As we embark upon our 25th anniversary, we extend a heartfelt thank you to all those who’ve made the Avera race the record-breaking event it is today.

cAring for community
For the past 25 years, Avera Prince of Peace has served the community by providing quality care guided by Christian values. As we continue to further our dedication to the aging population, advances in medical technology and increased demands for elder care have set the tone for an exciting project to expand and improve the current facility. We are pleased to share details and concepts and would like to thank those who have already made gifts to support this much anticipated expansion.

focus on giving
THe Journey ContinuesIn 2011, Avera McKennan Hospital & University Health
Center embarked upon its Second Century of Caring. in celebration of the first planned gift by Helen McKennan in
1911, the Avera McKennan Foundation launched a planned giving campaign symbolically called “one-Hundred for
100.” This campaign is designed to recognize planned gifts of the past and to inspire gifts for the future. Thank you to
everyone who is supporting the “one Hundred for 100” Planned Giving Campaign.
Growing up in Chelsea, Massachusetts, Fran Coppla would’ve never dreamed she would eventually live in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. It was a handsome serviceman named Jim Foss who brought her here after they were married. Fran spent forty-six years with her husband, whom she spoiled with her home-cooked Italian cuisine. With no children of their own, she loved spending time cooking and being the payroll manager at Sioux Falls Construction.
In 1993, Jim needed hospice care. Fran became friends with the Avera home hospice team while she cared for him. She was very grateful for their help and often reflected that she didn’t know what she would’ve done without them. Fran was especially thankful for their deep concern and compassion after Jim passed away. She wanted to give back to the program that helped her through such a difficult time, so she made the decision to include Avera hospice in her estate planning.
This past year, Fran needed hospice care. Thankfully, the compassionate hospice caregivers were there for her when she needed them. Fran received home hospice care in July 2012 and then moved into the Dougherty Hospice House in December. She had toured the facility a few years ago and was grateful there was a room available when she could no longer be at home. Fran passed away in January 2013, and we thank her for her legacy of giving.
You can Leave a Legacy Todaygifts have sustained and furthered the gospel values and healing mission of Avera McKennan Hospital for over a century. Please contact Robin Prunty, vice president of the Avera McKennan Foundation, at (605) 322-8833 to get started today.
