Our newly appointed Director of Cricket Russell Keyt, has also devised a strategic plan to improve the quality of our training programs in order to ensure a long history of continued success.

The club is in a good financial position and we have a great platform to build on, adding some exciting new resources for all players, both junior and senior, over the next phase.

Some of our key projects, aims and initiatives underway for 2011 include:

•Increasing Junior family participation within the club

•Continuing to grow the Junior Cricket Program

•Continuing to grow the Milo In-2-Cricket program•Continuing to improve club infrastructure

•Upgrading qualifications and professional development of our coaches

•Set out player pathway programs to Senior Cricket

•Structured family social functions

•Junior development program / coaching development

•New Sponsorship plans and packages

We as a team are committed to continuing the solid foundations of management set at the club and hope to make our own special impact and contribution for the years ahead.

We welcome feedback at all times and would like any concerns brought to the committee as soon as possible, for an amicable resolution to be made, for the good of the children and volunteers of the club.

We all look forward to a fantastic 2011/12 at Bentleigh Cricket Club.

THE NEW RECRUITSBentleigh has set itself up to go one step closer in season 2011/2012 with the recruitment of some big names. Joining the Club this season are Paul Summerskill, Antonio Mullins and Dave Gelbart.

Summerskill is an 18 year old wicket keeper / batter from the UK who has been playing club cricket for Burwell Cricket Club, in which he has been playing 1st XI for the last 4 years. Out of club cricket, Paul plays Minor Counties first team for Cambridgshire where at the age of 16, he became the youngest player to represent them. He has played County age group for 7 years receiving four baggies for hitting as many hundreds. At 16 he played for Middlesex while in the academy, before leaving to join Northants where he played for a season.

Antonio Mullins is an opening bowler and handy batter who comes from South Africa. This is not the first time Mullins will be playing in the VTCA, having represented St Bernards in season 2008/2009 where as their club coach, he took 36 wickets and made 432 runs for the season, guiding them to a Senior A1 Premiership and promotion back into Senior Division. Mullins comes with an impressive coaching and playing resume and will be Assistant Coach to Chris Street.

Dave Gelbart comes to the Club from Maccabi Ajax, where for the last 15 years, he has been a stand out player. Last season was to be his last in the VTCA, having retired from the game, but an opportunity to play Senior Division and a chance at a flag enticed the fast bowler to go around again. Dave has caused many a Bentleigh batsman trouble at the crease and with him now on our side, he will only add strength to the already impressive 1st XI bowling line up. He also comes with an impressive training resume and will be assisting with the Clubs fitness program.

Players returning to the Club include Adam Ryan (as 1st XI Captain), Robert Borowski and Eli Hayes.

Bentleigh Launches Cricket AcademyAfter months of planning, Bentleigh Cricket Club has officially launched its Cricket Academy.

The Bentleigh Cricket Club Cricket Academy is a joint partnership between the Bentleigh Cricket Club and Woodards Bentleigh that seeks to provide a pathway for junior cricketers moving from junior to senior cricket.

This will be done by providing specialist coaching in the areas of Batting, Bowling, Fielding and Fitness, in order to better develop participants skills and their general understanding of the game.

One of the goals of the Academy will be to provide young cricketers with the tools that will enable them to progress through to the 1st XI at Bentleigh, and beyond.

The Academy will focus on encouraging, preparing and developing junior cricketers to pursue their goals in the sport, and to assist them in achieving at their highest level possible, be that at Bentleigh, Premier League, State or International level.

Players will be selected by the Cricket Department and are invited to take part in the Academy prior to the start of each season.

By providing junior players this opportunity, the Academy aims to retain young people in cricket and help them to maintain and improve their ability and skill level, affording them the opportunity to progress within the sport.

The Academy is proudly supported and sponsored by Woodards Bentleigh.

Glen Eira Council Community GrantBentleigh was awarded a grant in the 2011-2012 Glen Eira City Council Community Grants Program.

Council's community grant program assists not-for-profit, community based organisations to implement projects and activities which meet identified community priorities and which benefit Glen Eira ratepayers.

The aim of the program is to strengthen community connections; develop an accessible and inclusive community; encourage community initiatives that promote self-sufficiency and innovations; and help strengthen local participation in the planning and implementation of services.

The Club was awarded funding to assist with the purchase and installation of audio visual equipment in the social rooms at Bentleigh Reserve.  This equipment will be used  by members to make  presentations, speeches and addresses and will allow the club to become self-sufficient in hosting its own social functions, such as the junior presentation night, without the need to hire audio equipment.

Bentleigh Cricket Club acknowledges and thanks Glen Eira City Council for their continued and ongoing support of the Club.
