Today’s congregation continues strong traditions of:

Living faith through worship, mission, education and fellowship with the vision of “Reaching Out to Make Disciples.”

Following the path laid out by God through his son, Jesus Christ, and the power of the Holy Spirit;

Sharing the inclusive love of God to all of God’s children and God’s creation;

Exposing the light of Christ to the world through music, words, prayer and actions.

*PROFESSING OUR FAITH The Apostles Creed (Ecumenical Translation)

I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth.

I believe in Jesus Christ, God’s only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried; he descended to the dead. On the third day he rose again; he ascended into heaven, he is seated at the right hand of the Father, and he will come to judge the living and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body and the life everlasting. Amen.

SHARING OUR HEARTS WITH GOD Following each petition, God’s people respond:

Leader: Loving God, People: Hear our prayer.

BRINGING OUR GIFTS TO GOD

Offertory “Offertory on ‘Munich’” from Sacred Suite for Organ Daniel Gawthrop

*Offertory Response (Hymn No. 592) Praise God, from Whom All Blessings Flow Praise God from whom all blessings flow, Praise Him all creatures here below; Praise Him above ye heav'nly host; Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. Amen.

*PRAYER OF DEDICATION SACRAMENT OF THE LORD’S SUPPER

Invitation to the Table

The Great Thanksgiving

Leader: The Lord be with you. People: And also with you. Leader: Lift up your hearts. People: We lift them up to the Lord. Leader: Let us give thanks to the Lord our God. People: It is right to give our thanks and praise. Leader: It is truly right…who forever sing to the glory of your name.

Sanctus

Holy, holy, holy Lord, God of power and might. Heaven and earth are full of your glory, Hosanna in the highest. Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord. Hosanna in the highest!

*Please stand if you are able.

*OFFERING OUR BROKENNESS TO GOD

God of justice and mercy, we confess that we often live lives filled with lies and deceit. We are fooled by the promises of the world and let the society around us guide our lives. We pursue things that will not nourish us or bring honor to your name. Forgive us, we pray, and then strengthen us and guide us so that we may share your love and grace in all we do. Amen.

Silent Confession

Response (Hymn No. 347, v.1) Forgive Our Sins, As We Forgive

“Forgive our sins, as we forgive,” You taught us, Lord, to pray, But you alone can grant us grace to live the words we say.

*RECEIVE GOD’S HEALING

*SHARE GOD’S PEACE

Leader: The peace of the Lord Jesus Christ be with you.

People: And also with you. Please share the peace of Christ with those around you.

*SING GLORY TO GOD Gospel Acclamation

Glory to God in the highest, and peace to God’s people on earth. Glory to God in the highest, and peace to God’s people on earth.

TODAY is Cents-Ability Sunday! Cents-Ability is a small first step in the battle against hunger and poverty. Congregations invite every member — of all ages — to contribute a few cents at every meal. Cents-Ability originated in 1976 as “Two-Cents-A-Meal”, a project begun by Presbyterian Women to involve individuals and families in a corporate response to world hunger.

With your donations we have funded local and international hunger projects such as NNEMAP, the YWCA Family Center, PCUSA missionary support for the Heifer International project in Honduras, and the Presbyterian Hunger Program, to name a few.

In July $69.45 was donated to Cents-Ability. This brings our total collection for 2017 to $320.56. Please remember to put your pennies, nickels, dimes, and quarters in your Cents-Ability bank each day, then bring your banks to church and add your loose change at any time to the Cents-Ability jar on the information table in the Lounge!

Scrubbies for Sale TODAY after the 10:30 am Service Get out your crochet hook, ladies (and gentlemen), and help Presbyterian Women make scrubbies. Scrubbies sell for $2 each or 3 for $5 and are the main source of income for PW’s mission projects. Marketing Director Ted Smith will be happy to share ideas for their use and Barb Frautschi will give crocheting instructions. Sally Neff will take orders at 614-224-3719. Extreme Immediate Needs for NSI Food Pantry and Help for NNEMAP NSI has had a large increase in un-duplicated households this year, from 1,608 households or 4,997 individuals last year to 1,845 households or 5684 individuals served this year through the end of July, an increase of 15% over last year. While NSI does have specific food requests (see the flier on the bulletin board) their response to our question about needs was as follows:

"While immediate food donations will help us fill the shelves for a few days, money is actually what we need to purchase our pantry items in bulk from Mid-Ohio Food Bank. With the partnership with Mid-Ohio we can do a lot more with money. Summer has been so busy we are just wiped of everything and unable to buy more. Thanks for asking!"

You may give directly to NSI through their website: www.neighborhoodservicesinc.org/take-action or make a donation through your giving at Boulevard, being sure to note that it is for NSI, and we will send the accumulated donations to them. Please also remember NNEMAP in your giving. NNEMAP was asked by Mid-Ohio Food Bank to pick up another zip code—43224, the North Linden area— after the Ohio State Fair is ended, so their pantry will now be open more days to meet the demand. Volunteers remain a great need. Please prayerfully consider donating a few hours of your time out of your week or month as well as donating supplies and money. Congregational Meeting ~ August 13 at 10:10 am The purpose of the meeting is to hear the final report of the 2016-2017 Nominating Committee and to elect the 2017-2018 Nominating Committee. Calling All Middle and High School Youth! Back to School Bash! Come and celebrate the end of summer and the beginning of a new school year. St. Luke’s United Methodist Church, 1150 W. Fifth Avenue, is having a party! It will be held outside on the patio from 4-6 pm next Sunday, August 13, and will include music for dancing, food for eating, and friends to hang out with! AND it’s FREE! They will be collecting school supplies like pencils, glue sticks, markers, and Kleenex to be given to the Grandview teachers. Grab a friends and come on over!
