It has been a pleasure meeting with parents and families and maintaining the open communication that contributes to the positive and friendly school environment that is evident across the school. I must acknowledge the wonderful preparation by staff to ensure the smooth start to the school year and the hard work of Mrs Nottle over the years. The teacher passion for our children is evident as I wander through classes each morning and the respectful manner in which we all engage contributes to our ongoing success. Our class structures remain flexible until census on Friday 14 February and we are able to identify the best organisational structure for our school needs and the learning needs of the students. I want to reassure parents that the class organisation is completed keeping in mind the needs of the students, recommended class sizes, input from teachers, administration and parent requests. I want to thank families in advance for understanding and apologise, in advance for any concerns that may arise as a consequence. I also want to thank the families who travelled to China during the break, who supported our school by keeping children home for 14 days as requested by the Health Department in response to the management of the Coronavirus. Your communication with the school and willingness to support the request has helped with the community feel confident about minimising any potential risk. I am truly honoured to be the new school principal at Brentwood Primary. Brentwood is a remarkably multicultural school and that diversity builds strength across the school. Principal’s Message

Welcome back to the 2020 school year, we have had a tremendous start to the new school year with new enrol-ments and returning students adding to the wonderful learning environment. The children are settling in well and class routines are being established. Our

class structures remain flexible until census on Friday 14 February and we are able to identify the best organisational structure for our school needs and the learning needs of the students.

Virtue of the Fortnight – UNITY

Being the start of the year and the beginnings of new classes it is appropriate for everyone to build

unity. Unity helps us work and live together peacefully. We feel connected with each other and all

living things. When we come together in unity, we cooperate. With unity we accomplish more together

than any one of us could alone.

You are practicing UNITY when you ….

Treat all people as members of one team.

Act like a peacemaker wherever you go.

Solve conflict through listening and finding solutions.

Care for the earth and all living things.

Work as a team to get things done efficiently.

“We practice UNITY with others. We appreciate differences in people. We are peacemakers. We care for the earth and all living things.”

Local Schools Community Fund - Successful Grant application

In September last year Mr Butler and Mr Trimble prepared a submission to the Commonwealth Department of Education’s ‘Local Schools Community Fund’. We were advised by Mr Ben Morton MP in December that we were successful with our application and would be funded $10,490 toward the “Brentwood Coding and Robotics Adventure”. The school will also add additional funding. The project is designed to allow Mr Butler to team teach with classroom teachers and implement coding and robotics curriculum to all students, K-6. Participating classrooms for Term One are Rooms 13, 8, 4 and

9. Other classrooms will get opportunities next term and for the rest of the year. Mr Butler will be using Lego WeDo and ‘BOOST’ robots to teach

coding and robot construction. Keep an eye out for future newsletter inserts with up-to-date news on how our program is progressing.

Library News

Welcome back the library! I'm looking forward to another year

of sharing my passion for books with our Brentwood students.

Just a few quick reminders to make sure our year runs smoothly. Each class has a timetabled library sessions every week, although Kindy students will not start until term 2. All students are expected to bring their own library bag on library day to keep their books safe. From experience I recommend a bag that is water resistant and squishy

banana proof!

Parents and friends are welcome to pop past any time and browse the shelves. I am in

the library on Wednesday's, Thursday's and a half day Friday.

Happy reading

Lucy Pezzali - Library Officer
