Introducing Haymarket Pub, the new West Loop gastropub/brewery (where Bar Louiewas) that brings together bomb-throwing anarchists and hard-drinking writers.
Two of the pub's 10 house ales are named after key players in the 1886 HaymarketRiot, when eight police officers were killed when perps threw a bomb at police during alabor strike.
Besides a history lesson, the Haymarket offers juicy house-made sausages, tenderpulled pork, beer battered fish and rotisserie chicken in addition to 16 guest taps and84 bottles, mainly classic Belgian and contemporary American ales and lagers.
The smaller dining area draped in dark woods offers views of the glassed-in breweryequipment, while the large, spacious tile-floored main room has more flatscreens towatch the game.
Stop in on Saturday afternoons for the “To Cure a Hangover” lecture/comedyperformance, melding quotes from Charles Bukowski with the writer/performers' tales oftheir experiments in literary drinking and besting hangovers.
It's the perfect post-riot dessert.
