Two of the pub's 10 house ales are named after key players in the 1886 Haymarket Riot, when eight police officers were killed when perps threw a bomb at police during a labor strike. Besides a history lesson, the Haymarket offers juicy house-made sausages, tender pulled pork, beer battered fish and rotisserie chicken in addition to 16 guest taps and 84 bottles, mainly classic Belgian and contemporary American ales and lagers. The smaller dining area draped in dark woods offers views of the glassed-in brewery equipment, while the large, spacious tile-floored main room has more flatscreens to watch the game. Stop in on Saturday afternoons for the “To Cure a Hangover” lecture/comedy performance, melding quotes from Charles Bukowski with the writer/performers' tales of their experiments in literary drinking and besting hangovers. It's the perfect post-riot dessert.
