Dear West View Elementary Parents! It’s that time in this school year when the P.T.A. Nominating Committee must begin to plan for NEXT school year! Our P.T.A. sponsors a multitude of programs and each Committee requires a Parent Volunteer(s) to lead as a Chairperson, or Co-Chairperson. In turn, each Chairperson will then receive a list of Committee Volunteers to call upon for assistance. NEW THIS YEAR, to keep in compliance with new Pennsylvania State Laws, and thus newly established NH District policies, all of our P.T.A. Board and Chairpersons must complete the following by August 1 st for service during the 2015-2016 school year.: 1.) Packet includes a Volunteer/Chaperone Agreement, PTA Volunteer Application, Act 168 Disclosure Release, Act 126 On-line Training 2.) Cost: $10 ~ Website: http://epatch.state.pa.us/home.jsp 3.) Cost $27 ~ Website: https://www.pa.cogentid.com FOR YOUR INFORMATION: These Clearances are good for other Volunteer experiences, as long as you maintain your original copy. The District will honor your clearances for 3-years of active P.T.A. Service.     Our P.T.A.s success is founded on the great leadership our P.T.A. Chairpersons. A P.T.A.Membership is required, as well as a completed Volunteer Registration Packet and threeClearances. Simply check off the Committees you are interested in giving of your time andtalents. Then turn in your form by The Nominating Committee will contactyou with after collecting forms with confirmation of assignment. For more information onCommittee activities and needs, read through the descriptions listed in this packet.

  • Requires School-Day Availability Evenings/Work on Your Own Time

    P.T.A. Members that have served this school-year as Chairpersons are eligible to serve as aPTA Board Member next year. These offices include: President, Vice-President, Secretary, Treasurer &Parliamentarian. The officers serve in a big capacity, supporting and guiding Chairpersons through-out the schoolyear.

    Plan the details of an event to kick off our school year before classes starts with a familypicnic, that gives our students and staff the opportunity to meet some new faces before the year begins.

    Once in the Fall and again in the Spring, we host a Book Swap! Students can swap 5 gently readbooks from home for 5 new to them books from our collection of used books. Time is needed during the day tohelp set up the books for swapping, as well help students choose books etc.

    The P.T.A. is proud to offer the West View Dance Program for our students. If you have a tiny dancer in yourlife, this might be a great place for you to lend your time and service. This Chairperson acts as a liaison between theDance Teachers and the P.T.A.

    The North Hills Education Council meets once a month to discuss timely topics with regardsto education. We need volunteers willing to attend the meetings and report back to our P.T.A. Meetings.

    Our Communications committee oversees the West View Weekly E-Link newsletter, the WestView Monthly Calendar and the Facebook page. Their goal is to use these multiple platforms to keep you asinformed as possible about P.T.A. programs and happenings.

    We host a Family Fun Night in the Fall, Winter and Spring to provide an opportunity for fun forthe whole family. Three different Chairpersons are needed to plans events, communicate the details and overseeregistrations, and carry out the evenings activities.

    At the annual Open House night in February, our 4th or 5th (TBD) Parentshost a Concession and Bake Sale. Proceeds of the Sale go to their class 6th Grade special activities. Chairpersonscoordinate the efforts and volunteers.

    The P.T.A. hosts one major Fall Fundraiser that provides the budget for these listed committee projects,PLUS class Field Trips, school Assemblies, student Homework Folders and Assignment Books etc. Various smallerfundraisers also occur through-out the school year.

    In December, students will have the opportunity to visit our P.T.A. Holiday Shop. Students can shopfor up to 6 people, from a great variety and selection of low cost items. Nothing brings the kids more joy that to shopon their own for their family for the holidays. Chairpersons shop for inventory in coordination with the shoppingforms from students.

    In coordination with our Holiday Parties, students can send a special message gram, withattached treat, to their friends, staff, or siblings for 50-cents each. Chairpersons collects grams, shops for treats andworks with volunteers to put them together for distribution on party days.

    The P.T.A. also raises funds through multiple Incentive programs. (Box Tops, Store Cards, CampbellsSoup etc). Chairperson communicates the details of these programs, and coordinates the collection process for eachdifferent incentive.

    The Literacy Committee hosts two Scholastic Books Fairs during the school year. In addition, Literacy worksclosely with our Librarian, Miss Tumbas, to help host both the Authors Day assembly and our annual Library Nightevent.

    The large Bulletin Board just past the Front Office is for the PTA to decorate and communicate.Creative volunteers are needed to keep the board looking great and up-to-date!

  • Requires School-Day Availability Evenings/Work on Your Own Time

    Market Day is an on-going monthly fundraiser that allows you to order unique food/grocery items atgreat prices. Chairperson oversees the monthly pick-up process. Delivery takes place one Friday a month from 3:30-6:00pm.

    The P.T.A. likes to have at least one West View P.T.A. Member attend North Hills SchoolBoard Meetings and report back at our P.T.A. Meetings. Having multiple representatives looks good for West View,and creates flexibility when one person cant attend due to other commitments.

    The P.T.A. hosts a large Basket Raffle at the annual Open House. Eachclassroom donates a Basket, and the Chairperson coordinates the individual room basket coordinators and helps setup for Open House.

    The P.T.A. hosts two holiday parties during the school year - Halloween and Winter Holidays. PartyParent Chairpersons coordinate the Party Parent Volunteers, selecting them, communicating party requirements andthen registering them on Party day.

    P.T.A. Membership is required to be involved in ANY of these P.T.A. Sponsored events, TheMembership Chairperson will confirm your membership, and if needed your Clearances, before allowing youVolunteer in any way.

    The P.T.A. was proud to have a new playground installed in the back of theschool in the spring of 2013. Now, we need to move forward with phase 2 of the project - raising funds for a newFRONT playground! We need new ideas and lots of energy as we look install a larger system than in the front!

    Our school store is located in the Cafeteria and sells a variety of school supplies and novelty items.The Store is open Monday, Wednesday & Friday during the students Lunch Periods. Chairperson coordinates storevolunteers and maintains inventory.

    The Science Fair gives all students a chance to experiment with science and show what they havelearned! Chairperson provides packet, coordinates registration, recruits judges etc, organizes parent volunteers areneeded to help arrange display tables, greet judges, escort students and award prizes.

    Its important to teach our students the benefits of giving back! Our most popular project is thePenny Wars, but we are in need of a Chairperson to step up into this committee that comes with great hands-onideas for our students to serve our great West View community.

    This committee helps to coordinate providers for refreshments for our PTA Meetings, and wellas host two Staff Appreciation Luncheons during the school year. Chair plans theme and menu for luncheons andinvites teachers and staff.

    The PTA hosts 1-2 West View/North Hills Spirit Wear sales per school year. Chairperson would workwith distributor on apparel choices and logo designs, collect orders and distribute orders.

    Our P.T.A. provides a school-wide directory to ease your communication needs. Chairpersonwould collect information submitted, organize and log in the information for distributing.

    The Volunteer Coordinator takes all the Volunteer forms submitted in the fall and createsa database for each Committee Chairperson. If organizing paperwork and information is your strength, this might bea great project for you!

    West View Day is our year-end carnival celebration for the Students! A day filled with games, face-painting, karaoke, inflatables, snacks, prizes and more! Chairperson coordinates the activities and volunteers to runthem.

    Pictures need taken of interesting classroom activities, group pictures, school concerts and our P.T.A.sponsored events like field trips, assemblies, red-n-white days and more! This committee is all about capturing andpreserving great memories for our students as you put the Yearbook together cover to cover.
