Spring Migrants: Where Do They Go?With the arrival of spring, many of our most colorful birds arrive in the Sierra from the Neotropics including a host of warblers, grosbeaks, tanagers and orioles. We’ll focus on field identification of these “avian butter-flies” and how to tell them apart, including the females, which aren’t as colorful. We’ll also cover the wintering range and habitats of these birds when they go south of our region. Local habits and habitats of these birds will be discussed, as they offer useful clues to accurate field identification, as will their typical songs and calls that may blend confusingly during the dawn chorus. Nevada County Campus N8-1084/10 Tuesday 7-8:30pm#6542 Ted Beedy $45

Birding Hot Spots: Western Nevada CountyWhile birds are everywhere, one can increase one’s chances of finding new and interesting species by knowing where to look. We’ll give a tour of many of the publicly-accessible birding spots used by local birders west of the Sierra Crest in Nevada County. This lecture will be illus-trated by the presenters’ photos of the sites as well as typical and specialty birds to be found there. A field trip sponsored by Sierra Foothills Audubon to view some of the sites will be announced at the class.Nevada County Campus N8-1084/24 Tuesday 7-9pm#6539 Rudy Darling & Ted Beedy $45
