CAREER PATHWAYS
Wilfred Laurier University Health Sciences
Purpose of this Pathway
The purpose of the university pathway is for me to get the post-secondary education I need to become a doctor. I will take the health sciences program so I can get into a specialized school. There are many courses that I would take to ensure that I get to where I want to be.
The health sciences department’s goal is to give its students the approach to study through a combination of biology, chemistry, psychology, math, and applied health courses.
Health Sciences Program
This program is about understanding the complexity of wellness and illness, and it will prepare me for more specialized education so I can get a job as a specialized doctor. It will give me the training to contribute to the health-care industry in Canada.
How the System Works(how long does it take, who runs it, can you live there,
how do you pay for it)
This course takes 4 years to complete. In the health sciences program you must have 20 credits and get above a 6.0 GPA (grade point average)
The head of the Sciences department is Paul Jessop, PhD. And the coordinator of the health sciences department is J. Richard Elliott, PhD.
How Can I Pay for This?To pay for my post-secondary education I am
getting it partially paid for by my parents, but I will have to apply for student loans, work summer jobs and pay it off once I start my actual career.
Financial aid: There is a full range of scholarships and bursaries. Bursaries are a maximum of $2000 and don’t need to be repaid. You can apply to OSAP for a student loan(Ontario Student Assistance Program) roughly half of the students receive loans. Also students may apply for Canada Study Grants, based on financial standing and Academic merits.
OSAP• Loans are interest free• Repayment begins 6
months later• It helps students whose
families have a lower income get an education
