from the refrigeration unit and

heat exchanger - metal grid at the back of the appliance - once a year.

• Do not damage or remove the type plate on the inside of the appliance. It is very important for servicing purposes.

• Use a commercially available stainless-steel cleaning agent for stainless-steel appliances.

- In order to achieve best possible protection, apply a stainless-steel care agent uniformly in grinding direction after cleaning. Points which are darker at the start and a more intensive colora-tion of the stainless-steel surface are normal.

- Do not use abrasive sponges or scourers, do not use concen-trated cleaning agents and never use cleaning agents contain-ing sand, chloride or acid or chemical solvents, as these would damage the surfaces and could cause corrosion.

- The butter dish can be washed in a dishwasher. The racks, shelves and other components should be cleaned by hand.

- The shelves can be dismantled for cleaning. Remove the trims and sides from the glass shelves.

- Remove all protective film.

Cold-storage accumulatorsThe cold-storage accumulators provided prevent the temperature in the freezer from rising too quickly in the event of a power failure. To ensure maximum storage time in the event of a power failure, place the cold-storage accumulators in the top-most large freezer drawer on top of the food.

Freezing chartThe freezing chart repre-sents the frozen food and the time it can be safely stored in months. The individual storage times and whether or not the lower or upper value is applicable depend on the food qual-ity, its processing prior to freezing, and the individual household's quality require-ments. The lower values always apply to food with a high fat content.

Installing appliance in a row of kitchen units To adapt the height of the appliance to the surrounding furniture a top unit ➊ can be added. A gap of at least 50 mm depth must be provided behind and along the entire width of this unit so as to ensure sufficient ventilation. The area of ventilation underneath the ceiling should be at least 300 cm2.Condensation may form on the outside of the refrigerator/freezer during periods of high humidity.

Constant ventilation of the installation site is recommend.

MalfunctionsYour appliance is designed and manufactured for a lengthy, reliable operating life with no malfunctions. If a malfunction nonetheless occurs during operation, check whether it is due to an operating error. Please note that even during the war-ranty period the resultant servicing costs in this case will have to be borne by the owner.You may be able to rectify the following faults by checking the possible causes yourself: Appliance does not function:– Is the appliance switched on?– Is the plug correctly fitted in the mains socket?– Is the socket fuse intact? Loud running noise:– Is the appliance set up firmly on the floor?– Does the appliance cause nearby items of furniture or objects

to vibrate? Please note that noises caused by the refrigerant circuit cannot be avoided.

The temperature is not low enough:– Is the temperature setting correct (see "Temperature")?– Have excessive amounts of fresh food been placed in the ap-

pliance? – Does the separately installed thermometer show the correct

reading?– Is the ventilation system working properly?– Is the appliance set up too close

to a heat source?If none of the above causes apply and you cannot rectify the fault yourself, contact the nearest cus-tomer service department stating the type designation ➊, index ➋ and appliance number ➌ as indicated on the type plate. The type plate is located in the refrigerator compartment on the left-hand side.

• Remove cover plate 6 from the top of the appliance.

• Open the top door.• Detach cover plate 7 and

remove. Remove the cover plate from the other side as well.

Changing over door hinges

The following tools are required to change over the door hinges: flat pli-ers, Torx 15 and Torx 25 screwdrivers.

• Disconnect the appliance from the mains!

• Remove cover 2.• Remove plinth panel 1.• Close door.• Remove screw 3.• Remove hinge component 4 with hinge pin 5.

• Remove the bottom door.• Lift off spacer bo and replace on the other side.

• Remove connector 8 and pull the cable out of the guides in the hinge 9.

• Close the top door.• Remove the screws bl.• Remove the safety tape from

the hinge side.• Tilt the door to the side and

remove by lifting upwards.• Support the door securely.

• Suspend door on centre hinge pin bn and insert into the top hinge 9.

• Lift up the door and insert the screws bl, screwing in the front screws first.

• Insert the cable in the guides in the hinge: it must pass behind the hinge.

• Plug in the connector 8.

Re-inserting parts into the left-hand opening for the re-frigerator door mounting:

• Replace insert bt and attach with screws bs. Make sure cable clip cp is as low down as possible.

• Insert cover plate br.• Align hinge component cs

as illustrated.• Pull out or push in cable until

the cable marking aligns with the hinge component.

Removing parts from the right-hand opening for the refrigerator door mounting:• Detach cover plate br and

remove (side A).• Remove the screws bs.• Using pliers, remove insert bt at the point marked with a pliers symbol.

• Prise out cover plate bu (side B) from the left-hand opening for the door mounting.

• Remove rubber seal cl from the opening for the door mounting on the left and insert it on the right.

• Insert cover plate bu (side B) into the right-hand opening for the door mounting.

• Change over hinge pin bn and bushing bm.

• Transfer hinge bp and cover bq to the opposite side.

• Unscrew hinge 9.• Transfer the plastic parts on the

hinge 9 to the opposite side.

• Unscrew earthing plate cm.• Screw on hinge 9 on the left-

hand side of the appliance: first the upper screw cq, then

the inner screw cq and finally the small screw co.

• Turn earthing plate cm through 180° and screw tight again: first screw cq, then the small screw co.

• Moving the BioFresh drawers:

- Pull each drawer right out, grip at back and lift out

- Pull the drawer cover out towards you and replace in the grooves so that it is offset towards the new handle side. Slide in until the support pins snap into place.

- Replace the drawers by placing on the fully extend-ed guide rails - the rails must be aligned with the front of the drawer - and slide in.

The drawer and the cover must be flush with one another vertically.

• Suspend the bottom door on hinge pin bp and close.

• Rotate hinge component 4 by 180°, remove hinge pin 5, turn by 180° and replace. Mount both parts in the bot-tom hinge, slide the hinge pin into the door mounting.

• Secure the mounting with screw 3.

• Align the door using the slot on the hinge.

• Tighten screw 3.• Click plinth panel 1 into

place.• Fit cover 2.

• Click cover plate 6 into place.
