  • from the bitterness and hatred

    for Obote and his men!

    Even when I accepted Jesus (as)

    my Lord and Savior, I still hated

    Obote and his bad boys!

    I thank God for (Binding Up Bro-

    ken Hearts) who ministered to

    my life this year, 2014, that God

    finally released me from un-

    forgiveness.

    I am at peace with my family and

    even my neighbors.

    I had to forgive neighbors who

    grabbed my land in 1986 and we

    have only been able to live at

    peace this year after God minis-

    tering to me through (Binding Up

    Broken Heats).

    My name is KKW. I am a Ugan-

    dan, 49 years old, married with

    children.

    I was born in the mid-sixties

    when the political scene of Ugan-

    da was getting worse every pass-

    ing moment and this plunged my

    country in a series of bloody

    wars during Obote, Amin and

    Museveni regimes.

    I was exposed to violence , mur-

    ders and my life was caught up in

    endless fear, hatred and unfor-

    giveness to the politicians, sol-

    diers and chiefs whom I blamed

    for this mess.

    I was also exposed to domestic

    tensions resulting from the polyg-

    amous nature of my family. So,

    to be precise, I was born at the

    wrong time both in family and my

    country.

    Being a victim of such bad times,

    I got caught up in the times itself

    and I even contributed to the

    flaring up of war by collaborating

    with N.R.A. to overthrow Obo

    tes government.

    The government that I hated so

    much was overthrown in 1986

    but this did not give me relief

    Recently we were asked to go on

    the road with a Nakasongaala

    District pastor to provide a basic

    training in trauma counseling

    information and skills to pastors

    in preparation for the upcoming

    Lifespan Integration Training.

    Five sites were chosen, a training

    named Healing the Wounds of

    Trauma was adapted for our

    use as a two day seminar and off

    we went!

    All five trainings were conducted

    May 3-18 and took us deeper

    into the bush to the shores of

    Lake Kyoga. A total of approxi-

    mately 500 pastors and church

    leaders were provided with train-

    ing. Best was that the trainings

    were received eagerly by the

    Thank God for suc-

    cessful work this year;

    For the Lifespan Inte-

    gration Trainings with

    Cathy Thorpe, MA,

    LMHC, in Rwanda and

    Uganda;

    Thank God for the

    higher than expected

    response to training

    opportunities;

    For financial support

    to meet the higher

    than expected costs

    of trainings;

    That we can complete

    all the counseling that

    has been started

    before it is time for us

    to leave;

    For the work that is

    just being started with

    Girls;

    For physical, emotion-

    al, and spiritual good

    health during the

    remainder of our stay.

    Thank you for your

    prayers! We need them!

    This year we have seen several caregivers to children who, as children themselves, survived the bloody struggle for politi-

    cal power in Uganda from 1962 to 1986. These men and women grew up seeing dead bodies in the streets and fields,

    witnessing murders and massacres. The memories have lingered and the fear has remained until this year when they

    decided to see if the ministry of BUBH could help. Below is the testimony of one of these survivors.

    Binding Up Broken Hearts (BUBH) is a cup of cold water ministry

    founded by John and Robin (Heflin-Woods) Vendelin, Licensed Mental

    Health Counselor (LMHC) and Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT)

    in WA, USA. BUBH is dedicated to bringing the love of God to chil-

    dren, adolescents, young adults and their caregivers who have lived in

    violent places and through violent times and have developed the debili-

    tating symptoms of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). Gods

    love is demonstrated and shared by providing safe, effective, research-

    proven and comparatively rapid mental health care. Utilizing infor-

    mation regarding genetics, brain-development and the way traumatic

    events are stored in the brain and body, BUBH uses therapies that can

    provide significant relief for kids, parents, teachers and pastors, so that

    children whose futures have been limited by violence and fear will have

    a better chance of using the resources they have available to the fullest

    extent possible and living lives full of Gods love and the freedom that

    Jesus Christ purchased for them on the cross.
