HEAD LICE

We ask that all families continue to be vigilant in regularly checking your child’s hair for nits and that parents please advise your child’s teacher should any nits or eggs be found in your child’s hair.

Unless everyone regularly checks and provides treatment, the cycle will just continue. Thank you all for your support.

people at Canteen.

Grovedale Primary School has formed a team for Run Geelong and you’re invited to join! We have the chance to earn our school up to $1000 worth of new sporting equipment vouchers! The more students, friends and families who join your team, the greater the value! It’s easy! All you have to do is go to http://runaustralia.com.au/ and register for RUNGEELONG. When you sign in, click on register as a team/school and type in Grovedale Primary School.

ENABLING OUR CHILDREN TO ENJOY SAFE AND HEALTHY TRAVEL TO AND FROM SCHOOL

For parents /carers with children up to 8 years of age. Teachers also welcome! Presenter:

Early Learning Association Australia Just three decades ago, 70 per cent of children walked or rode to school – now only 30 per cent do... All parents want their children to arrive at school safely and on time and most believe the best way is to drive them right to the school gate. This however can cause traffic and parking congestion outside school gates and create hazards for children as they hop in and out of cars or walk and ride to school. We invite you to come along and hear about:

the many benefits of using active travel to get to and from school.

why it is so important for young children to experience active travel.

how you can help develop your children’s essential road safety skills, supporting safe independent active travel when they are older.

WALK TO SCHOOL THIS OCTOBER

Grovedale Primary School is excited to be taking part in VicHealth’s Walk to School from 6th -31st

October.

Walk to School encourages primary school students to walk to and from school every day in Octo-

ber to highlight the ways walking improves children’s health and wellbeing. Walking to school is a

great way to help kids achieve the recommended 60 minutes of physical activity each day.

We are encouraging families and students to walk to and from school as often as possible during

October to help students learn healthy habits for life. Teachers will use classroom calendars to record each time students

walk to and from school. VicHealth offers some great prizes to schools with high participation, and runs fun walking themed

competitions for students throughout October.

We’ll be providing parents with an ‘Information sheet for parents and guardians’ with all the information you’ll need about

Walk to School. You can also visit the Walk to School website for more information: www.walktoschool.vic.gov.au

There are lots of ways families can get involved. You might like to walk with your child to and from school and enjoy the

chance to talk, help your child learn road safety skills, and get to know the local neighbourhood together.

arrange for your child to walk with other families or friends, giving them time to socialise and share their journey.

drive part of the way to school and walk the rest, particularly if you live a long way from school, or have limited time.

mix it up – if your child enjoys riding their bike or scooter, that’s great too!

WIN $150 Rebel Sport Gift Card

Grovedale Primary School is excited to be taking part in VicHealth’s Walk to School from 5th – 30th October!

One lucky student will win a $150 Rebel Sport Gift Card!

To be in with a chance, simply take a photo of your walk

to school and write a small paragraph explaining what

you liked about your walk to school, or what you saw.

Please submit your photo and words to the office by 30th

October. Enter this photo into the Twilight Fair photog-raphy competition well. Twice the chance to win a

prize!!

Extend OSHC at Grovedale Primary School We have had another fun-filled week full of exciting activities. The children were excited to share about the time spent at Geelong show. Instead of creating an interest tree, the children were more interested in doing straw weaving to make bands and book marks. They were busy weaving for hours and created colourful bands to take home! In Tuesday’s Persistence Chal-lenge the children were asked to make the tallest tower with 10 straws, 10 sheets of newspaper and 1 metre long sticky tape. The children, in pairs, persisted well to make it as tall as possible using their team skills. We learnt that winning and losing is secondary, trying to do is a success. I hope everyone enjoyed Geelong Cup Day. Our science experiment was not successful so we decided to have a Kid’s Choice Day where a few decided to play cubbies, a few wanted to do painting and straw weaving. We all know our traffic rules and enjoyed playing Red Light Green Light. This game assisted children to use their listen-ing skills along with following the instructions and as always children were super smart to perform both skills at once. Also, we are happy for any donations like recycling or arts/craft materials. A quick reminder, it is Term 4, so please ensure to pack hats for your child/children. Thank you!!! Priya Our Extend Superstar is… Seth Plummer for demonstrating a respect towards others whilst sharing time. Next week’s activities: Monday 2 November-CD Disk Weaving Tuesday 3 November-Hula Hoop Game Wednesday 4 November-Stick Art Thursday 5 November-Build a City Friday 6 November-Smart Dance PARENT PORTAL: extend.com.au
