Salt for the Week
2020 Vision? “Then the eyes of both of them
were opened, and they realized that they
were naked;” (Gen. 3:7)
In this first week of our Lenten journey we’re looking at temptation. Both Adam and Eve in the first reading and then Jesus in the Gospel were tempted… Adam and Eve weren’t as successful as Jesus. The difference?
They didn’t see their FALL RISK. Each and everyone of us are a “fall risk”—none of us are immune or strong enough to conquer temptation on our own. And when we think that we ARE invincible, we’re really in the most dangerous of places!
The Lenten season begins by looking at temptation and the fact that we are all a “fall risk.” We ask for the grace and the humility to recognize our weakness and vulnerabilities—“there but for the grace of God, go I.”
Open my eyes, Lord.
Gospel and Homily Reflections March 1—First Sunday of Lent
What’s my Lenten plan this year? What are areas that I feel weak and
tempted by? Can I admit/name some of my main/
common sins? When was the last time I celebrated
Reconciliation? Why? Can I admit I am a “fall risk”? Where do I need Jesus’ help in my life? How can I develop this “2020 vision”?
Join Us for Our Third Discussion on issues that might touch our lives—Sunday, March 15,
6:30-8:00 p.m. at Ed-Co High School Media Center. Today’s topic is Adverse Childhood
Experiences (ACE)—Mitigating Toxic Stress.

Many Thanks to those who attended the Town Hall Meeting last Sunday. The ideas contributed by parishioners make a huge difference in determining the future direction of St. Mark. We had 51 people in attendance (which was only 11% of the adults in our parish).
Are You a Good Letter Writer? Would you like to read a few really good letters? Bible study will be returning to the St. Mark Parish Center on Thursdays at 8:30 a.m., starting March 5. We will be discussing James, Peter and Jude: The Catholic Letters. EVERYONE is welcome to come and learn how these New Testament letters can help us today. No signup needed! Call Jane Christiansen with any questions (563-920-5967).
We Are Excited to Announce a New Grandparent Ministry Program: Grandparents Matter-Proverbs 17:6—Proverbs 17:6 says: Children's children are the crown of the elderly, and the glory of children is their parents. This new ministry is an effort between St. Mark and several other churches in our community with the goal to connect grandparents and children to share faith and time together. Don't have a grandparent close by or don't have your grandchildren local? That's OK! We invite grandparents or children who would like to participate to give us a call; we'd love to pair you up! We will be holding a date day together every other month; our first program will be held Saturday, March 14, from 9:30-11:00 a.m. We will be holding the program at Lincolnwood to allow residents of Lincolnwood or the Convalescent Home to participate at the level they choose. Please mark the date on your calendars and plan to join us. If you would like to be paired with a grandparent or grandchild, contact Jody Kerns (563-920-4836); we'd love to help you connect! Committee members representing St. Mark include: Jim and Lynn Lueken, Chad and Nikki Funke, Matt and Michelle Venteicher, and Dave and Ann Venteicher. Please feel free to contact any committee member with questions or for more information. We're really excited to provide this time together for families!
St. Mark Prayer Chain—The letters which include the revised St. Mark Prayer Chain have been distributed. We have been informed that there are some mistakes. If you received a letter and you did not sign up for this ministry, if you signed up for this ministry and did not receive a letter, or if the phone number listed is incorrect, please contact Linda Williams (563-590-1524) as soon as possible so she can make corrections. Sorry for any inconvenience; we will correct any mistakes.
