Principal’s Message: Thank you to everyone who has submitted their 2013-2014 student registration materials. Having the materials submitted in a timely manner allows us to make accurate class placements and determine staffing needs for the upcoming school year. During the last few weeks of school, we will begin placing children into classes for the following school year. Class placement is a decision that is made by the current grade level teachers, special edu- cation, special area teachers and the principal. These teachers sit down together and make up equitable class lists. They take into consideration a child’s learning style, personality and other pertinent characteristics of that child. Attention is also given to maintaining equal numbers of boys and girls as well as combinations of individual children that will be conducive to creating a positive learning environment. Preliminary class lists are developed with no teacher assignment. With this in mind, a “Parent Input for Student Placement” form was sent home with your child last Friday. If you feel that you have any specific information you would like to provide to help us in placing your child, please fill out the form and return it to the front office by April 8, 2013. You only need to fill out the form if you have a concern or something that you think needs to be taken into consideration. Please do not request a specific teacher. Standardized Testing: On Monday, April 15, the standardized testing period will begin. The Stanford Assessment Test (SAT 10) will be administered to second grade over a three-day period. Third, fourth and fifth grade students will take the Ari- zona Instrument to Measure Standards (AIMS). Please review the schedule below and use it as a reference dur- ing our testing week. Notification of Pest Control

State Law (House Bill 2135, Chapter 102) requires the school district to notify parents, legal guardians, and employees 48 hours prior to pest/weed control treatments.

In accordance with these requirements, Essential Pest, vendor for pesticide treatment, will visit our school once month to inspect building exteriors, kitchen areas, and restrooms, and to perform pest control treatments of those areas, as required. Our current pest control program does not include pesticide applications inside classrooms. Such applications are performed only if infestation occurs. Essential Pest will treat Canyon View on the third Tuesday of each month.

Additional information may be obtained from the Environmental Health and Safety Office at the district office at 299-6446.

Lunch Money Accounts

As the end of the school year is getting closer, if you will be leaving the school district at the end of this school year, it would be very helpful if you could use the money you have left on your lunch account before May 21, 2013. For seniors, we will not be accepting any more pre-payments as of April 12th, and we would appreciate it if you could use your lunch money before you graduate. If you feel that you will not have enough money to last until the end of the school year, please do not replenish your account, but pay with cash instead. Thank you very much for your assistance with this. Your help is appreciated. !
