Any areas feel relaxed? 3. Pay attention to your breathing…the rise and fall of your abdomen. 4. As your breath becomes steadier/more rhythmic, say to yourself, “My breath feels calm and regular.” Repeat this phrase. 5. After a few minutes of repetition, let the phrase drop. Focus on the sensations of your breathing. 6. Scan your body. Still notice tension? Imagine that as you breathe in, the breath goes right to the tense area, relaxing it. Exhale all tension. Do this for each tense spot. 7. Consciously take a few deep breaths. Stretch your arms and legs. Many professions involve working with and /or responding to troubling or traumatic situations. Vicarious or secondary trauma is the emotional residue from exposure to these situations. This exposure can lead to stress or trauma reactions, re-stimulation of past personal trauma, numbness, job burnout, and other effects. This presentation will help par ticipants understand vicarious trauma and identify strategies to suppor t resilience and well-being.

Following this seminar, attendees will be able to:• Def ine vicarious or secondary trauma• Identify the aspects of your profession that are potentially traumatizing• Understand the effects of secondary trauma• Describe protective factors• Identify tips for surviving and thriving in a challenging role

MOBILE MAMMOGRAPHYThe Chesapeake Regional 3D Mobile Mammography Unit makes mammogram appointments fast and convenient for City and School employees and retirees. Don’t forget: you can earn 250 BEWell points by completing the BEWell Mammography Screening Incentive Form and attaching a separate screening documentation. The CBO Drop Box is located outside the entrance of Plaza Annex – it’s secure and available 24/7 for submission of documents. Documents submitted to the Drop Box will be retrieved and processed after Spring Break.

The Benef its Off ice and BEWell program observe Virginia Beach City Public Schools’ summer hours, generally occuring from mid-June until mid-August each year. During summer hours, our off ice is open from 7:00 a.m. – 5:30 p.m. Monday – Thursday and is closed on Fridays. At the time this publication was sent print, specif ic dates had not been announced. Refer to Benef its Off ice and BEWell sites for updates.
