BLENDING SYSTEMS FOR THE MARKETINGOF REFINED PETROLEUM PRODUCTS

The introduction o biouels into the mainstream uels market

business has generated the need or a signicant investment

in the appropriate technology and processes to ensure thatthe product reaching the end consumer is o the right quality

and can be produced repeatedly without the need or

additional quality controls.

FMC Technologies blending system modules are based on

the experience and quality o the Smith Meter brand. These

modules, created or the International Markets including the

European Market, have been designed to ulll internal and

logistical requirements and to comply with all Weights &

Measures requirements.

O all available blending methods, ratio blending has becomethe industries main blending method because o the most

constant blend quality even at interrupted operations.

BENEFITS

» Each standard skid supports up to our 2" blend

streams; more streams are optional

» The standard blend rates are 2% to 25% at a typical

loading o 2,400 L/min

» Pre-congured and pretested at the actory

» Minimum ootprint is suitable or new and upgrade

installations

» Support or Ratio Blending, Side Stream Blending

and Wild Stream Blending

 » Options or individual congurations

» Full actory fow and unctionality testing providing

ault-ree start up

» Comes with all approvals and certicates

 » ISO certied production

Ratio BlendingRatio blending reers to the mixing o the main uel stream

and the bio component stream in the correct ratio, where

the main uel stream is considered a variable fow and the

bio component fow must be controlled in the correct ratio.

Typically the term ratio blending is used where the biostream

is mixed with the main uel stream “downstream” o the main

uel meter and managed with one electronic controller device

managing all fow control valves. With this blending method

the blending stream is considered as part o custody transer

metering. The main advantage or ratio stream blending is

that all nal product components are individually and

accurately measured, thus enabling correct inventoryreconciliation providing the most accurate nal custody

transer volume inormation. A typical application is

Ethanol blending.

Wild Stream BlendingI the blending component stream is “separately controlled”

rom the main uel stream, then it is oten called “wild

stream” blending, where the main uel fow stream is the

wild stream (uncontrolled stream) and the blend component

is controlled as a percentage o the main stream and blended

typically upstream (alternatively downstream) o the main

stream fowmeter.

Side StreamBlending

Setup

Outlet Blended Product

Side Stream BlendingSide stream blending is an alternative term or ratio blend-

ing, but where the blend stream is mixed with the main uel

upstream o the main uel meter. The blend meter is managed

by the main stream electronic controller device. To ensure the

accuracy o the blend, this blending method has blend stream

accuracy requirements which are equivalent to the premium

level o the main stream custody transer metering. The main

advantage or side stream blending is that typically the side

stream is legally not considered as custody transer. A typical

application is biodiesel blending.
