Butterflies Blurbs – Round 1

Butterflies U8’s – Modies

We all had to dust off the winter woolies for the early 8.30am timeslot on Saturday Morning - it was freezing!! The girls & parents were excited to have season 2011 underway...there were nerves as we waited to see if the weather held out and surprisingly it did...let’s hope this good fortune continues for the season.

The little butterflies are like a different team than

last year - they were moving the ball down the court with the greatest of ease & their shooting nothing less than amazing. All the girls played so well and had a convincing 15-0 win over the saints (in defence of the other team it was their first ever game). Both the defence & attack were great.

Big congrats to Jemma who put on a perfect

shooting display (she shot about 5 goals) and the look of surprise each time she got one got better & better. Jemma is the inaugural winner of our girl of the game trophy. Congratulations Jemma. Looking forward to next week.

Butterflies U9’s – Modies What a game!!!!! The much anticipated beginning of the netball

season was a triumph for all. Friday night and Saturday morning saw the usual rain and it was with trepidation that the girls got dressed with the thought in the back of their minds will we play or not. Luckily the showers held off. Heffron was its usual chaos of parking that is, anywhere you can find a spot. The excitement was felt by all the girls and parents alike. The game began and went to the oppositions end, but the Butterflies retrieved the ball back and set it flying to our end and that was the beginning of the end. The Butterflies defence was unstoppable thanks to Elyse and Poppy who made it impossible for the other team to score a goal. On the attack we had goals by Ella, Chloe and Holly. We welcome back Abi and also hope that Genevieve and Jemima enjoyed their first experience of netball. Well done to the whole team their overall defence by all players was fantastic. Our player of the match was Holly, congratulations, keep up the good work. Can’t wait for next week.

Butterflies U10’s A huge welcome back and congratulations to

the u10 butterflies for their gallant efforts against the all stars in the pouring rain.

Each player showed determination and

resilience, continuing the fight right to the last whistle.

Super coach Jenny guided and directed the girls

throughout the game and has identified areas to work on in coming weeks.

Their broad smiles and positive attitudes

despite the conditions are a true reflection of how much this team loves playing together.

Girl of the game was presented to Zoe for her

excellent defence - well done.

Butterflies Under 12’s

What a wonderful start to the season! Our 12's

team returned to 2011 playing Division 1, with a

great win against Mascot, 27 to 9.

We welcome Sara Downey back to our team

after a years break but she played like she has

never left.

The girls played so well together and showed

what a great team they are.

We are looking forward to a successful season

ahead. If they play each week like they did on

Saturday we should have a very competitive race

to the finals!

Butterflies U13’s Blue 13's Blue hit the ground running on Saturday (putting their training into

practice) and defeated the Coogee Dolphins 42-8. The score reflected the low error rate of our girls and the accuracy of their shooting, notably Brooke Emerson scoring 25 out of 35 attempts. She was well supported in the shooting circle by Holly Mori and Sarah McCormick, with Emma McGuigan, Caitlin Duffus and Montana Walters providing excellent drive in attack and close defence through the centre court.

Our defenders were strong throughout the game and had plenty of work to

do, the low score of the opposition credit to Sinead Docherty and Shanelle Peeti who picked up lots of loose ball and spectacular intercepts.

Shanelle Peeti is the player of the week as she showed great leadership as Captain and in leading the warm up. Shanelle played a strong, efficient game with a smile on her face throughout the match.

A big special thanks to Tatum Sinclair-Harris who stepped up to fill in for

Jenny's 14's team, who were short of players, showing great club spirit. Looking forward to round 2.

Butterflies U13’s Purple

What a brilliant way to start the season. With the weather not knowing whether it was going

to rain or shine we were all on tender hooks, but it mostly held off for a great game. It was

fantastic to see how well everyone gelled and worked together. As I was scoring, I had the

other team manager next to me. He was telling me that they had a couple of new team

members and consequently they were not being passed the ball much. We certainly didn't have

that problem with our group. The girls worked together as though they'd been doing so for

seasons.

Despite the strong wind, the girls passed really well and those lobs had enough power to flit

from butterfly to butterfly rather than be pushed by the wind. Emer was especially on fire,

moving well around her part of the court, fighting for the ball and never giving up. Ellie also

had a great game and is awarded player of the week for her great goal shooting, intercepting

and rebounds.

In the first two quarters we scored 11 goals, and held them off to nil. The last two quarters

Dina played around with the girls, letting them play in various positions, and we scored 4 goals

to their 6. So the final score was 15-6.

So, good work, girls, keep it up!

Butterflies Inters – Purple

The Inters looked like they were having way too much fun in the first half of the

match against Randwick Rugby 13 last Saturday. Maybe it had something to do with the

fact that the vast majority of their opponents were also friends off the court???

Whatever!!! But…..the score line at half time at 11-3 (Randwicks’ way) was enough to

fire up our girls into really playing top quality netball.

The Inters crawled their way back into the third quarter, nudging ahead by three,

four, five, six goals, only to have Randwick Rugby sneak back up again. It was left to a

fantastic defence team of Amy, Grace, Holly, Jaci, Kate and Elli, keeping the opponent’s

goals to a bare minimum. Of course, our brilliant goal shooters –Alex and Brenna -

were instrumental in just popping those goals in just when the team needed them!

A very warm welcome to Grace and Amy who have joined the Inters team. Also, Girl

of the Game was Kate Solomonson. Congratulations Kate.

Congratulations girls on a cliff hanger game – it was nail biting, absolutely

exhilarating and entirely entertaining! With the final score 23 - 22 Butterflies way.

Looking forward to your game this week against Randwick Rugby 12.

Go Butterflies!!!

Butterflies U14’s

What a fantastic start to the season for the 14’s. Our first time in playing together as a team, all girls need to be praised for their consistent

efforts this week.

Up against Randwick Rugby with mostly representative players, our Butterflies girls hung in till the end.

A huge thanks to Tatum for playing up from the 13’s and to our girl of

the game,

Girl of the Game went to Rosie for some very skilful defence!!!

Defeated by Randwick 37– 18.
