Being a bride can be challenging. Planning involves a lot of wand a lot of emotions. Its nice to know other brides have beeyour sparkly wedding shoes before you. Want to know what wwell? What deserved a do-over? Read on as four recent brides on their weddings and share their big-day advice.

Lallie & RussellFor their May 2014 nuptials, Lallie and Russell remembered wedding was about the joining of two people and not the smal

tails. The bride recommends keeping the guest list under 100.Keeping it smaller made it possible to speak to everyone

made it more intimate for our guests as well, she says. They married at a private home in North Myrtle Beach, So

Carolina, followed by a brunch reception at a nearby restauThe brunch was affordable, and the early celebration gave the cple and their guests time to enjoy the day. The brides and groofriends hosted an afterparty that night at a local bar.

Still, Lallie would have changed one thing: not hiring a prosional photographer. She hired a friend of a friend and realized the wedding that the photographer wasnt a pro.

I wish I had more photos to look back on and remember

day, she says.Luckily, Russells and her friends shot some good photos to

    plement what the photographer shot.

LALLIES TIP:This is about you and your future husband andrest of your lives together as a married couple. ... Seriously, dsweat the small stuff.

Ashley & CollinAshley and Collin married in Septem-

ber 2013 in a formal barn wedding, inNew Yorks Hudson Valley.

The bride wore a custom KathrynConover dress that cost $3,000, a hugesavings, since most of the bridal store

dresses Ashley liked were over $8,000.Ashley and Collin served food theyliked, such as passed bites, craft beersand local meats. They didnt have a wed-ding cake, either. They instead served acheese plate for dessert, because thatis how we always end a meal when wehave date nights.

They also saved money by havingAshleys mother craft the flowers.

My mom exchanged her time andvolunteered to help out of her local flo-ral shop in exchange for learning how tomake flower crowns, bouquets and bou-

tonnieres, as well as how to make flow-ers last, she says.

ASHLEYS TIP:Plan a surprise for your-self as a bride, she says, suggesting youask your mother or maid of honor togive you something to wear for the wed-

ding, such as jewelry or a hair accessory.Just something to make you feel extraspecial on your big day.

Jenna & JosephJenna and Joseph married in June 2014

in Bayonne, New Jersey. The wedding turned out exactly how

I wanted it, and I couldnt ask for any-thing better, says the bride, whose fa-vorite moment was being at the churchand sitting next to her soon-to-be hus-band.

JENNAS TIP: When it comes down tomaking a decision, whether it be big orsmall, make sure it is what you and yourfiance feel is best, she says.

Michelle & DaveMichelle and Dave exchanged vows

in December 2013, in New York City, where they had two witnesses, thebrides brother and grooms sister. Theydidnt have a formal engagement partyor bridal shower, and they also skippeda first dance and simply enjoyed slowdancing throughout the reception.

Instead ofspeeches fromthe best man ormaid of honor, the couple wel-comed theirguests by de-scribing howwe were feelingand then in ahumorous way, sort of roastedthe room. It was afun way to intro-duce our gueststo one anotherand tell everyonewhy certain people were importanin our lives.

MICHELLES TIP:Play by your ownand dont compare yourself or wedding to others. Not only will

event be even more memorablealso) bridesmaids and guests will you for not putting them througsame dog and pony show theyvethrough for years.

Bridesmaids invest a lot of their time, ener-gy and money. According to the wedding in-dustry survey site The Wedding Report, theymay each spend over $1,000 on bridesmaidresponsibilities such as buying a dress, host-ing a bridal shower, traveling and bookinga hotel room. To thank them for all of theireffort and support, brides love to get theirbridesmaids fabulous thank-you gifts. Hereare the top trends in gifts for bridesmaids:

JewelryThe top picks in bridesmaid jewelry, oftencoordinated with bridesmaid dresses, include

fashion-forward initials and name necklacesor collections of bangle bracelets with beadsor crystals.

Another trend is having custom jewelrymade using sand from a bridesmaids favoritebeach. Holly Daniels Christensen, founderand chief designer at Dune Jewelry says thatbrides often look through her companysmassive sandbank of authentic sands from beaches all overthe world, to find one thats most fitting. It might be a beachwhere the bride and her friends went on a girls getaway orspring break, or a favorite lake where they spend every sum-

mer, says Christensen. Then brides choose a jewelry piecesuch as a sandbead necklace or just the sandbead to add to abead bracelet collection the bridesmaid already owns. Otherpopular items are heart-shaped pendants filled with person-alized-pick sands. When bridesmaids get these jewelry gifts, the present comes with favorite memories.

Personalized GiftsKathryn Drury Wagner, senior manager of conte

present trend site Gifts.com, says, Personalization, sumonogramming a gift, or adding a date or message, is b

classic idea and totally on-trend. Some of the gifts that ner names as top trends include decor items like perized trays for entertaining and phone cases or tablet slYou can go big with a personalized item, or go small wsurprising item like a personalized Pop-Tarts box ($17.the site) that may remind the bridesmaid of breakfastenjoyed back in college or road trip snacks.

Also, Wagner says thatpersonalizing gifts with images is now a popular option, one thatcan be used on phone cases, wine charms and other items.

Joseph Dolac, director of merchandising for RedEnvelope, says that personalization is a top choice in gifts because, Peo-ple want the opportunity to deliver a gift that makes a wow

statement. Personalized chalkboards, for example. You canchange it every day, such as adding to a list of 100 ReasonsI Love you or kitchen blackboard where you can write themenu or something like, Dinner is ready; take it or leave it!A sense of humor and personality can come through.

PillowsAs dcor items, pillows make a statement and can also

be personalized to each bridesmaid. Dolac says that leadingtrends include Silk, velvet and linen-combination pillows.Pillows with quotes or lovely statements embroidered orprinted on them can add some flair to the bridesmaids home.

Designer AccessoriesBridesmaids who love their labels will delight at getting aKate Spade bracelet or a Jonathan Adler mini pouch, afford-able items in top-name designers collections. For the Firecracker 5k, a fitting name because the runand the wedding happened on July 4, 2012, the bride worea white tutu, a veil and sneakers, and the groom looked

dapper in a sleeveless black tee with a tux design.Anthony and I love running, says DAmato. For us,

it was a way to personalize our wedding and share our pas-sion with our guests.

Even Keiras grandmother ran the 5k, calling it the firstand last race for the 80-year-old.

*Healthy HabitsBreaking a sweat is good for your health, but for many

brides, exercising is all about fitting into the weddingdress. Still, exercise can be a great stress reliever and a teambuilder, too, helping the bride, the groom and their wed-ding party stayed connected and get fit at the same time.

Stick to a diet and exercise routine that makes you feelyour best and that is realistic for you, says Heather Col-

anero, instructor and class quality director at Work It Out,a gym in Hoboken, N.J. Your goal should be to feel yourbest, not show a specific number on the scale. If you feelyour best, you will look your best.

Work It Out offers brides an I Do! kit that includes aone-hour fitness consultation with an instructor/person-al trainer; a 30-class package that is valid for six months;workout apparel; an individualized meal plan customizedby an in-house nutritionist; and a trial with a makeup art-ist.

No matter what exercise or diet program you try, Col-anero suggests being patient but focused. Instead of wait-ing until a month before to get serious about your goals, plan ahead with plenty of time, six months to even a year, she says.

Whether you work out in sweatpants or tutus, have funburning calories, reducing stress and getting fit. The re-sults will help you shine on the big day.

It is such a simple thing at heart, a single band of metal worn

around the ring finger of the left hand indicating the wearer tobe married. Originally in the United States, it was only marriedwomen who wore wedding rings. During the 20th century, itbecame customary for men to wear them, as well, and for mostof the 20th century, the rings were as basic as they come.

But no more, fellas! With men being more fashion forwardthan ever, the wedding ring is not just a statement of commit-ment; its a statement of lifestyle and fashion, as well. With somany options available, how are you to choose?

First, let it be known that you no longer have to match yourpartners ring exactly. Even wedding site extraordinaire TheKnot agrees, saying, Theres no rule you have to wear matchingwedding bands. Many couples are opting for complementaryrings, while letting their own individual style shine through. You

could pick the same metal but different cuts, or get an inscrip-tion to tie the rings together. But honestly? The rings can becompletely different. That youve committed yourselves to eachother is matching enough!

So, gentlemen, what are your options?First, you need to choose between a domed fit versus a flat

fit. Domed, sometimes called comfort fit, has an interior that isslightly domed, making it easier to slide on and off of your fin-ger. Generally, its recommended for men because its easier toget over large knuckles. Flat fit is more traditional, and if yourring is less than 5 millimeters wide, the doming is not noticeableas far as comfort is concerned. Because it costs extra, be mindfulof the ring width when choosing between the two.

Next, consider your lifestyle and what your wedding ringwill need to withstand. If youre an extreme-sports participant

    - someone who does the Warrior Dash on the weekends for funin between rock climbing and surfing Mavericks, then youregoing to need a ring that can handle that kind of punishment. Ifyour life is a bit more sedate, then you can pretty much chooseanything youd like.

Gold is by far the most popular and traditional wedding bandmaterial for both men and women. It comes in a variety of huesfrom yellow to white to rose and can have a shiny or matte fin-ish. Gold is a softer metal and can scratch, but its affordabilityand ubiquity make it enduringly popular. Silver and sterling sil-ver are also popular choices, but they have many of the sameproblems as gold. Gold and silver are easy to engrave, makingthem a favorite choice for couples who want that.

For grooms who need something stronger or just want some-

thing different, platinum is the trendiest choice. This white metalis precious and expensive but very durable. It can be scratched, but scratches easily can be buffed out.

If you like the look of platinum but not the trendiness or theprice tag, consider cobalt. It has a similar sheen and luster, butits much cheaper. Cobalt is also harder and therefore strongerthan platinum.

For something darker, many grooms are turning to tungsten

carbide. Not only is this dark silver metal highly durabscratch-resistant but its affordable, to boot. The only probthat if youre not used to wearing rings, tungsten is very h

and that can take some getting used to. Titanium, on thehand, is lightweight and unbreakable. It also has a naturalfinish, for guys who are no frills.

If metal isnt your thing, ceramic rings are gaining poity as wedding bands. This is not your lumpy high schoproject. High-tech ceramic has been used in the aerospacmedical industries for years and recently has become a fadarling.
