ZSI – Centre for Social Innovation Legal status: Private Non-Profit research organisation in social sciences, established 1990

Clients are ministries, municipalities, EC, OECD, ILO, other public bodies and NGOs

Types of projects include research, education and training, coordination of networks, advisory services to public institutions (in Austria, EU and beyond)

Key areas of activities: ÿ Work and Equal Opportunities (e.g. labour market studies, migration, etc.) ÿ Research Policy and Development (e.g. international research cooperation – various regions: Russia, Moldova, Eastern Europe/Central Asia, Western Balkan Countries, South-East Asia, Latin America) ÿ Technology and Knowledge (information technologies, nanotechnologies, etc.)

What does ERAWATCH do? - ERAWATCH provides information on European, national and regional research systems, policies, and programmes in the EU and beyond. - ERAWATCH supports evidence based policy making in Europe and contributes to the realisation of the European Research Area (ERA). (ERA – coordination of research policies, pooling of resources, strengthening transnational research cooperation, etc.) - ERAWATCH currently covers 61 countries:

x) the 27 Member States of the European Union, x) 14 countries associated with the European Community's Research Framework Programme and x) 20 third countries – including Russia. It also provides an overview of the European Union.

What does ERAWATCH do? - ERAWATCH information is collected and presented by the Joint Research Centre – Institute for Prospective Technological Studies (JRC-IPTS) with the support of the ERAWATCH Network of national experts. - The ERAWATCH network is also used to collect information about innovation policies in 48 countries (27 EU Member States + 21 associated or third countries) within the Pro-Inno Policy TrendChart

What does ERAWATCH do? - Information is comparable over the different countries at the ERAWATCH website, information is established according to the same (detailed) drafting guidelines - ZSI is participating in the ERAWATCH network; it deals with the S&T and innovation profiles of three countries:

• Austria • Russia (together with Daria Zimina, Expert on Research and Innovation Policies) • Moldova (together with Gheorghe Cuciureanu, Researcher on S&T policies)


Which information on Russia can you find at ERAWATCH? - Russia Country Profile of the S&T system (Research Policy, Research Funders, Research Performers, etc.) - Analytical Country Report on certain aspects of Russia‘s S&T system (e.g. 2010 report on R&D investment targets, links between education, research and innovation, etc.) - Templates on relevant Russian R&D and innovation

• Organisations (Minobrnauki, RAS, RFFI, etc.) • Policy Documents (Strategies, etc.) • Funding programmes (FCP, etc.)

- Inno-Policy Trendchart report on innovation policies (e.g. On demand sided innovation policies, public procurement, etc.)
