Dear Penguin Families,
Soon our intermediate students
(grades 3-5) will be tackling the
Measurement of Student Pro-
gress (MSP). This is the state
assessment that measures our
students’ knowledge of grade
level state standards. 3rd grad-
ers will test in math and reading
(May 5 and 6); 4thgraders test
in reading, math and writing
(May 5, 6, 8 & 15); and 5th tests
in math, science, and reading,
(April 29, May 1, 12, 13, 15 and
22). 5th graders will be taking
their reading test on-line, as
the state is phasing in computer
testing rather than paper-
pencil. Please avoid any ab-
sences or appointments during
this testing period if possible.
Next year the state of Wash-
ington will transition to the new
Common Core State Standards
that will be assessed with the
Smarter Balanced Assessment.
More information about the
Common Core can be found on
our district webpage, and will be
addressed next fall.
Please note that we are now ac-
cepting boundary applications
for students living within Camas
School District. You must reap-
ply yearly, as we must first en-
roll students within our Prune
Hill boundaries before deter-
mining if there is room for any
additional students. Students
living outside the Camas School
District must also reapply, but
will not be placed in class-rooms until August.
If you have, or know any upcom-
ing kindergarteners coming to
Prune Hill next fall, please
spread the word that our Kin-
dergarten Orientation will be
held Wednesday, May 28 at
2:00 in the Prune Hill gym! This
is an opportunity to get a gen-
eral overview of school for both
parents and kindergarteners.
We will provide a lesson and bus
ride for the kids while us grown-
ups talk in the gym and take a
tour of Prune Hill Elementary.
It’s a great introduction to pub-
lic school and we hope to see
lots of new faces!
Sincerely,
Julie Swan

This event is an opportunity for girls and boys to learn about the world of work, the challenges their parents face, and how the school
work they do today will help them in their future. If you are planning to participate in the event, please fill out the permission slip below and return by Wednesday, April 23, 2014. I have permission to participate in Take Your Child to Work Day from my parent. I understand that I will receive an excused absence, but
will have to make up any work that will be covered in class on that day. Student Name Teacher

and patience helps us get through this time period.

Papermaker Preschool Papermaker Preschool -- Enrollment for Fall 2014Enrollment for Fall 2014--15 15 is Open!is Open!
Camas High School’s Papermaker Preschool is open to children who are four years of age by August 31, 2014. Part time sessions are available, and the fee is $300 per month. Our integrated preschool follows the Camas School District Calendar.
If you have any questions regarding our program or would like to schedule a visit, please call the Career & Tech-nical Education Office at 833-7258.
If you would like to register your child, please call Shanna Nielson or Becky Stauffer at 833-5410 to schedule a registration appointment. Registration materials are available online at www.camas.wednet.edu under Parent Corner. Reg-istration applications are also available for pick up at the Dis-trict Office, located at 841 NE 22nd Ave.
MSP Testing
Testing schedule is April 29
through May 22 for third, fourth
and fifth graders. Please try not to
schedule optional appointments or
family trips during this time. Taking
the assessment with the whole
class is easier on children. Making
up parts of the test missed during
an absence means your child will
miss activities and instruction while
they are taking the assessment.
