Barbara Park Biography:

Very famous author due to Junie B. series Only writes books – Denise Brunkus

illustrates her books Grew up in New Jersey and spent most

summers on Long Island Beach Went to University of Alabama where

planned to be history teacher

Now lives in Arizona with husband, has two grown sons also living in Arizona

Has a silly golden retriever named Maggie

Didn’t start writing books until she had her children

Wanted to write funny books for kids after son brought home Tales of a 4th Grade Nothing

Likes writing Junie B. books, but still considers writing a job, and challenges herself by writing older chapter books that take longer to write

Likes to take naps and eat frozen M&Ms

Says she was a lot like Junie B., who is based on Kid in the Red Jacket

Offered to make movie of Junie B. but Park said “no.”

First book wrote: Operation Dump the Chump, first published, Don’t Make Me Smile

Says Mick Hart Was Here is her favorite book (shows importance of wearing bike helmet but hard to write balancing seriousness and humor)
