Prior to the general meeting, Bob Smith was proposed and approved as Chair of the Safe-ty and Security Committee by Board majority (5 members present).

Lesley Gill called the meeting to order and greeted all in attendance. She also thanked last year’s Board for their work and thanked Traci Smith for work done on the spa and new securi-ty gate. Bob Smith has now been approved as Chair of Safety and Security – as he was unable to attend today, Larry Gill will speak for him.

Sea Oaks Manager’s Q & A: Traci Smith • If possible, residents were asked to let Lesley Gill or Traci Smith know in advance of any questions to be posed so that Traci has time to do any necessary research. • It was asked whether residents must be over 55 to own a home here – yes, but a certain percentage of younger residents is allowed legally. Caretakers under 55 are a separate issue. • Residents can rent their property, but potential renters would have to be approved by the office. The unit would also permanently lose rent control status. • It was suggested that a second dog poop dispenser be installed in another location. The of-fice is currently paying for the bags. It was mentioned that nonresidents may be allowing their dogs to run loose, Traci Smith asked to be notified, as all dogs must be leashed. • There were questions about erosion and large amounts of pine needles and wood in com-mon areas – a fire hazard. Traci Smith will check this out. • Potholes – please contact the office to report these. • A gardener was hired starting this month, to come in twice a month to help take care of common areas. Felix is still here. There will be new planting on the central island at the en-trance. • The back common area will be improved by putting down concrete and installing new tables and chairs. • The spa was redone, but there is a leak, which is still being investigated. Remodeling will be started – the wall of the spa building facing the office will be removed. • The shelving display unit currently in the billiards room will be removed. Brochures can instead be displayed in a wall pocket unit which will be provided by management. Traci Smith then left the meeting.

Treasurer’s Report: Jim McCallum. Balance as of December 1, 2017 = $1,193.03. Income received = $176.00: Christmas Party. Expenses = $373.86: $8.61 Welcome Committee Bind-ers, $365.25 Christmas Party (Morro Bay Choir $100, late signups $120, Food and Supplies $145.25). Ending balance December 31, 2017 = $995.17. Annual dues are now due.

Bingo: Lynn Vandiver. The spaghetti dinner was well attended.

Carport Sale: Lolly Traxler. The Committee will meet in March for further discussions.

SEA OAKS RESIDENTS’ ASSOCIATION MINUTES OF MEETING

January 2, 2018Sea Oaks Clubhouse: 3pm

Page 5: C6 sea oaks

Sea Oaks Residents Association - January, 2018 3

Library: Susan Ridgway. The library frequently receives large donations of books or maga-zines, often including old magazines and books not of general interest. New material is always welcome, but space is limited. Excess books then have to be moved to storage (for carport sale) or donated to libraries, thrift stores etc. by the librarian. Residents should take their un-wanted books to these locations.

Out to Lunch Bunch: Jane Tripp. These lunches will now take place on the second Monday of the month. The January event will be at The Galley in Morro Bay.

Safety and Security: Larry Gill substituting for Bob Smith. CERT training starts on Janu-ary 16, held at Morro Bay Community Center. He has some flyers; the cost is $40, payable by the participants. The park units are divided into seven groups and leaders will try and obtain information on any special emergency evacuation needs. Virginia Houts pointed out that the free calendar distributed to all residents includes extremely useful information and phone numbers for emergency situations. The recent power outage was discussed, only a few people received a PG&E notification by phone or text message. Residents can sign up for notification in such events – check the web site.

Sea Scoop: Pamela Powers. Everything is in order.

Social: Fran Coye. The next event is the Super Bowl on February 4. The Christmas party had ten unexpected last minute signups, which meant calling for more food. Don Coye is co-chair.

Sunshine: We still need someone for this position. Sharon Deos sent a card to Jim and Rita McCallum. An email thank you was sent to the singers at the Christmas party.

Welcome: Helen Honeycutt and Jane Tripp. Sallie Davisson in 150 has been welcomed. There will be a new resident in 136, Maureen Renta. A new tenant will be moving into Unit 143, which is a rental.

GSMOL: Helen Honeycutt. AB1269 made it to the Governor’s desk, and was vetoed as he felt it was not well funded. This would have allowed disputes between owners and residents to be settled by arbitration instead of in court, involving lawyers’ fees. Helen Honeycutt pointed out that the current Board of Supervisors (regardless of political affiliation) is not very friendly to mobile home residents. Keep this in mind when voting for any candidate, again regardless of party. Everyone is encouraged to join GSMOL, which helps protect our interests. There is strength in numbers at State government level.

Old Business: Virginia Houts discussed the sewer charges. Our current objective is still to try and have the charges based on individual usage rather than the average of all residents. The parties concerned (Golden State, SLO County, ELS) will not intervene or assist. The Safety and Security Chair has been chosen. A volunteer is still required for Sunshine Com-mittee. Stop signs are still too low. The red curbs recently repainted are still not very visible, they need to be a brighter red and extended further. The Fire Chief has verified that there is enough room for emergency vehicles to get through. Sharon Deos raised the question of how

Sea Oaks Residents Association - February, 2018 4

Welcome February! It was so nice to see so many of you at our first S.O.R.A. meet-ing of 2018! Our meetings are very informative and a great way to meet fellow residents. Together our committees have been working hard on all the issues brought to us, including emergency preparedness, more parking spaces, safety white lines at all stop signs, an additional pet area at the front of the park and those pesky potholes that keep popping up like moles in a wack-a-mole game! As for our committees, I am happy to report we have a lovely addition to our chairs. Cheryl Bariel, spc 173 has volunteered to be our Sunshine Chairperson! Being the ray of sunshine she is, we are very lucky to have her join our team.

Our events continue to be fun and well attended! Give them a try if you haven’t had a chance, I know I’m looking forward to a big BINGO WIN this year! Finally: Live everyday to its fullest. Remember to stop and smell the roses, even if you sneeze. Help those who need help. And always share your beautiful smile!Lesley GillPresident

curent parking spaces were decided, and whether more could be designated. Virginia Houts and Lesley Gill will go over the map of the park to see where improvements could be made.

New Business: The birthday listings that appear in Sea Scoop were discussed. We do not have a complete list of these, and some residents would prefer not to have it listed. It was voted that we combine the Happy Hour with a birthday celebration for that month.Virginia Houts said that the Safety and Security Committee will need storage space and will speak to Traci Smith about this when the back area is redone. The meeting was adjourned at 4:26pm.

Happy Birthday to all residents born in the month of February

Please let Sharon Deos know the month and day of your birth. Email her at [email protected] or call her at 951-452-4562

February is the month of Aquarius moving in to Pisces. These are the ‘outlaw’ signs who are individual, like to break the rules, eschew authority and march to their own drummer. This month you may get an offer that seems too good to be true. It probably is. Wait til March or so to see the reality of the situation. Aries - All seems to be going well, but there could be someone behind the scenes making moves. Taurus: You don’t like change, Tauri, and now your foundation can seem a little unsolid. That’s ok. It will pass shortly.Gemini: See what creative energies come up during this time that you could relate to your job or church or other groups you belong to. Make it special.Cancer: Probably not a good month to take a trip. Someone at church may not be seeing things clearly. Leo: You could be promised an inheritance or some other financial windfall. Don’t go spend-ing it until it’s tangibly in your bank account!Virgo: Your second child can be doing ‘a song & dance act’ s/he’s trying to pull over on you to get what s/he wants. You might want to say “I didn’t fall off the turnip truck yesterday!” :)Libra: Apply your creativity and sense of style to something original and stand back and recive the accolades. Scorpio: Your ‘kids’ can be up to something, regardless of their age. Read between the lines. Sag: For all your interest in education and travel, this is a good time of year to hunker down and recharge your batteries before takig off again. Capricorn: Pay attention to the political shenanigans going on in the community. Read between the lines. Aquarius: Even tho passbook interest is practically nil, don’t consider putting your money in something that will give you more return until you have someone you trust check it out. Pisces: This is your time of year, Pisces, so revel in the energy and let those creative juices flow. You might also get some original ideas you could develop. You and Aquarius see with a different perspective.

Sea Oaks Residents Association - February, 2018 13

It’s 2018 and the “Calm” has Risen” to its second season. It follows the same structure as last year: every second Saturday we’ll see a worthy foreign film; every third Thurs-day we’ll show a winning movie in English. Here is the first half of the year’s entries. I am leaving from July on open, hoping our audience sees the opportunity to make some recommendations for the second half of the season. I do know for sure that there will be a once a month “field trip” to the “Pretend Calm” on their Monday night cheap price ticket night. We’ll simply see what is playing the last Monday in a month, who wants to go and who can drive if needed. We’ll also end “Semester 1” with a June potluck. Here we go:

February: Saturday, 10th, 6:30: POSTMEN IN THE MOUNTAINS , (Chinese) Thursday, 15th, 2:00: SEDUCING DR. LEWIS, (Canadian)March: Saturday, 10th, 6:30: 4 MINUTES, (German)

Bowling Fun at Daisy Hill! The SEA OAKS HOT SHOTS (sometimes not that hot) have just started their third season of WII Bowling at Daisy Hill. This is great fun as we play for about 90 minutes just with our team and the tv computer. We yell, we laugh, we scream and we do say some ‘bad words’ but the fun is never- ending.

Season Two ended wtih a big success for Lucille Gash as she was named “Most Im-proved Bowler” in the league of 9 teams. AND the Sea Oaks Hot Shots which is Fran and Don Coye, Diana Alvarado and Lucille Gash received another award on the bowling Party Banquet - the OOPS award - and a trophy -- for the lowest or worst scoring team in the league for Season Two!!!. But our motto is - we can only get better!! Daisy Hill has been so nice to include us in their league and they are open to any other Sea Oaks Teams that would like to join. The cost is $10.00 for 9 weeks of play and this in-cludes a dinner at the end of the season. You can pick any day that is available to play - we play Tuesdays from 11-12:30 - but they are open 7 days a week to play. No experience neces-sary. You can play standing up or sitting down. It is played with a controller in your hand and you just have to swing your hand and let go of the buttons - not the controller - as that would hit their TV!! If interested, you can let me know and I can give you contact info at Daisy Hill. It is a four person team but I can help you put a team together if you can’t find other team-mates. Great fun - and yes we should get a trophy for the loudest team. Fran Coye #109

The Miracle

The day was bright, the sun shone fair;

I saw a rainbow in my hair!

A single strand against the sky,

Myriad colors near my eye.

Numberless and flaming free,

a miracle, just for me.

Together

There the night, pale and waning

as though the dawn approached,

but never did it;

for you and the night and Iwere one,

and darkness covered all,forever.
