BO DROGA THE ARTIST:

Born in Melbourne, Australia, Bo Droga spent his childhood and formative years in the Snowy Mountains of NSW where his family lived in the ski villages of Thredbo and Perisher Valley. From an early age Bo developed a keen appreciation for the beauty and contrasts of country and city landscapes particularly the wonderful impact in certain instances from the melding of the two, whether through material use or visual representation. Indeed, these early impressions were lasting; they lie at the crux of his work before us today. Bo lives and works in Paris. His art work is exhibited at the Galerie Courcelles Art Contemporain in Paris and can be found in private collections throughout Europe, UK USA, Australia and Fiji.

HIS WORK: Bo’s sculptural and site specific art works stem from his interest in "Urban Landscapes" and in the study of the relationship between order and chaos in urban developments.

“Urban landscapes finds its origin from a particular moment in a aeroplane looking down over a city or looking over a urban development…the view from the aeroplane where the buildings are unrecognizable as buildings but look like simple forms and shapes. This creates a unique abstract landscape that I articulate into a three dimensional art work. This moment in time is very brief as the buildings soon become recognizable as you descend closer to the city.“Google earth has been a exciting tool for Bo in helping him develop his ideas, however none of his art works are derive from any one location.

Bo uses form and its opposite, space, constitute the primary elements of his work. Their reciprocal relationship is important too. Both form and space are given shape and scale in all Bo’s work and site specific installations. In addition, the placement of his art work and the relationship to its immediate surroundings is another crucial aspect of this form/space relationship. Just as internal space is created by voids in form, exterior space can be defined or poorly defined by changing the shape, mass / size, scale, proportion, rhythm, articulation, texture, color, and light of form as well.
