    TWELFTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME

First Reading: Jeremiah 20:10-13 Because the prophet Jeremiah foretold disaster for Jerusalem, he was denounced. But Jeremiah trusted in the Lord and overcame his persecutors. Second Reading: Romans 5:12-15 Paul explains to the Romans that Adam’s sin brought death to all, but Christ’s gift of himself brought grace and life. Gospel: Matthew 10:26-33 In authoritative and encouraging words, Jesus urges the apostles to fear nothing -- only him who can destroy the soul. Telling them “every hair of your head has been counted,” he promises that “Whoever acknowledges me before men I will acknowledge before my Father in heaven.”

  • THANK YOU … Over these last few weeks many parishioners have continued to support the parish through their weekly offerings. Some have mailed them in, and others have joined E-giving to have their gifts automatically given to the parish. It is through this continued support that we will continue to meet the needs of the parish. Also, through these days many have sent comments and e-mails with their prayers and encouragement for me and the parish. Please know that you and your families are in mine and Father Hillier’s prayers each day. ~Monsignor Puleo In your charity please pray for the safety and well-being of those who are continuing to serve the needs of others--food service delivery personnel, doctors, nurses, scientists, EMS workers, police, pharmacists, the leaders of our government ~our president and governor!

PROJECT UPDATE: ROOF REPLACEMENT One of our spring projects was the replacement of the Parish Center roof. With the state lifting construction restrictions, construction is underway. Please pray for good weather along with the safety and well-being of all those involved in the project.

PRAY FOR POPE FRANCIS AND HIS INTENTIONS

For the Way of the Heart - We pray that all those who suffer may find their way in life, allowing themselves to be touched by the Heart of Jesus.

STRENGTH OF A MOUNTAIN God took the strength of a mountain, The majesty of a tree, The warmth of a summer sun, The calm of a quiet sea, The generous soul of nature, The comforting arm of night, The wisdom of the ages, The power of the eagle's flight, The joy of a morning in spring, The faith of a mustard seed, The patience of eternity, The depth of a family need, Then God combined these qualities, When there was nothing more to add, He knew His masterpiece was complete, And so, He called it ... Dad - Author Unknown

Prayer for Fathers on Father’s Day God, Father of mercy, shine the abundance of your love upon our earthly fathers.

Keep my dad in your care. Give him the necessary strength of mind, body and spirit to fulfill his many responsibilities as custodian of our family.

When distracted by the circumstances of life, give him hope and optimism. When weighed down with torment, give him interior peace. When challenged by the details of worldly cares, give him a share in your Fatherly comfort.

Father of all, keep my dad safe in your care. Give him the grace of perseverance, to remain always faithful and never let him depart from your providential

    care.

    Amen © Reverend John G. Hillier 2019

SAINT JOSEPH – PATRON OF FATHERS

St. Joseph, guardian of Jesus and chaste husband of Mary, you passed your life in loving fulfillment of duty. You supported the holy family of Nazareth with the work of your hands. Kindly protect those who trustingly

come to you. You know their aspirations, their hardships, and their hopes. They look to you because they know you will understand and protect them. You too knew trial, labor and weariness. But amid the worries of material life your soul was full of deep peace and sang out in true joy through intimacy with God's Son entrusted to you and with Mary, his tender Mother. Assure those you protect that they do not labor alone. Teach them to find Jesus near them and to watch over him faithfully as you have done. Pope Saint John XXIII

  • ACT OF SPIRITUAL COMMUNION My Jesus,  I believe that You are present in the Most Holy Sacrament.  I love You above all things,  and I desire to receive You into my soul.  Since I cannot at this moment receive You sacramentally,  come at least spiritually into my heart. I embrace You as if You were already there and unite myself wholly to You. Never permit me to be separated from You. Amen.

CORONAVIRUS - PRAYER FOR COURAGE God our Loving Father, comforter of the afflicted, watch over us always, but most especially at this, our time of urgent need.

With heavy hearts we cry out to you ... We ask that you heal those among us weighed down with the coronavirus.

Inspire with your holy wisdom — our health professionals: scientists, doctors, and all medical personnel. Show special attention to our government officials: nationally, internationally, and local. Make them instruments of your love as they seek to serve your people.

Lord and Giver of Life, trusting in your mercy, we recall the prayer of your prophet Jeremiah: "heal me, O Lord and I shall be healed; save me, and I shall be saved” (17:14).

When fearful, grant us courage. When uncertain, strengthen us. In our sorrow, comfort us.

With hearts overflowing with love for you, we surrender ourselves to your providential care, and ask only that you consider our sincere request to remain steadfast in your love — charitable to all and faithful first and foremost in doing your holy will. Through Christ Our Lord, Amen © Reverend John G. Hillier, March 10, 2020

    CATHOLIC EDUCATION INFORMATION

“WALKING WITH MOMS IN NEED” INITIATIVE

New Jersey Safe Haven Law - Under the New Jersey Safe Haven Infant Protection Act a person may give up an unwanted infant anonymously. The purpose of Safe Haven is to protect unwanted babies from being hurt or killed from unsafe abandonment. A distressed parent who is unable to care for an infant can give up custody of a baby less than 30 days old safely, legally and anonymously. All that is required is that the baby be brought to any hospital emergency room, police station, fire station, ambulance, first aid, and rescue squads in New Jersey that are staffed 24 hours a day, seven days a week. If the child shows no signs of intentional abuse, no name or other information is required. The parent can call the Safe Haven Hotline - 1-877-839-2339 - and get the address and directions for any hospital emergency room, police station, fire station, ambulance, first aid, and rescue squad in the state.

STEWARDSHIP REFLECTIONS “Everyone who acknowledges me before others I will acknowledge before my heavenly Father.” (Matthew 10:32) Would others know that you are Catholic by the way you act and speak? Do you share your Catholic faith with others? Do you defend your Catholic faith when the situation arises or do you remain silent? Do you pray in public before meals? Pray for the strength and courage to be a joyful witness of our Catholic faith when the opportunity presents itself. Let us become the radiant light and bold witness that we are called to be!

  • OPEN YOUR HEART AND HOME TO A FOSTER CHILD

Catholic Charities, Diocese of Metuchen is seeking loving families to foster children of all ages, who have been abused, neglected or have had multiple out of home placements, through its Treatment Family Homes Program, contracted by New Jersey’s Department of Children and Families. The goal for the children in this program is to leave foster care and achieve permanency through reunification with their families, adoption, or independent living. Catholic Charities provides these resilient children with individual and family therapy, assistance with educational and medical needs, and independent living skills to help them reach their full potential. Applicants must have adequate space for a child and complete a home study which includes background checks, references, interviews, and a home inspection. All Catholic Charities licensed families receive initial and ongoing specialized training, 24-hour emergency access to staff, respite services, monthly reimbursement for the child’s expenses and support from experienced families. For more information about the program, please visit www.ccdom.org or contact Miguelina Nunez at 866-247-HOME (4663) or at [email protected].
