Fall Issue ~ October 2016Fall Issue ~ October 2016Fall Issue ~ October 2016Fall Issue ~ October 2016

Dear DaySpring Emmaus Community:

Not sure where to begin in regards to my journey in this Community. I was a pilgrim on

Walk #112, worked on the Agape Team on Walk #114 and began serving on the Board the

following summer. To think I actually called my sponsor 3 days before my walk and told her

I would not be attending. Guess God had other plans for me on this journey. I have been

blessed beyond measure since my Emmaus Walk and although I never in my wildest dreams

thought I would be in this position, I know I serve a mighty God who does all things through

His wisdom and timing.

As Community Lay Director, I have come to feel God has called me to be a servant for this

community more than a leader. I feel true leadership is servanthood as described in Mat-

thew 20:26-28 “Whoever wants to be a leader among you must be your servant, and who-

ever wants to be first among you must become your slave. For even the Son of Man came

not to be served but to serve others and to give his life as a ransom for many. My heart is to

serve this community and the pilgrims.

I am excited to serve along our newest Board members Bobby Barr, Sarah Lentz, Kevin

McDaniel, Jeff Minton, Kim Mitchell and our new Spiritual Director David Bailey. I am also

excited to announce that Joan Peyton has agreed to become our Registrar. I know this

Community will be well served by all our new and existing Board members. I am grateful

for the service of those Board members who finished their terms Wiese Carlisle, Stacy Kamp-

schaefer, Dave Riley, Tonye Rutherford, Mike Scroggins, Tess Brunmeier and our

outgoing CLD Frank Heinz. I am humbled by your dedication to this Community.

The Fall walks are right around the corner. Walk #129 led by Donnie Peacher is October

13-16th

and Walk #130 led by Stacy Kampschaefer is October 20-23rd

. Please visit our

website www.dayspringemmaus.org to sign up to serve a meal or pray for these pilgrims.

Follow-up for the upcoming walks is November 5th

at Georgetown Christian Church. Let

us pray for the leaders, teams and especially for the pilgrims that the Holy Spirit would fall

upon every area of these walks. Also, please pray for the families of those involved in these

walks. It seems Satan wants to attack when he feels God is getting ready to do a great work.

In order to effectively plan for the upcoming walks, we have implemented a cut-off date for

pilgrim applications. October 4th

is the cut-off date for pilgrim applications for the fall

walks. Please be in prayer about sponsoring a pilgrim and make sure you have completed

sponsorship training. Contact Jo Norman @ [email protected] if you need informa-

tion about sponsorship training.

Please be reminded that Candlelight location for all upcoming walks have been moved to

Lincoln Hills Christian Church in Corydon, IN at 7:30 pm. We will be sending blast emails

and Facebook posts to advise of this location switch. Please help spread the word about this

change for our Community.

Finally, I want to thank everyone in this Community for their dedication in serving. The

agape that is given by your acts of discipleship encourages me to serve and love. I am al-

ways in awe of the love that is shown to the pilgrims.

Hello DaySpring Community, My Brothers and Sisters in Christ, It is a privilege to serve as your Community Spiritual Direc-tor for the next two years if God is willing. My wife, Diana and I have been blessed to be a part of the Day-Spring Community since we attended walks (3 & 4) in May 1992. In my humble opinion, the Emmaus Walk has been a very powerful vehicle in bringing together the One Body of Christ to exalt “the name above every name, JESUS”. I would like to encourage everyone who has attended a Walk to Emmaus to stay connected with the community. If you have been inactive, please reconnect with us; attend a Gathering, candlelight, sponsor a pilgrim, serve on an Emmaus, REC or Chrysalis team. Yes, Emmaus is not your church, but it has served to bring many thousands of Christians together to worship and serve Jesus. In these days in which we live, the Church, the Body of Christ, needs to stand up and reach out to all men and women. To say, ‘we need the Lord Jesus’ is a Biblical truth. Romans 3:23, “for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God”. We are all a bunch of ‘rotten tators’, but with Christ Jesus in our lives, God, our Heavenly Father, sees us as one of his own. Thank you, Jesus. Psalm 95: 7-8 “Today, if you hear his voice, do not harden your hearts…” People need the Lord. Again, God has blessed me by opening the door for me to attend and serve on Emmaus Walks. Through the Emmaus Walk, I have met and made friends with so many of you who love and serve Jesus. May we continue to exalt and glorify Jesus and His Church and our communities, state and nation. In God We Trust! David Bailey

What is a Reunion Group? The Emmaus group reunion is a small accountability group of two to 12 persons who have usually participated in the three-day Walk to Emmaus and who want to continue their pursuit of a life lived wholly in the grace of God. These small follow-up groups help pilgrims translate the message conveyed

on the Walk to Emmaus weekend into a daily walk with Christ. With the regular support of a few faithful friends, the gift of God's love in Jesus Christ becomes a lifestyle of Christian discipleship through the threefold discipline of piety, study, and action. Group reunions meet at regular times, usually weekly for an hour. The meeting

consists of persons' sharing the stories of their walk with Christ during the past week. Members listen to one another, celebrate the grace of God in each person's life, and reinforce each one's core commitment to living in union with Christ in all facets of daily life. Members express that reinforcement through gentle accountability,

encouragement, and support of one's stated discipline and plans. Excerpted from The Group Reunion by Stephen D. Bryant. Copyright © 1995 by The Upper Room
