Years ago, I had a good relationship with a bicycle dealer in the city where I lived, and from whom I made regular purchases. I’m not too enthusiastic about cold-weather cycling, but I wanted to stay in shape over the winter and so, in December I asked him about the prices on some indoor exercise bikes, which his store also sold.

“I’d advise you to wait”, he told me. “If you can wait until about the third week of January, I’ll have several used ones that will be available. Hardly used, and much cheaper.”

“Do you have any of those now?” I asked.

“Nope. But every year, people who buy new ones for their New Year’s resolutions get tired of them by about mid-January, and they sell them back to me. I’ll have some then.”

That story reminds me that February can be an important time of year, the way January is. If we can keep up with our new habits long enough to get used to them, we begin to see the positive effects they bring. Whether it’s self-improvement, relationship-related, or drawing closer to God and the church, don’t give up! Hang in there, and keep doing the thing you feel God is calling you to do. Galatians 6:9 reminds us, “Let us not become weary in

doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.”

LET’S GO TO IRELAND NEXT YEAR!Bartlesville First Church will be offering a trip to Ireland and Northern Ireland in Spring, 2017. See Dublin, Belfast, the rugged beauty of Inishowen, the Ring of Kerry, and all the legendary spots you’ve heard about such as the Blarney Stone, Cliffs of Moher, the Giant’s Causeway, and others. Stay in an Irish Castle, visit the Waterford Crystal factory, a traditional Irish Dairy farm, and experience a real Irish pub with traditional Irish music.

There are a few spots available, and the trip dates are April 24 - May 4, 2017. Cost (airfare included) is $3999 per person. Reserve your spot by calling Lisa Ralph at 918-337-3737.

Questions? Ask Lisa or Dr. Tully. We’ll even see and tour the historic church he pastored when he and Georgia lived there!

STOP HUNGER NOWStop Hunger Now gives food and life-saving aid to the world’s most vulnerable people, and works to end global hunger in our lifetime. Established in 1998, they have provided over 225 million meals in 74 countries.

They have engaged over 500,000 corporate, student, civic and faith-based volunteers in meal packaging. In just under two hours, a group of 40 to 50 volunteers can package 10,152 nutrient-rich meals for the undernourished globally. They also educate volunteers about hunger and inspire them to help end it.

We will be holding a STOP HUNGER NOW event on Sunday, Feb. 26, during Mission Sunday from 8 a.m. - 12 p.m.

DAUGHTERS OF LOT BREAKFAST The Daughters of Lot Breakfast is a creative, festive and beautiful fundraising event that raises money for the Samaritan Counseling and Growth Center's Daughters of Lot program. This years event will be held on Saturday, Feb. 4 at 9 a.m. at Adams Boulevard Church of Christ. The event includes a delightful breakfast served by area clergy and volunteers, a keynote speaker and fun door prizes. But what makes Daughters of Lot so unique and special are the beautiful tables individually decorated by local supporters who donate their time year after year. Each table is decorated to the decorator's taste. The table décor can follow the theme, "She wears her hopes like a crown", or you can choose your own theme.

This year, we're opening our doors at 9:00 a.m. so that our guests have the opportunity to walk around and look at the beautiful tables. Starbucks has graciously agreed to provide coffee for this pre-fundraiser event, which we're calling "Sip & See". Breakfast and the program will begin at 9:30 a.m. Plan to join us half an hour early to talk with the other guests and enjoy the lovely decorations.

Every 2 minutes, someone in the U.S. is assaulted. Abuse leaves emotional scars that can affect the victim's life for years to come, and many victims of assault cannot afford the treatment and counseling they need. Daughters of Lot is a subsidy program through Samaritan Counseling and Growth Center that ensures abuse victims will receive counseling regardless of their financial ability to pay. All proceeds from the Daughters of Lot fundraising event go to help with the cost of counseling for victims of abuse.

The breakfast fundraiser couldn't happen without the generosity of our table sponsors. For a donation of $250, you can reserve all eight seats at a table and receive sponsorship recognition at the event. After everyone has had the opportunity to sponsor a table, we will open up registration for individual seats as well.

You can help bring hope by attending the event, decorating a table, or donating online.

THE BIBLE AND ITS MESSAGEA famous preacher once said that “saying ‘the Bible says…’ is like saying, ‘The Library of Congress says…’. “ There’s so much in there, and some of it seems conflicting. Is there a way to figure out the main and major teachings of the Bible, and to learn which teachings are supposed to weigh the most? Dr. Kevin Tully will be tackling this subject in “The Bible and Its Message”.

Bring your Bible and come prepared to dig, ask, and learn!
