1.3 Range of appliance useThe appliance is only suitable for refrigeratingfood in a domestic environment or an environ-ment that is similar to a domestic one. Thisincludes, for example, use- in staff kitchens, bed and breakfast establish-

ments,- by guests in country houses, hotels, motels

and other accommodation facilities,- for catering and similar services in wholesale

premisesOnly use the appliance in a normal domesticsetting. No other types of use are permissible.The appliance is not suitable for storing andrefrigerating medicines, blood plasma, labora-tory preparations or similar substances andproducts referred to in CMDCAS and FDA 510(k). Misuse of the appliance may lead to damageto or spoiling of the goods stored. 1.5 Energy saving- Always ensure good ventilation. Do not obstruct venti-

lation openings or grilles.- Do not install the appliance in direct sunlight or next to

an oven, heater, or similar heat source.- Energy consumption depends on installation conditions

such as the ambient temperature (see 1.3) .- Avoid opening the appliance door for any longer then

neccesary.- The lower the temperature is set the higher the energy

consumption.- All food stored in the appliance should be well wrapped

and covered. This prevents frost buildup.- Only take food out for as long as necessary so that it

does not get too warm.- Storing hot food: let it cool to room temperature first.- Defrost frozen food in the fridge.

2 General safety informationRead and follow these instructions. They containsafety advice which is important for safe andproblem-free installation and operation. Alwaysread and follow the safety advice.Dangers for the user:- This appliance can be operated by children 8

years and older as well as by persons withreduced physical, sensory or mental capabili-ties or lack of experience and knowledge ifthey are supervised or have been instructed inthe safe use of the appliance and understandthe associated risks. Children must not playwith the appliance. Cleaning and user mainte-nance must not be performed by childrenunless they are supervised.

- When disconnecting the appliance from theoutlet, always take hold of the plug. Do not pullon the cable.

- Disconnect the power plug or switch off thepower if a fault occurs.

- Do not damage the mains power line. Do notoperate the appliance from a defective mainspower line.

- Repairs, work on the appliance and replace-ment of the power cord should only be carriedout by the customer service department.

- Only install, connect and dispose of the appli-ance in accordance with the instructions.

- Only operate the appliance after it has beeninstalled.

- Please keep the instructions and pass them onto any future owner.

- All repairs to or work on the IceMaker mustonly be carried out by the customer servicedepartment or other specialist engineerstrained to do this.*

Risk of fire:- Do not operate the appliance near explosive

4 Start-up4.1 Transporting the appliance

CAUTIONRisk of injury or damage if incorrectly transported.u Transport the appliance in its packaging.u Transport the appliance upright.u Do not move the appliance on your own.

4.2 Setting up the appliance

WARNINGRisk of fire due to moisture!If live parts or the power cord get wet, this can cause ashort circuit.u The appliance is designed for use in enclosed spaces.

Do not operate the appliance in open space or in dampareas or where there is spray.

u Only operate the appliance after it has been installed.

WARNINGRisk of fire due to short circuit.If the power cable or plug of the appliance or anotherappliance and the back of the appliance touch each otherthe power cable or plug will be damaged by the vibrationsof the appliance which could lead to a short circuit.u Install the appliance so that it does not touch any plugs

or power cables.u Do not connect the appliance or other appliances to the

sockets on the back of the appliance.

ator or freezer except another Liebherr model. Liebherrmodels are designed to allow side-by-side installation.They are equipped with a heating system to eliminatecondensation when refrigerators or freezers areinstalled side-by-side.

NOTICERisk of damage for the finished floor surface!u Protect the finished floor surface before you uncrate the

unit.Verify that:q The floor under the appliance is flat and level.q The floor can support the appliance's weight plus

approximately 1200 pounds (544 kg) of food weight.q The appliance is not placed in direct sunlight or near

the stove, range top, radiators and similar heatsources.

q The kitchen cabinet that the appliance is installed in isshimmed to the floor level if the floor heights are notequal.

q Cutout dimensions are accurate.q Electrical outlet is in correct location.q The air flow is not restricted. Air flow must be provided

for the appliance to operate properly. The factory airvents provide 31 square inches (200 cm2) of air flowper appliance. If you are replacing the air vents with anoverlay, the air flow must be the same or greater thanthe factory air vents.

u Examine the unit and packaging for shipping damage.Contact the carrier immediately if you suspect there isany damage.

u Note the type (model, number), index, appliance/serialnumber, date of purchase and where purchased(see 6.6) .

u Remove anything attached to the rear or side walls ofappliance that would prevent proper installation orimpede proper ventilation.

u Unscrew the red transportlock. Close the vacatedretaining hole using thestopper (70).

Noteu Clean the appliance (see 6.2) .If the appliance is set up in humid areas, condensationmay build on the outside of the appliance.u Always ensure proper ventilation.

4.3 Disposal of packaging

WARNINGDanger of suffocation from packaging materials and films!u Do not allow children to play with packaging materials.The packaging is made from recyclable materials:- Corrugated card/cardboard- Parts made of foamed polystyrene- Films and bags from polyethylene- Packing bands from polypropylene- Wood frame nailed together with a polyethylene

4.4 Connecting the appliance

WARNINGElectrical shock hazard!u Start-up should only take place once the appliance has

been installed according to these instructions.u Electrically ground appliance.u Do not ground to a gas pipe.u Check with a qualified electrician if you are not sure the

appliance is properly grounded.u Do not have a fuse in the neutral or grounding circuit.u Do not use an extension cord, power bar or a multiple

socket adapter.u Do not use a power cord that is frayed or damaged.

WARNINGElectrical shock hazard!This appliance is equipped with a three-prong (grounding)polarized plug for your protection against possible shockhazards. Electrical Grounding Required.u Do not remove the round grounding prong from the

plug.u Use only an grounded adapter.- Wait 1 hour after installation before you plug in the

appliance. This allows the refrigerant and system lubri-cation to reach equilibrium.

- Make sure incoming voltage is the same as the appli-ance rating. A 110-120 Volt, 60 Hz, 15 Amp electricalsupply (20 Amp for side-by-side installations) circuitthat is controlled by a circuit breaker or fuse is required.

- We recommend using a dedicated circuit for this appli-ance to prevent electrical overload.

- Follow all Federal, State and local electrical, fire andbuilding codes and ordinances when installing thereceptacle and / or the appliance.

- In some communities, a wall switch is required to turnpower to the appliance ON and OFF.

Start-up


- To reduce the risk of fire, electric shock, or personalinjury, installation work and electrical wiring must bedone by a qualified electrician in accordance with allapplicable codes and standards, including fire-ratedconstruction.

- The Power Plug must be easily accessible so that theappliance can be disconnected from the mains quicklyin an emergency. It must not be behind the back of theappliance.

- The top of the electric outlet must be located within82-5/8 in. (2100 mm) from the top of the base in thecabinet.

4.5 Switching on the applianceNoteu To switch on the entire appliance, only the freezer

compartment needs to be switched on.Switch on the appliance 2 hours before loadingwith frozen food for the first time.Do not load frozen foods until the temperaturedisplay reads 0 °F (-18 °C).

4.5.1 Switching on the freezer compartmentu Open the door.u Press On/Off button, freezer compartment Fig. 2 (3).w The refrigerator compartment temperature display indi-

cates the set temperature.w The temperature display for the freezer compartment

will flash until the temperature is cold enough. If thetemperature is greater than 32 °F (0 °C), flashingdashes will appear; if the temperature is lower than this,the set temperature will flash on the display.

4.5.2 Switching on the fridge compartmentu Open the door.u Press Fridge compartment On/Off button Fig. 2 (11).w The interior light comes on when the door is opened.w The temperature display flashes. The fridge compart-

ment is switched on.

5.2 Brightness of the temperaturedisplayYou can adapt the brightness of the temperature displayto the light conditions in the room in which it is installed.5.2.1 Setting the brightnessThe brightness can be set between h1 (minimum lumi-nosity) and h5 (maximum luminosity).u To activate setting mode: Press SuperFrost button

5.3 Child-proof lockYou can use the child-proof lock to lock thebuttons. This means that children cannot acci-dentally switch off the appliance when playing.5.3.1 Switching on the child-proof locku To activate setting mode: Press SuperFrost button

u To switch off: Using Freezer compartment Upbutton Fig. 2 (5) or Freezer compartment Downbutton Fig. 2 (4) select c0.

u To confirm: Press SuperFrost button Fig. 2 (2).w If the Child-proof lock symbol Fig. 2 (8) lights up, the

child-proof lock is switched on.u To deactivate setting mode: Press Freezer compart-

ment On/Off button Fig. 2 (3).-or-u Wait for 5 minutes.w The temperature is again displayed in the temperature

display.

5.4 Door alarmIf the door is open for longer than 180 seconds,the acoustic warning sounds.The acoustic warning stops automatically whenthe door is closed.

5.4.1 Switching off the door alarmThe acoustic warning can be switched off when the dooris open. The acoustic warning remains switched off aslong as the door is open. When the door is closed, thealarm function is active again.u Press Alarm button Fig. 2 (1).w The door alarm stops.

5.5 Temperature alarmIf the freezer temperature is not cold enough,the audible warning sounds.At the same time, the temperature display willflash.

The cause of a temperature being too high may be:- Hot fresh food was placed in the appliance.- When sorting and removing food from the appliance,

too much warm ambient air got in.- The power was cut off for a while.- The appliance is faulty.The audible warning automatically ceases, and thetemperature display stops flashing when the temperatureis cold enough again.If the alarm status remains: (see Troubleshooting).NoteIf the temperature is not cold enough, food may spoil.u Check the quality of the food. Do not consume spoiled

food.

5.5.1 Switching off the temperature alarmThe acoustic warning can be switched off. When thetemperature is cold enough again, the alarm function isactive again.u Press Alarm button Fig. 2 (1).w The acoustic warning ceases.

5.6 Fridge compartmentThe natural circulation of air in the refrigerator compart-ment results in zones with differing temperatures. It iscoldest directly above the vegetable drawers and at therear wall. It is warmest at the top front of the compartmentand in the door.5.6.1 Arranging Food

5.6.2 Refrigerating foodNoteu Do not load the door with more than 35 lbs (16 kg) of

food.

NoteInsufficient ventilation results in an increase in energyconsumption and reduction of the refrigerating perform-ance.u Never block the air slits in the fan.u Use recyclable plastic, metal, aluminum and glass

containers and cling film to wrap foods.u Always use closed containers for liquids and for food

that may give off or be tainted by odor or flavor transferor cover them.

u Foods which give off a large amount of ethylene gasand those that are sensitive to this gas, such as fruit,vegetables and salad, should always be separated orwrapped so as not to reduce the storage life; forexample, do not store tomatoes together with kiwi fruitsor cabbage.

u Use the front floor area of the fridge compartment onlyto set down food to be refrigerated temporarily, e.g.,when rearranging or sorting the contents of the fridge.Do not leave the food there, as it may be pushed backor tipped over when the door is closed.

u Do not store food too close together to enable sufficientair circulation.

Operation


u To ensure bottles do not tip over: move the bottleholder.

5.6.3 Setting the temperatureThe temperature depends on the following factors:- the number of times the door is opened- the room temperature of the installation location- the type, temperature and amount of food.The temperature can be set from 46 °F (7 °C) to (2 °C),(5 °C) is recommended.u To set a higher temperature: press the Fridge compart-

ment Up button Fig. 2 (10).u To set a lower temperature: press the Fridge compart-

ment Down button Fig. 2 (9).w When pressed once the previously set fridge compart-

ment temperature display value will flash.u To change the temperature in 1 °F (1 °C) increments:

briefly press the button.u To change the temperature continuously: hold the

button down.w The value is displayed flashing during the setting oper-

ation.w The actual temperature is displayed about 5 seconds

after the last press of a button. The temperature slowlyadjusts to the new value.

5.6.4 SuperCoolWith SuperCool you switch to the highest coolingperformance to reach lower cooling tempera-tures. Use SuperCool to rapidly cool large quan-tities of food.When SuperCool is activated, the fan* runs. The appli-ance operates with maximum refrigeration. The noise ofthe refrigeration unit may be temporarily louder as aresult.SuperCool will use more energy than normal operation.Cooling with SuperCoolu Briefly press the SuperCool button Fig. 2 (12).w The SuperCool button Fig. 2 (12) lights up.w The cooling temperature drops to the coldest value.

SuperCool is switched on.w SuperCool automatically switches itself off after about

6-12 hours. The appliance returns to work in theenergy-saving normal mode.

To prematurely switch off SuperCoolu Briefly press the SuperCool button Fig. 2 (12).w The SuperCool button Fig. 2 (12) goes out.w SuperCool is switched off.5.6.5 FanThe fan allows you to rapidly cool large amountsof fresh food or to achieve a relatively evendistribution of temperature across all the storagelevels.Re-circulated air cooling is advisable:

- at high room temperatures (from approx. 95 °F(35 °C) )

- in the case of high humidityRe-circulated air cooling has a somewhat higher energyconsumption. To save energy, the fan automaticallyswitches off when the door is open.Switching on the fanu Briefly press Ventilation button Fig. 2 (13).w The Ventilation button lights up.w The fan is switched on.Switching the fan off (default)u Briefly press Ventilation button Fig. 2 (13).w The Ventilation button lights up.w The fan is switched off.5.6.6 ShelvesRepositioning the shelves

CAUTIONDanger of lacerations!The storage shelf can shatter if dropped or mishandled.You could cut yourself on the pieces of broken glass.u Only remove storage shelves when there is nothing on

them.Extension stops secure the shelves against being acci-dentally pulled out.u Lift the shelf and pull out

forward.u Insert the shelf with the

raised edge to the backpointing upwards.

w This prevents food fromcontacting and freezing tothe back wall.

To dismantle shelvesu The shelves can be

dismantled for cleaning.

5.6.7 Using the split shelf

CAUTIONDanger of lacerations!The storage shelf can shatter if dropped or mishandled.You could cut yourself on the pieces of broken glass.u Only remove storage shelves when there is nothing on

them.

food.Repositioning the door racks

u Push rack up, pull forward, and reinsert in the reverseorder.

Always take the butter and cheesecompartment out together with thecover.u To remove the cover: press one

side of the butter and cheesecompartment outwards until thehinge pin of the cover is released,then remove the cover sideways.

To dismantle door racks

u The door racks can be dismantled for cleaning.5.6.9 Removing the bottle holderu Remove the bottle holder as per the

illustration.u Always take hold of the bottle

holder by the plastic part.

5.7 Freezer compartmentYou can store frozen food, make ice cubes and freezefresh food in the freezer compartment.5.7.1 Freezing foodEach drawer can hold up to 55.12 lbs (25 kg) of frozenfood; each plate can hold up to 77.16 lbs (35 kg).After the door is closed, a vacuum is created. Afterclosing the door, wait about 1 minute, then the door iseasier to open.

w The actual temperature is displayed about 5 secondsafter the last press of a button. The temperature slowlyadjusts to the new setting.

5.7.4 SuperFrostWith this function you can rapidly freeze freshfood through to the core. The appliance workswith maximum refrigerating performance. Thesound of the refrigeration unit may be tempora-rily louder as a result.Depending on how much fresh food is to be frozen youmust switch SuperFrost on in advance - for a smallamount of food to be frozen, about 6 hours, for themaximum amount about 24 hours before putting the foodin.Package the food and place it inside across as wide anarea as possible. Do not bring food that is to be frozeninto contact with products that are already frozen toprevent these items from starting to thaw.You do not need to switch SuperFrost on in the followingcases:- when placing frozen food in the freezer- when freezing up to about 2 kg of fresh food a dayFreezing with SuperFrostu Briefly press the SuperFrost button Fig. 2 (2) once.w The SuperFrost button Fig. 2 (2) lights up.w The freezing temperature drops and the appliance

operates at its maximum refrigeration power rating.When a small amount of food is to be frozen.

5.7.5 DrawersNoteInsufficient ventilation results in an increase in energyconsumption and reduction of the refrigerating perform-ance.For appliances with NoFrost:u Leave the bottom drawer in the appliance.u Never block the air slits in the fan on the rear wall.

u To store frozen food directly on the shelves: pull thedrawer forward and lift it out.

5.7.6 Shelvesu To remove shelf: lift it at the front and

pull out forward.u To reinsert shelf: simply slide it in as

far as it will go.

5.7.7 VarioSpaceIn addition to the drawers, youcan also take out the shelves.This gives you space for largefrozen items. Poultry, meat,large joints of game and tallbakery items can be frozenand then presented whole.u Each drawer can hold up to

55.12 lbs (25 kg) of frozenfood; each plate can holdup to 77.16 lbs (35 kg).

The drawer is labeled“IceMaker”.Make sure that the following conditions are fulfilled:- The appliance is level.- The appliance is connected to the electricity supply.- The freezer compartment is switched on.- The minimum freezer temperature is 14 °F (-10 °C).

Operation


- The IceMaker is connected to the water supply.- All air was bled from the waterline before starting the

icemaker. The icemaker will only work if there is no airin the waterline.

Switching on the IceMaker*

drawer is completely closed.Producing ice cubes*The production capacity depends on the freezer tempera-ture. The lower the temperature, the more ice cubes canbe produced in a certain period.The production capacity is 90- 100 ice cubes in 24 hoursat a freezing temperature of 0 °F (-18 °C).To have the maximum capacity of approx. 130 ice cubesin 24 hours, activate the SuperFrost Function. Be awarethat this increases the energy consumption because thecompressor will run constantly.The ice cubes fall out of the IceMaker into the drawer.When the ice cubes reach a certain height in the drawer,no more ice cubes can be produced. The IceMaker willnot fill the drawer to the top.If large quantities of ice cubes are required, the completeIceMaker drawer can be swapped with the neighboringdrawer. When you close the drawer, the IceMaker auto-matically restarts production.When the IceMaker is switched on for the first time, it maytake up to 24 hours for the first ice cubes to be produced.NoteParticles may accumulate in the IceMaker or water linethe first time the appliance is used or after an extendedperiod out of service.u To achieve this, do not consume or use the ice cubes

that are produced within 24 hours.Switching off the IceMaker*If ice cubes are not required, the IceMaker can beswitched off independently of the freezer compartment.When the IceMaker is switched off, the drawer of theIceMaker can also be used for freezing and storing food.u Press the On/Off button for about 1 second until the

6 Maintenance6.1 Defrosting with NoFrostThe NoFrost system defrosts the appliance automatically.Fridge compartment:The defrosted water is evaporated by the heat of thecompressor. Drops of water on the back wall are a func-tional feature and completely normal.u Clean the drain opening regularly so that the defrosted

water can flow away (see 6.2) .Freezer compartment:The moisture condenses on the evaporator and is periodi-cally defrosted and evaporated.u The appliance does not need to be defrosted manually.

6.2 Cleaning the appliance

WARNINGDanger of electric shock.u Unplug refrigerator or disconnect power.

WARNINGRisk of injury or damage due to hot steam.Hot steam can cause scalding/burns and damage tosurfaces.u Do not use steam cleaners.

NOTICEIncorrect cleaning damages the appliance.u Do not use concentrated cleaning agents.u Do not use steel wool or sponges that scour or scratch.u Do not use caustic or abrasive cleaning materials or

those containing sand, chloride, chemicals or acids.u Do not use chemical solvents.u Do not damage or remove the rating plate on the inside

of the appliance. It is vital for the customer servicedepartment.

u Do not pull off, kink or damage any cables or othercomponents.

u Do not let cleaning water get into the drain gutter, theventilation grille and electrical parts.

u Use soft cleaning cloths and a multi-purpose cleaningagent with a neutral pH value.

u Only use food-compatible cleaning and care agentsinside the appliance.

u Empty the appliance.u Disconnect the power plug.

Maintenance


u Clean the plastic surfaces, outside and inside, byhand using lukewarm water and a little dish washingliquid.

u To clean the drain opening:Remove deposits with a thininstrument, e.g. a cotton bud.

u Most of the equipment parts can be dismantled forcleaning: see the respective chapter.

u Clean the roller plates for the vegetable trays in thedishwasher.

u Clean the other fittings by hand using lukewarm waterand a little dish washing liquid.

After cleaning:u Wipe the appliance and accessories dry.u Connect the appliance and switch it on again.u Switch on SuperFrost (see 5.7.4) .

When the temperature is sufficiently cold:u put the food back in the appliance.

6.3 Cleaning the IceMaker*

Fig. 7 The IceMaker must be switched on.u Pull out the drawer and take out the ice.u Clean the drawer with warm water and mild dish deter-

gent.u With the drawer pulled out, press and hold the On/Off

button (for about 10 seconds).w After about 1 second the LED goes out, the IceMaker is

switched off.w After about 10 seconds the LED flashes for about 60

seconds.u Push the drawer in while the LED is flashing.w The ice tray of the IceMaker rotates and tilts.u Take out the drawer.u Clean the ice tray with warm water. If necessary, use a

mild dish detergent. Then rinse.To switch the IceMaker on again:

u Press the ON/OFF button until the LED lights up, thenpush the drawer in.

w The IceMaker starts to produce ice cubes.If dish detergent was used:

u Throw out the first three batches of ice cubes to get ridof any soapy residues.

6.4 Replacing the interior light*Light bulb data

7 TroubleshootingYour appliance is designed and manufactured for reliableoperation and a long lifespan. If a malfunction nonethe-less occurs during operation, please determine if themalfunction is due to an operating error. If a service calldetermines operator error, you will be charged for thecosts incurred, even during the warranty period. You maybe able to rectify the following problems yourself:
