Dear Black Diamond Members: I have the great pleasure of living and working here at Black Diamond and truly enjoy this time of year. The club is probably at its busiest with residents enjoying early morning walks with the dog, bike rides in the evenings and, of course, our courses are busy from morning till dark. WehaveanumberofterrificeventsscheduledforMarchstartingwiththeCouples’Member-Guest on March 7 and 8. As a reminder, please make a reservation for dinner so we can appropriately staff the dining room. Lastly,Iwouldliketothankthosewhohavecomebymyofficetotalkaboutthenewmembership plan. There are many misconceptions circulating around the club about the plan and I would like the opportunity to answer questions directly and openly. I believe that we need a new membership plan that will allow us to bring new members to the club, sell homes and accelerate our ability to refund those who are on the resignation list. If you have any questions at all, please come see me directly. I want everyone to make an informed decision based on facts and not by the latest rumor. Again, asalways, thankyouforbeingpartofthisterrificclub.Itisanhonortobeapart of it and to serve our members.

All members, both ladies and gentlemen, are encouraged to participate in our annual Cancer fund-raising Tournament,

renamed this year “Conquering Cancer in Citrus County”. Funds raised will benefit the Black Diamond Ladies’ Golf Association (BDGLA) Cancer Screening Project which is administered by the Citrus

County Family Resource Center. This program provides fellow Citrus County citizens, who are in need, initial medical examination for possible diagnosis and referral to accessible cancer treatment through established

partnerships. Seventy-five percent of funds raised will be directed to this purpose. The project will also make a contribution of 25% of the funds raised

directly to a Florida-based cancer research project. A variety of research projects will be reviewed and the final selection will be made by the executive of

the BDGLA.Thank you for your continued suppor t.

We are looking forward to seeing you on April 16th.

Attention Members: This time of the year is when we are starting to see an outbreak in certain weeds throughout the courses as well as other pests (insect) and begin transition from our winter grass, back to the Bermuda surfaces.

8th Annual Memorial Tournament for the Joyce Burns Cup

March 25 - 27, 2013

Be on the lookout for the sign-up sheet for the 8th Annual Memorial Tournament for the Joyce Burns Cup to be held on March 25- March 27, 2013. The format for this year’s match play event will be similar to last year’s successful event, featuring five 9 hole matches, two on Monday and Tuesday and one on Wednesday and concluding with a three hole shoot out among the winners of each flight. Play from the silver tees will commence with 8:30 shotguns on Monday and Tuesday, and a 9:00 shotgun on Wednesday. You are on your own for lunch on Monday, but Tuesday will feature a regular Ladies’ Day luncheon menu if you choose. An awards luncheon, included in the $30.00 entry fee, will be held after the conclusion of play on Wednesday. This year teams will be limited to a 10 stroke differential in handicaps, and the scoring will be modified slightly to award an additional point to the team earning the most points in a four ball match.

THANK YOU from THE BLACK DIAMOND FOUNDATION

The Foundation Board of Directors and Pro-Am Committee wish to say “Thank You” to the Black Diamond Club and its members for allowing us to use the Quarry Course for our annual fundraiser. We appreciate your sacrifice in giving up the use of one of your courses for the day.

We also thank the many volunteers who donated their time and services to ensure the participants had an enjoyable day, and a positive experience.

Finally, we thank the Pro and Amateur participants for supporting the Foundation in its mission of “Making a Difference” in Citrus County.

Big Brothers Big Sisters May Be Right for You ~Dona and Jim Wood

Looking for something interesting, rewarding, inexpensive, and fun to do for a few hours a month. Please consider mentoring a child in need of a positive role model.

Black Diamond Foundation has been a significant supporter of Big Brothers Big Sisters in Citrus County since 2005. The Foundation knows that this organization has a significant impact on the lives of children facing adversity via strong, enduring, professionally supported 1-1 mentoring relationships. Many of you have volunteered to be “Bigs;” Big Brothers Big Sisters needs more of us now, and going forward.

We have been a “Big Couple” to Mike, our Little, going on seven years. Mike is now sixteen and not so little anymore. He is finishing the tenth grade this spring; he plays varsity football and will be on the varsity basketball team this year. Currently, his plans are to attend college or join the Air Force. In the early years we spent a lot of time with school work, stressing the importance of education, and providing advice, if appropriate. We also did some bowling, golfing, attended movies, lunched and dined. Today his favorite destination is Five Guys for a bacon cheeseburger with fries, followed by a movie. We enjoy our time with Mike, and his mother and teachers say we have had a positive influence.

We would be pleased to share our experiences, or you can contact BBBS through Sheri Chancey, [email protected].

The name’s North, Weston North, major U.S. Air Force, retired. But, you already knew that from the last newsletter. So I’ve paid my $50.00 to get in this so called Black Diamond 3rd Annual Flats Fishing Contest and was expecting some feedback from the fish commish. I like to know who my competition is well in advance of the operation. You see, it’s all about planning. I remember the last time I went out without enough planning. 30 minutes out of Hai Phong bay, “angels 15” (15,000 feet). Check it out on the map, 20 degrees 51 minutes North, 106 degrees 43 minutes East. The ceiling was low but with enough gaps that I could see the white caps below and if I could see them, “they” could see me. With orders to fly directly to Doumer Bridge my GIB (guy in back) kept me focused on the mission. (For those of you that want to do the research, it’s no longer called Doumer Bridge but Long Bien Bridge or Câu Long Biên for you purists.) I was told this was a primary target and up to date reconnaissance was critical. It was the only bridge that connected Hanoi to Haiphong – all 5,532 feet of it. I was bright enough to know that it had to be a choke point for supplies coming out of Red China. So I assumed that we would eventually just bomb the thing to pieces. “Feet dry” my GIB yelled. That was always a relief to hear. You see, I don’t swim too well. Not what you would call one of my favorite sports. That meant we were about 104 clicks to target or about 64 miles for you non-metric types. Cruising along at about 590 miles an hour meant we’d be over that bridge in about 6 minutes. Focus, I said to myself. Get this done and we’ll be on our way home in no time. That’s when the phone rang. It was the fish commish. As promised he had some up-to-date intel for me on the contest. In case you haven’t heard, here is the latest….

• We’ve got our first registered husband and wife team. Dorothy and Tony Brice have committed to the contest and wanted to add a walleye category – just kidding.

• The Ike Walton Mob, the Three Hook “Hers” and the Late Swingers have also committed.

• Walt Ford has teamed up with Bill Reading and Bob Campbell who is toying with the idea of using a fly rod rather than spinning equipment.

• The Red Drums will be fishing again this year with higher hopes than what they turned in last year.

• The commish is still waiting to hear from LAW, Islamorada Cheeca’s, Chick with Sticks and the Master Baiters.

He also told me that there are at least two other teams in the process of getting their roster finalized and there’s still plenty of time to register. I’m sure that there’s more coming so I’ll leave the rest up to the commish.

And now a word from your fish commish…. I’m doing my best to control this Weston North guy but he’s on a mission of his own. There’s still plenty of time to register. Fishing doesn’t start until March 20th and lasts until April 3rd. But, you need to line up a guide shortly. That time of the month will be popular with guides and they will be booking up quickly. If you don’t have a guide let me know and I’ll give you some suggestions. After booking your guide, get your $50.00 per person deposit to me – either cash or check. Cash prizes and trophies to the best of the best. Good luck and thanks for participating…. Bill Williams (the fish commish) [email protected]
