Standard channel rangeThe BLCHER standard channel range comprisesdrainage channels for all common applications andfor all common floor types, i.e. for concrete/in-situ/tiled floors or for vinyl floors.

The standard channels are available in lengthsranging from 1 m to 17 m and up to four standardwidths, dependent on type of channel, and in varia-tions with or without outlet box.

Each type of standard channel is available with dif-ferent types of standard gratings suitable for weightloads from 1350 kg up to 8400 kg.

The BLCHER standard channels are produced instainless steel AISI 304/EN 1.4301.

Selecting a channel from the standard range iseasy: Use the tables on pages 6 9 to identifytype number for the channel requested, includinggrating. Then select lower part and accessories,

using the diagrams on pages 13, 15 and 17.

Most standard channels can be supplied from stockwith short lead times.

Options and extrasStabiliser angles, adjustable legs, edge infill, othertypes of gratings, etc. are among the options availablefor the standard channel range. See pages 24-26.

Custom solutionsIn addition to the BLCHER standard channelrange, BLCHER also offers purpose-made channelson request to ensure that any drainage requirementcan be satisfied. The right solution

Selecting a channel system: Water load

It is important to ensure that the lower partand trap arrangement has adequate flowcapacity for the application.

Waste productsWhere possible a grate should be chosen whichpermits pieces of waste to pass through for col-lection in a filter basket.

Loading Can influence the choice of channel width as

well as determining the most appropriate gratingfor the application.

Stainless steel gradeAISI 304 (EN 1.4301)

Floor covering Concrete/tiles/in-situ (e.g. epoxy resin) or flexi-

ble sheet (e.g. vinyl).

Membrane typeWhere required liquid or dry membrane applica-tion will determine the choice of lower part.

Floor drainage methodsChoice of channel or industrial drainTo choose between a channel and a floor drain itis necessary to consider the rooms use and design.For example the number and location of dischargepoints, frequency of discharge, the volume of water,the size of the room and the nature of the traffic inthe room.

The following factors indicate that channels should

be considered: Many discharge points. It is possible to install a

channel network such that individual dischargepoints are picked up and water does not cover theentire floor and cause a safety hazard.

Large floor area. Installing a channel in a largeroom allows the floor to be laid with less fall.

Large quantities of surface water. The water con-tent of a large channel acts as a buffer and redu-ces slip hazards.

Breakwater. A channel in a door opening will iso-late designated wet and dry areas.

Slot channel requires no grating but instead hasa 20 mm aperture along the channel length, makingit the most cost effective solution in the modularrange.

The profile shape has been developed to make itrobust, hygienic and most suitable for applicationswhere wastewater discharges carry little or no solidmatter. A range of gratings is available for the out-let box.

Application areas:

Lower parts and accessories

The outlet of all BLCHER channels can be combinedwith either horizontal or vertical outlet lower parts.The outlet size determines the size and types avail-able of removable water trap and/or filter basket orsand bucket. See also diagrams pages 13, 15 and 17.In addition the lower part provides height adjust-ment making it easier to set the channel to therequired finished floor level.

Where connection to a damp proof membrane isrequired there are also lower parts which are suitablefor use with either liquid or dry membranes.

The capacity of the lower parts is dependent on thetype of water trap, filter basket etc. selected. Pleasesee the capacities stated for these.

OptionsThe connection between concrete and channel isparticularly important for channels exposed to heavyloadings and temperature differences. Two standardoptions are available to protect the channel from theeffect of these factors.

Stabiliser angleThe stabiliser angle is longitudinally welded to thechannel wall supporting the channel and in contactwith the concrete throughout the channels length.The stabiliser angle is therefore recommended foruse where the channel is subjected to heavy wheelloadings.

Adjustable legs can be added to the stabiliser anglefor use in adjusting the channel to the required finish-ed level before casting.

Edge infillEdge infill For optimum channel strength it isimportant that the channel is properly embedded inconcrete. This is particularly necessary with regardto the underside of the channel edge profile. Whilstthis can be filled on site it is also possible to havethe filling carried out under factory conditions aspart of the production process.

In addition to providing greater rigidity to the chan-nel, the edge infill also prevents bacterial growth.

Protective stripThe edge profile can be supplied with a protectivestrip which adheres lightly and is easily removed.This is to protect the edge profile during installationleaving a perfect visible edge once the installationis complete.

Anchor tang

Material quality Unless otherwise stated, the standard chan-nel range is made in AISI 304 (material no.1.4301). On request, the channels and most ofthe gratings and accessories can be supplied inAISI 316L as an option.

All channels are chemically pickled and passiva-ted to provide a clean hygienic surface finish.

Material thickness

Channels for concrete, in-situ or tiled floors:2 mm, ensuring the channel can be used wherethere are heavy loads.

Channels for sheet vinyl floor covering: 1.5 mm vinyl covered floors are not exposed to heavyloads.

Anchor tangAnchor tangs are positioned every 500 mm alongthe channel wall and should be bent out 90 before

casting. Anchor tangs are generally suitable wherethe channel is not subjected to excessive weightor thermal loadings (e.g. medium/light industrial).Adjustable legs can be added to the anchor tangs.

Grating support 26 mm shoulder depth ensures that 25 mm

gratings do not protrude above the channel.

15 mm shoulder width ensures that there isadequate support for the various grating types.

Keeping this shoulder to a minimum is importantfor hygiene reasons to prevent bacteria growthon the horizontal surface.

Cross bars 8 x 20 mm flat bar placed to give 1000 mm grate

location gaps in channels.

OD 8 mm round bar steel is placed at 500 mmcentres in slot channels.

Cross-bars reinforce the channel and ensure that it is

not pressed together during embedding in concrete.Cross-bars also ensure that the grates are notdisplaced longitudinally.

Calculation of channel lengthWhere there are no special circumstances to be takeninto account, the diagrams below can be used as aguide for establishing the correct location and designof channels so that a constant fall is achieved to thedrainage channel

As most floors with channels are laid to falls, accountmust be taken at the planning stage to ensure the fall(A) does not exceed 1-2% (depending on floor type).
