Welcome to our first newsletter for 2012. Last year was a tremendously busy year for us, with a 40% growth in the number of mentors 140 matches were ‘served’ in the region. Currently we have 112 mentors matched with young people. However, we still have a waiting list of 48 young people, 36 of whom are boys. Most of these boys are still at primary school and lack a positive male role model in their life. So we’re actively looking for men who can provide some one-on-one support, encouragement and fun for these young boys. The only skill a mentor needs is to be themselves. An hour or two a week can change a young person’s life. Become a mentor today – and make a real difference to a young person’s life... Becoming a ``Big Brother” or a ``Big Sister’’ could be one of the most rewarding and enjoyable things you’ll ever

do.

It’s not hard; all you have to do is spend an hour or two a week with a young person doing the kinds of things you

both enjoy. Like flying a kite. Or kicking a ball around in the park. Or even walking your dog.

You’ll probably even find it’s fun, and at the same time you’ll be making a real difference to your young person.

So what are you waiting for? Contact Big Brothers Big Sisters of Nelson today:

A real-life fire engine and fire hose were big drawcards at our annual

BBQ breakfast at Tahunanui Beach in January. Nelson firefighters were kept

busy showing young people and mentors how to operate a fire hose and the

hose spray proved to be irresistible for some young people looking for an

opportunity to cool off in the hot summer sun.
