    Josh Allen vs Indianapolis Colts.

The Buffalo Bills hard-ly resembled a Super Bowl team in their 27-24 win over the Indianapo-lis Colts last Saturday in Orchard Park. The Colts dominated the game with possession in Buffalo ter-ritory on all nine of their drives except for a kneel down at the end of the first half. but the Bills showed how dangerous they are by scoring on their oppor-tunities while their oppo-nents did not. The Colts failed to get points on two of their drives in the red zone. In fact drives that halted at the Bills 4, 12 and 15, produced only three points for the Colts Baltimore head coach Frank Reich decided with the ball on the four yard line late in the second quarter to go for the TD rather than kick a filed goal. The decision was sound from the viewpoint that you cannot beat the Bills with field goals be-cause Buffalo is proficient at scoring touchdowns. You need to get the seven points to keep pace with the Bills attack. And if you miss the Bills have to go the length of the field to score. When the attempt failed, Josh Al-len engineered a 96 yard touchdown drive to give the Bills a 14-10 lead. Reich’s decision to go for a two point conversion in the fourth quarter, af-ter scoring a touchdown to make it a 24-16 game backfired when they failed to convert. The al-

most certain one point from the conversion kick, plus the lost field goal, would have provided four points to the Colts in a game where they lost by three. Kicker Tyler Bass is a deadly weapon. His 54 yard filed goal set a rook-ie record for the longest FG in NFL playoff histo-ry. He made two FG’s in the game and has made 17 consecutive kicks with many from 50+ yards. In a battle of rookie kickers Bass out dueled Colts kicker Rodrigo Blankenship had an opportunity early in the third quarter to cut the Bills lead to four hit the right upright. The mo-mentum swung to the Bills and they went on a long drive into the fourth quarter and scored on a bomb from quarterback Josh Allen to wide receiv-er Stefon Diggs.

Blankenship was two for four making his sort kicks from the 22 and 24 but missed from 56 yards right before halftime as well as hitting the post. He finished fifth in NFL scoring among kickers with 139 points. And then there is Josh Allen who has basically been carrying the offense

on his shoulders. After a slow start he caught fire and finished the game with 26 completions on 35 attempts for 324 yards, an average of 9.26 yards per attempt, and two passing touchdowns. He was also the teams best runner with 11 carries for 54 yards and one rushing touchdown. And no turn-overs. His passer rating of 121.6 is the third high-est ever in a Bills’ playoff game. His 74.3 completion percentage is the highest ever in a Bills post season game. Next up is the Balti-more Ravens who will present a much tougher test for the Bills with QB Lamar Jackson and his running off their option plays. The Bills led the NFL in completions (190) and yards (2,303) to the left and right sidelines in the regular season. Allen’s arm allows him to reach receivers 25 yards down-field and along the side-line. Stefon Diggs and Gabriel Davis are like acrobats keeping both feet in bounds on sideline passes.Safety Micah Hyde broke up three passes against the Colts on Saturday. This included the game ending Hail Mary in ad-dition to seven combined tackles. He will play an important role in contain-ing Jackson and the Ra-vens option game

The Bills and Ravens are similar teams, almost evenly matched. Allen’s deep passing ability and the athleticism of the Bills secondary gives them a slim edge.

Dear Rusty: I’m 63 and still working, and I receive Social Security benefits. Because of COVID-19 my employer has been giving us a $300 bonus, every 3 months. This will be $1,200 for the year and it will put me over the $18,240 earn-ings limit for this year. My question is, since these bo-nuses are COVID-19 relat-ed are they still considered earned income? My second question is, if I go over the limit does Social Security stop my check, even if it might be a portion of the check? Signed: Working During COVID-19 Dear Working: Whether your 2020 earnings (and those bonuses) put you over the annual earnings limit will depend upon how the bonuses are reported on your Federal income tax return (or your W-2 if you aren’t required to file). Your employer will send your W-2 earnings to the IRS which will, in turn, in-form Social Security of your earnings. Social Security compares your 2020 W-2 earnings to the earnings

Ask Rusty - Do COVID-19 Bonuses Count Toward the Earnings Limit?

Patronize our Advertisers! limit to see if you exceeded the allowable limit. In oth-er words, how your employ-er defines those COVID-19 bonuses and reports it to the IRS determines wheth-er SS will count them to-ward the earnings limit. You should check with your employer’s Human Re-sources department to see if your COVID-19 bonuses will be considered as tax-able earnings reportable on your W-2. If you exceed the limit, and you don’t inform Social Security in advance that you did, they won’t know about it until they receive your W-2 information from the IRS (sometime next year, after you file your in-come taxes). They will then send you a notification that you exceeded the limit and tell you how much you owe them, and they will want to recover $1 for every $2 you are over the limit (half of what you exceed the limit by). They’ll give you the op-tion to repay what they con-sider to be an overpayment in one lump sum, request a repayment plan or to have your SS benefits withheld

for as many months as it takes for them to recover what you owe. Note they only withhold full months of benefits, not partial, so you could go several months without collecting any SS benefits until they recover what is owed. The money they with-hold because you exceeded the limit is not lost forev-er, because when you reach your full retirement age (66 ½ if you turned 63 in 2020) they will give you time credit for any months they withheld benefits. That means they will move your effective claim date forward by the number of months benefits were with-held, which will result in a small increase in your ben-efit amount. But you’ll get that higher benefit for the rest of your life, enabling you to eventually recover the money they withheld because you exceeded the limit. And for information, during the year you reach your full retirement age (FRA) the limit goes up and the penalty is less, and once you reach your FRA there is no longer a limit to how much you can earn while collecting benefits.

Much to my surprise my wife suggested Chinese food for dinner. She is not a big fan of Chinese food, excuse me, Asian Food. We have been ordering out more than usual since be-ing down here is Florida. The restaurants are open to full capacity and seem to be doing well. It is the season! We had a couple of bad dinners lately so her thoughts were how wrong can you go with Chinese? Not completely true as they do not all follow the same rules. In past years we have been patronizing a close take out restaurant that specializes in Chinese food called “Jeff’s”. Jeff was a Chinese fellow who came here from China and had an American wife. In the beginning, his wife took the orders and he did the cook-ing. Last year before he an-nounced his retirement, he had all kinds of employees

and a line out the door. No quick turn around like in most establishment of this kind. Got to know Jeff, over the years, however on my last visit, he was nowhere near the front counter. I did ask for him once and he came out to say hello. Told me he had enough and was calling it quits. So now where do we go for Chinese? Asked “Siri” on my phone and she direct-ed me to a new place close to where we live, called “Let’s Eat”. Found out lat-er it was the same location as Jeff’s old place. I called in the order only to find the prices were quite high com-pared to places up in good old New York. Example: up north I have Chinese for lunch at least once a week. Triple Delight, beef, shrimp and chicken with vegetables is my favorite. Cost for lunch, $5.63. Here for the same thing and not as good, $14.95. Seemed a little high when I or-dered over the phone, but thought maybe there would

be enough for two meals. That did not happen. Very disappointed when I got home and realized what I got and what I paid. Live and learn. It was Jeff’s former location but mod-ernized. I mentioned to the people that I knew Jeff since the beginning. They told me he retired and went back to China. What? He went back to China to retire? At one time he had shown me pictures of his home and where he lived as a child. No thank you. Things must have changed dramatically for him to want to spend the rest of his life there. Makes you wonder if what we are told about China’s living condi-tions are true. Who would want to give up US citizen-ship and return to what he showed me in the pictures, squalor. He was a smart man and knows what he is doing. Makes me wonder though. Here in Florida we have Hispanics doing whatever they can to be Americans. We see almost no Chinese immigrants, at least here. I would imagine it is different on the West coast and especially in Cal-ifornia. At one time in our history Chinese labor was responsible for building the Railroads and the Panama Canal. It was abundant

and cheap. I do not know for sure but it just seems Chinese families are not choosing to move here. My granddaughter worked for the state department in Ethiopia for a couple of years, she sent me pictures of where she was staying in the capital, Addis Aba-ba. The Chinese seemed to have taken over the econo-my. Everything is Chinese, cars, food, and culture. She said the American ambas-sador told her it was that way all over Africa. The Chinese have moved in. That of course has noth-ing to do with Chinese Food or as the sign said on the door: “We serve Asian Food”. At first I was not sure I was in the right place. Asian could be Indi-

an or Vietnamese or what-ever as it is such a broad statement. It was Chinese or similar to what I am used to in New York. Have you ever tasted real Chinese food? Attend-ed a Chinese wedding in New York City once and they served real Chinese food. Let me just say af-ter dinner, we had to find a McDonald’s as the food was so bad we could not eat it. Maybe not really bad but not to our American taste. It was not like the Chinese food we get here. Remem-ber they have to feed a lot of people so they eat ev-erything. Nothing goes to waste. I know some of the food served at that wedding will never go to my waist. Yuk!
