    may

    more

    and

    more in knowledge

and dep th o f insight, so that

    you

    blameless

    until

    the d ay of

    Christ, filled

    with the

    fruit

    of righteousness

    that

    comes

    through Jesus Christto

    the

    glory and

    praise

    of

    God. Philippians 1:9-11

    The

    men

    in

thi s p ic tu re

    represent 10 churches, 10

    Bible

    studies,

10 different communities of th e world. Our goal fo r

    them and the churches and

    study

    groups is th e same

    as

    Paul s fo r th e

    Philippians.

    Abounding

    with love they

    will

    grow

    in

    knowledge and insight. They

    will be

    able to

    discern

t he ir own world through Chr is t s Eyes and Christ s Love.

    They will

choos e t he pure and

    blameless

    way, not because

    we have

    made

    them, but they have

    come

    to

    desire

    to

    make

th at c ho ic e.

    They will

    bear

    the

    fruits

    of

    righteousness

through the ir r elat ionship

    to

    Jesus Christ. God will

    be

    glorified and pra ised because

    of

    t he Church

    in Zaire.

    The

    goal

    of

    ACM/PBT

    in Zaire is to help

    the Church to mature.

    E

are simple. First you start with the scripture

    to

    read

    and

    then a

    question

    is

    asked

    about itwith a

    space available

    fo r

thei r wri tten answer. The

    next

    section answers the question immediately

    and then goes

    on It is

    slow

    in

    pace and

r ei te ra tes over

    and

    over the theme using

    th e

    questions and answers and

    also other

    appropriate passages.

    As

    they are working

th ro ugh e ach week there

    is a

    tape that goes

    along

    wi th it

    Each

    center

    has

    a hand crank

    cassette

    tape player. The ta pe

    reads the book

out loud to them so they can hear it and see it

Through this system those who desire

    it

    are

    able

    t o s tudy every

    book

    of the New

    Testament.

    For my

    part

    in

    the

    program

    besides

    purchasing

    I

am also the delivery man. Earlier

    I

    said

    the 10 week p rogr am t akes 5 mon th s. T he

    reason

    for

    this

    is the delivery

    problem.

    Ifly

    from

    Bukavu once

    a month with

    tapes

    to cover two

    weeks

    of

study. The men know what day

    Iwill

    be

    there from the

    last

    trip so

    they

    come

    in

    from

    the i r ten

    different

    co mmu n i t i es

    to

    meet

    with

    m e

    at Bafwasende . We

    discuss

    any problems

    from

    the last two weeks of

    s tudi es and

    they return

    those tapes

    to

    me.

    I

then pass out the new tapes

    and we look through the

    new material together.

    What

    1

    try to do

    is

    to give th e leaders

    of

    these 10

    different centers

    something

    to stretch

    their

    minds something

    that

    will help them to

    grow

    something

    I will

    In

    mind

    tends

    to fill in

    th e blanks

    about

    the

    returning

    to

    Antioch. Paul

    and

    Barnabas

    had set ou t

    from

    this church and they had

    some very

    deep ties

    to that

    area

    nd the people

    of that

    church. They

    had

traveled into parts of the world that might

    have been

    strange

    to them, new

    languages, cus toms,

    attitudes

    and

    maybe they

    had

    received

    a

    shock

    as to

    th e

    dif

    ferences they

    faced.

    They had worked hard

    for a

    they had used

    themselves and had

    been used

    had

    come

    home again

    to

    the place

    from

    which they

    had been

    sent.

    We

    long time

t hey had s tayed there. They became reacquainted to dear

friends and family members that they had not seen for a long

    time. They

    basked

    in

    the

love of those people and they began

    to replenish in

    themselves

all that had been given for

    the

advance of th e Gospel. I

    don t

    know if

    when they

    returned to

    Antioch they

    already

    had

    decided

    on

    th e

    second

    journey, but

    this

    furlough

    that they

    took prepared them spiritually, men

tally, and physically to go again and to give again for the

    spreading

    of

    th e

    Gospel.

A few months from this newsletter, we will be returning to

th e place where we were committed

    you

    We

    We

    are

    very grateful

    that

    God has

    provided

    for

    us a

    house

    for

    our furlough.

    He

    provided

    it

    thru

    two very

good f riends of ours, Chuck and

Hilde DeTombe of Rapids City Illinois. As

    fa r

    as we know

    of

    an

    automobile.

    With

    all

    the

    traveling

    that

    we

    will be doing

    this

    is

    one

    of

    these

    can t

    In our thinking it

    would

    not

    fit

into our finances to try to buy

    a

    car and then

    have to

    arrange

    its

    sale before leaving again.

    We

    would be

    very

interested in ren ting or leasing a

    car for

    our furlough. We

    are thinking about

    economy

    and tha t

    our

    children are growing

    and

    needing

    more space, along with what

    we

    will

    have to carry

    for

    our

    traveling.

    If

    you

    WHAT N E E D S T O BE

    C C O M P L IS H E D

    During

    our furlough we want

    and need to

    make contact with

    ail of

    you who

    have

    so

    dili

    gently kep t

    us

    in

your prayers and have kept us

    going

    financially. We

    want

    you

    to

    know

    what

    we have

    been abl e t o

    accomplish, our problems

and successes, and wha t we plan

    to

    do with the

    future. We would like

    to

    ti e ourselves

    to

    you

    even

    more

    tightly before we return to

    th e

    field

    again.

    One

    of the things tha t

    became

    evident to us

    quite

    early

was tha t we came t o Zai re w ithout

    enough

    funds.

    During ourfurlough

    we

    will

    have

    to

    correct

t hi s s it ua ti on . We will

    be

    adding

some additional expenses, because when we

re tu rn Rache l will

    be going

    off to bo arding

    school. We

    know

    that

    all of

    you, who

    have

    supported

    us

    so

    faithfully,

    have other

    commitments and

    responsibilities

    and

    we

    underst and concern ing

    the

    financial

    situation

    in

    America. So

    in bringing

    our finances up

    to

    where

    they

    should be

    we will

    have to

    move

    out

to other churches and individuals, to find the

    additional

    support

    we need.

    Would

    you

    be

    willing

    to

    help

    us

    in

    this?

    What

    about o th er

    a re a o r

    other individuals that

    you

know that might be in te re sted in the

    ministry

    of

    ACM/PBT here in Zaire? You

    have

    done so

    much to

    help

    us to

    this

    point

    and

    we ask

that you wou ld just go on

    as

    before.

    We d like

    to

    the

coming to Zaire, we have s pent about 900 a

    and

    personal

    100

    a

    month to

    provide

    the

    for

    Rachel

to and from school. Tha t mon ey will

    allow

    four t imes a yea r. A lso

    after having

    to

    take Dawn

    to Nairobi

    fo r

    the

    doctor, we are

    adding

    45 a

    month for an

    emergency

    medical flight fund.

    Rachel s tuition

    will

    be

    funds for

    t axes o r

    social security

    or

    for th e flight

    home, which was

    a

    big

    mistake.

    We

    estimate

that for taxes and social security we will need

    125 a month and for

    th e

    flight we will

    need

    to

    put aside 150

    over

    the

    next three-year

    term.

    These are just some

    of

    th e finances

    that

    we

    will

    have

    to rai se

    before returning.

    n our estimation

    ou r support should

    be 1500 a

    month for salary

    and

    2500

    a

    month fo r

    work funds .

    We would

    appreciate

    your praying

    for this

    on

    our

    behalf

    pay

    our

    back

security and funds for our return flight to Zaire

    We

would also like to look into the possibility of

    bringing

    s o m e

    of

You might be asking yourself if one year is

    enough

    to take care of

    these

    financial

    needs

    alone. When

    consider them

    all

    together,

    as k

    th e same question. But

    there

    are many

    things

    in

    this life that are

    overwhelming

    in

    themselves

    and

    we always must

    fall back on the

    truth

    that

God is able to do exceedingly and

    abundantly

    more

    than

    we

    can
