DESCRIPTION
Social media has gained notoriety over the years and can be an effective tool whether you are looking for a job, making a job change or find yourself unemployed. When used correctly, social media can help to increase the number of job opportunities you will have and allow you to network with individuals and perspective employers. Participants will learn how to create a killer LinkedIn profile and effectively use Twitter, YouTube, Facebook and Pinterest to network and find employment. About the Presenters: Angelique Simmons, Natasha Dass-Ford and Naomi House Mrs. Angelique Simmons is the Chief Librarian at the Throckmorton Library (military installation) in Fort Bragg, North Carolina. Mrs. Simmons has over ten years' experience as a librarian working in North Carolina, Maryland, Washington, D.C., Virginia and Germany. As a military spouse, Angelique has had to change jobs numerous time through-out the last ten years, so she has become somewhat of a "guru" when it comes to searching for jobs, navigating numerous social media outlets and from this experience she has learned many techniques that can help anyone when searching for a job. Many friends often call her the "career coordinator" because she has helped many over the last 10 years find jobs, rewrite their resumes and to SHINE during the application and interview process. Angelique obtained her Master of Library Science degree from North Carolina Central University and will obtain her Master of Business Administration from American Public University, December 2014. Ms. Natasha Dass-Ford, is a Youth Services Manager at the Cumberland County Public Library & Information Center in North Carolina, with over 11 years' experience in libraries. Natasha has extensive experience in researching and learning to navigate various social media sites in order to find information for job seekers. Natasha has also hosted many job fairs for those seeking employment and knows the right sources to search and where to send job seeekers. Natasha obtained her Master of Library Science degree from North Carolina Central University as a recipient of the IMLS Diversity Scholars Program. She has been awarded the Exceptional Employee Award twice during her years at the library because of her significant contributions towards children and teen programming. Ms. Dass-Ford is an active member of the American Library Association, currently serving as the New Leaders' Representative to the Library Leadership and Management Association (LLAMA) Board of Directors. Naomi House, MLIS, is the founder and publisher of the popular webzine and jobs list INALJ.com (I Need a Library Job).
