„It’s that time of year again...”

The Christmas Market in Bonn city centre will once again take place in the Münsterplatz, Bottlerplatz, Friedensplatz, Mülheimer Platz and in Windeckstrasse, Vivatsgasse and Poststrasse in keeping with tradition. More than 170 stalls will display their wide range of goods starting on 21st No-vember and continuing until 23rd December. From decora-tive and often quite practical arts and crafts to Christmas decorations and culinary delights: you will find practically everything here that Christmas market enthusiasts enjoy. Again in 2014, you will find special Bonn treats at Sterntor. The Christmas Market will open daily at 11 am. Enjoy all types of food and beverage – it’s not only fans of mulled wine who will find what they are looking for! On 23rd No-vember, the Christmas Market will be closed to mark the Sunday before Advent commemorating the dead.

On Friday, 28th November 2014, you‘ll have the chance to experience a “long night” for the third time, because the Bonn Christmas Market and the city centre will stay open until midnight. All the food stalls will remain open for busi-ness and offer their products until midnight, while all the others stalls and retail stores will be open until 10 pm. Christmas music from brass instruments will resound from the mulled wine pyramid at the Münsterplatz every Satur-day during Advent. Church services and other impressive events will also be offered by many churches throughout Bonn. Starting on 29th November 2014, stalls run by seve-ral churches and charitable organisations will open in the area around the Bonn Minster to take part in the Church Mile. Experience the special flair of the Christmas Market

in Bonn! Just like every year, the “Activity house for child-ren” will once again open its doors at the Münsterplatz. Here children aged six years and older can play, paint or become involved in craft activities to their heart’s content.

“The Magic of Advent” City Tour“The Magic of Advent” city tour will really put you in the Christmas mood. Take in the wondrous atmosphere of the Christmas season in the old town of Bonn. Take a leisurely stroll with your tour guide across the festively lit and beau-tifully decorated Christmas market and learn many interes-ting facts about the city and its residents. Experience the typical sights, sounds and aromas of the Advent season and enjoy some small samples of deliciousChristmastime treats!

Dates: 21.11., 28.11., 5.12., 12.12. and 19.12.2014(Fridays).“The Magic of Advent” city tour will begin at 5 pm every day at Bonn Information and last about two hours. Tickets (adults € 16.00, concessions € 12.00, including three tas-tings) are available at Bonn Information.

Bonn in the Christmas season

When winter returns and the aroma of coriander, roasted almonds and mulled wine fills the city, then you know that the Christmas season has started in the Rhineland. Impres-sive lights and the magnificent Christmas decorations turn the city into a winter wonderland for both adults and child-ren alike. Lovingly created stalls with traditional han-dicrafts from the region are set up offering delicious treats such as gingerbread or hot chocolate.

The “White Fleet” on the River Rhine also offers visitors a special Christmas ambience. Santa Claus himself has even been booked by the passenger service operator Bonner Personenschifffahrt (BPS) so he can come directly on board with many gifts and surprises for the children. Ro-mantic cruises in the festively decorated salon are given that special touch with mulled wine and biscuits and are available throughout the Advent season. However, anyone interested in culture is also catered for in Bonn’s pre-Christmas programme. At the house where Ludwig van Beethoven was born you can view various exhibits inclu-ding his original piano, his music notes as well as his ear trumpets and emerge yourself in the world of the eccentric musician. The largest contiguous pedestrian shopping area in Germany awaits visitors for some last-minute shopping.

The Tourism & Congress GmbH Region Bonn/Rhine-Sieg/Ahrweiler has also wrapped up some Christmas presents and is offering a wide range of special hotel packages, which focus on the cultural history of the region. There is something for everyone from Beethoven to the Museum

Mile. The accommodation packages include overnight accommodation in a hotel including breakfast, entry to Beethoven-Haus and the museums as well as free local bus and train travel at special prices starting at € 40 (double room) and € 69 (single room) per person.
