• Expanding the reach of the On the CUSP: STOP CAUTI national collaborative
• Instilling a culture of partnership between emergency departments and in-patient units
• Broadening exposure to national experts

ED Improvement Intervention
Goals: Best practice techniques for CAUTI Prevention
• Technical change (Process): Determine catheter appropriateness
Preventing unnecessary placement
Promoting compliance with institutional guidelines
Promoting proper insertion techniques
• Culture change (CUSP): Teamwork and communication amongst frontline staff
Identify nurse and physician champions for leadership and buy-in
Collaboration with in-patient units

Program Requirements

• Submit baseline, implementation and sustainability data from March 2014 – May 2015 according to a pre-determined schedule.
• Assemble a team, including a team leader (“champion”).
• Meet as a team to monitor performance improvement.
• Attend webinars, calls, and in-person meetings.
• Complete ED questionnaire quarterly, prior to office hours call.
• Share lessons with other units.
Data Requirements
Data Requirements: For each day of data collection, record the following numerator and denominator
Numerator: Number of admissions from the ED, including observation patients with an indwelling catheter that was newly placed in the ED
Denominator: Number of admissions from the ED, including observation patients

• Survey Monkey format
• Identify a point person to complete prior to each office hours call
• Seek input from entire team
• 12 questions addressing catheter insertion, education, alternatives, and barriers
• Answers to questions addressed broadly on the quarterly office hours call
