Galt Centre for Immigrants2A Design StudioSupervised by Adrian Blackwell
My proposed building is a home for immigrants and new citizens. It has two purposes: the first is to create a welcom-ing and accepting community for immi-grants of all nationalities and, by doing so, fulfill the second purpose, which is to become a source of cultural education for the white-majority city of Cambridge. The goal of this project is to create an institution that actively seeks to support new citizens.

Families from foreign countries flock to city centres like Toron-to and Vancouver because of connections they have to family and to friends of family and to friends of friends of family, all of whom have already established themselves in these metropolises and are able to provide a support system during a time of intense transitional stress. However, these
support systems come at a cost. Housing prices in such city cen-tres only continue to skyrocket, but new citizens seem to seek comfort and familiarity before they seek economical housing. My building proposal sits at this disparity between dwelling cost and rate of immigration in places such as Toronto and Cambridge.

The Galt Centre for Immigrants en-gages its residents and the citizens of Galt through the outdoor playground and pizza oven as well as the commu-nal dining connecting the two wings of upper floor residences. The dining halls provide views of the Grand Riv-er and encourage meaningful rela-tionships between the residents of the building.

St. Clair Library
With the growing infiltration of elec-tronic media in our lives, it is easy to see why people are pressured to “choose sides” when it comes to dig-ital and analog technology. Rather than devoting oneself entirely to ei-ther (and, as with all things, create op-position towards the other) one should see the two strands of information as bodies that can co-exist and perhaps blur together. Traditional forms of information should be preserved and valued while technological advance-ments be made inclusive. The St. Clair Library design seeks to create a non-binary dichotomy between these different spaces, and foster interdis-ciplinary social interactions between groups of people that may be able to learn through their differences.

Post-War Housing for SyriaCompetition Entry for MatterBetter In Collaboration with Joshua MacDonald and Johnathan Subendran
The civil war in the Syrian Arab Republic created the biggest ref-ugee crisis after the World War II. According to UNHCR, over 4 300 000 people have left the country and fled to Turkey, Jordan, Iraq, and Europe. While world leaders are looking for the international solution of the Syrian civil war and refugee crisis, many Syrians are looking forward to the opportunity to return to their homes once the war is over.
Living conditions in the current refugee camps and temporary buildings across Europe and oth-er countries are mostly inhuman, while the towns the refugees once called home are in ruins. While the housing scarcity crisis is the main problem in need of an architectural solution, a considerable degree of important must also be placed on creating comfortable and dignified homes that will remain sustainable for generations of occupants.

O.S.P. (Oriented Strand Playscape)2B Design StudioIn Collaboration with Kelsey Dawson, Genna Kalvaitis, Eric Oh, Amanda Reyes-Martin, Jeff So
O.S.P. (Oriented Strand Playscape) was a design-build project that oc-cupied an interstitial space on the perimeter of the School of Architec-ture building. The installation was conceived with the intention of cre-ating modular 2ft x 2ft x 2ft ‘blocks’ that would be able to stand alone as furniture or storage pieces after the eventual disassembly of the installa-tion, thus prolonging the project’s lifetime and lessening the environ-mental impact significantly.
As a fully assembled installation, the playscape facilitates the experi-ence of walking through a sculptur-ally articulated canal, and provides spaces for moments of play, climb-ing, crawling, sitting, and interac-tion with other people.

As stand-alone modular blocks, the OSP takes on four forms: the space frame, the fully enclosed cube, the slope, and the step. Each of these can facilitate various everyday pas-times such as sitting, reading, eat-ing, meeting with friends, and stor-age for books or plants.

Cushion for Nuit BlancheIn Collaboration with F_RMlabToronto, Ontario
CUSHION: An Interactive Media Womb is an installation set to be exhibited in Toronto Nuit Blanche 2016 beside the Bata Shoe Museum.
The contemporary city is a space of sensory overload. On the night of Nuit Blanche in particular, crowds emerge to roam amongst a cacopho-ny of stimulation: from imagery and noise, to movement and smell. Our project seeks to provide a cushioned ‘media womb’ where visitors can re-flect in isolation and comfort.
Enter a refuge fro the chaos - an al-leyway turned into a place of con-templation by otherworldly beings of plastic and air. These huddled volumes can respond to changes in light from your shadow, pres-sure from your touch, or the sound of your voice as you move between them.

The CUSHION installation will be comprised of twenty “sentient” cush-ion-like beings, each responding to touch or proximity through light, growth and shrinking, and colour. Make sure to come out to this year’s Nuit Blanche to see the installation in action!

work Experience: Drawing RoomWinter 2016 InternshipMelbourne, Australia
Drawing Room Architecture is a young architecture firm with a fo-cus on sustainability in small-scale builds.
As an architectural assistant, I worked closely with the head archtiect to assist in all things needed to design, document, pres-ent, procure and build residential and commercial architecture. I produced drawing sets and renders for a variety of projects including an extension on a house in the Macedon mountain ranges and in the suburb of Brunswick.

St David St - Existing and Proposed Ground Floor Plans
In the St David St project, I had a significant involvement in meet-ings with clients and builders, documentation of existing space, production of working drawings for the kitchen renovation and of exterior renders for client approval, and material selections. Although working simultaneously on an array of other projects at the office, through St David St I came to a better understanding of building relationships with clients as well as the way in which an architectural project comes to fruition.
