SANTA TREGA MOUNTAIN Artistic Historic Monument and BIC (Cultural Interest Asset, declaration for the protected historic heritage in Spain) GALAICO-ROMAN VILLAGE_ is one of the most signifi cant examples of the Castrexo Culture of the

Northwest Iberian peninsula. Of an early era stand out the petroglyphs (rock carvings). MASAT, Archaeological Museum of Santa Trega_ located at the top of the mountain. It keeps the remains

found in the numerous excavation campaigns and displays two different collections: Castrexo and Roman. The museum is closed on Mondays.

HERMITAGE OF SANTA TREGA_ 12th century building with later renovations. Interesting cruceiro (stone cross) with San Francisco fi gure.

Highlight_ the cultural richness of the Mountain renowned as Artistic Historic Monument and BIC. The breathtaking scenic views from the two peaks of the Mountain looking at the Miño river estuary and mouth, A Guarda municipality with its colorfully seafarer houses, neighbouring Portugal and the immensity of the Atlantic ocean. The marked footpaths network PR-G 122 Camiños do Trega (Footpaths of the Trega) allows to discover the environment in detail.

NATURAL SPACES MIÑO RIVER ESTUARY_ is one of the most

important wetlands in the Iberian peninsula due to ecological and natural values. It is protected as Special Protection Area for Birds (SPA) and is part of the Natura 2000 Network. The Birdwatching Route goes along the estuary and part of atlantic coastal, with bird observatories and informative panels.

BEACHES_ sea beaches as Area Grande, Fedorento and O Carreiro. They are small beaches standing out by its iodised oceanic waters. The river beaches along the last two kilometres of the river delta: O Codesal, A Armona, A Lamiña and O Muíño. They are bounded by a pine wood providing a pleasant ambiance with picnic & leisure areas.

HIKING TRAILS_ they allow to know A guarda and its surrondings: PR-G160 Ruta da Desembocadura do Miño (Miño river Mouth Path) runs along the bank of the river and part of the Atlantic coastal, this route continues along the sealine by the Senda Litoral (Littoral Pathway), from O Muíño beach until the fi shing port. And towards north going on the coastline connects with the Cetareas Route. Santa Trega Mountain has the PR-G122 Camiños do Trega (Footpaths of Trega). The Blue Path links the beaches distinguished with the Blue Flag, Area Grande & O Muíño, by a 5.6 kilometres tour.

CASTLE OF SANTA CRUZBien de Interés Cultural (Cultural Interest Asset, declaration for the protected historic heritage in Spain) Is part of the strongholds system built during

the Portuguese Restoration War in the last stretch of the Miño river. This fortress with an irregular polygon plant and four bastions was declared Bien de Interés Cultural. The walled was restored and can be visited as public space all of the week. Inside is placed the Cross-border Fortresses Interpretation Center (opened on weekends and holidays) that displays an exhibition of the defense structures built in the 17th century.

FISHING PORT THE PORT_ stands out as a lively meeting point with varied attractions: promenades, parks, museum and

small urban beaches. Without forgetting that preserves its fi shing character. The south dock is the place from where the fi shermen’s daily work preparing their rigging and the boats can be observed, and also their exit and arrival to the seaport. We can attend the seafood and fi sh sale in the fi sh market too.

MUSEUM OF THE SEA (WATCHTOWER)_ at the end of the promenade is located the round fortress rebuilt in 1997, the original one dated in 17th century. Housed the Museum of the Sea with an ethnographic seafarer exhibition and an important malacological collection (seashells). The Museum is opened the weekends and holidays.

Standing out_ at the port the panoramic view offered by the colorfully and narrow seafarer houses, the monuments dedicated to the fi shermen and their life & work and the Malteses street , the most representative seafaring lane with the tight houses that connected straight away with the sea by their patio.

URBAN CENTER INDIANOS’ HOUSES ROUTE_ shows part of

the colonial buildings located in the downtown. These dwellings were built in the second half of the 19th century and early 20th by some returned emigrants of A Guarda from Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic and Brazil. They are showy buildings that adopted the most signifi cant architectural structures of the american country.

CULTURAL CENTRE_ the greatest example of Indianos’ Architecture. Built in 1921 thanks to the collaboration of returned emigrants and destined to be a hospital and shelter. After the 1990 refurbish became the current Cultural Center. It housed the Municipal Library, a exhibitions hall and an events room.

COMMERCIAL AREA_ Its streets inviting to walk them around and meet the wide and interesting range of shops. On the way down to the fi shing port we fi nd the Plaza de Abastos (Market), offering fresh and quality products in the mornings (except Sundays). Those who enjoy shopping, have the weekly market (Saturday morning) in Coruña and RosalÍa de Castro streets.

OLD TOWN In the fi shing port is placed the Convent of the

Benedictines , by a steep staircase we get Colón street , this ancient street with medieval origins which links the port and the old town. Part of the ancient Medieval Wall is preserved in Muro street and Ireira street. In the Praza do Reló (Clock Square) is located the Council (Local Police and Tourist Information Offi ce), the Alonsos’ House and the Torre do Reló (Clock Tower), ancient medieval tower. Furthermore can be enjoyed some examples of Indianos’ Houses can be seen. In short distance is located the Parish Church of Saint Mary .

FERRYBOAT A GUARDA - CAMINHA (PORTUGAL) Connects A Guarda and Caminha (Portugal) with a 10 minutes trip. Sets sail from the O Pasaxe pier on half hours and on the dot from Caminha (Portugal). Buses and coaches are allowed. To get timetables and information, contact by phone (986 61 15 26).BUS SERVICE BETWEEN A GUARDA AND VIGO ATSA is the buses company that connects A Guarda with Vigo, either by the coast road (towards Oia and Baiona) or by the inland towards Tui with a higher frequency. The timetables are different depending if you’re travelling a working day, Saturday, Sunday or holiday. Besides are also different in summer or winter season.
