Growing up on a farm with a ranch component, once or twice a year we would move cattle - always across a busy highway. It became an event where all the neighbors with horses would show up to demonstrate their cowboy skills. Now some of the farmers had not ridden their horse since the year be- fore. Sometimes it was like a rodeo as the neglected horses did not like their rough day of work. The partnership with the neighbors was one of the most valuable times of friendships and fellowship, especially around the cowboy lunch pre- pared by the host family. Ranches in our area still have that partnership with some of their neighbors and it still works. In the Christian faith, part- nerships are more important as the benefits not only help today but may have eternal returns. I believe the Baptist Association can be one of the greatest part- nership components to the Christian life. As a teenager my family tried to attend 20 meet- ings of the Plains Baptist Asso- ciation in Curry County, New Mexico. My Mom and Dad took the entire family to 10 regular Baptist Associational meetings and 10 Baptist Youth Rallys. The focus of my family and my home church at the time was connected to the Baptist Asso- ciation. I found connections to Christians in most every church that was a part of the partnership. The Kingdom of God is not built on a Lone Ranger type of process. Pastors and churches that go it alone are not following the Biblical pattern as God calls His Church to love one another and to work together in building the Kingdom of God. Missionar- ies like Paul and Silas, brought a connection of all the churches they touched to focus on each other. I may not be the greatest missionary; however, my goal is to build partnerships with indi- viduals and churches in order to strengthen God’s Kingdom. What about you? Are you ready to strengthen the partnership found in association with other churches? I think there is still value in the association. You could be a part of the partnership of unity in building the Kingdom of God right where you are!
